Biting my bottom lip, I peer across the conference room at Nolan who is talking with one of the new workers from the Project and Proposal Department. He’s working dutifully while I’m over here thinking about last night.
He hasn’t said anything today about last night, but it’s all I can think about. He was supposed to be on his blind date, but he’d shown up at my apartment without my permission and told me he didn’t want to end our relationship.
Like other nights we’ve spent together, he completely worshipped me, making me feel like the only woman in the world. Then, when I woke up to find him gone, a crack formed in my already bruised heart.
