Chapter 9 - A Dedicated Supervisor

Previously: On the side table rested my gun peacefully, along with a piece of paper attached to it. Running towards it, I picked it up immediately and checked the magazine. It was indeed full so I moved on to the next thing. The note. First of all, who even does that any more? I mean, they could have just come up to me. I wasn't in a mood to kill someone today. Rolling my eyes, I took the note and read it. "I can help you stop the wedding. Tomorrow, outside the ammunition hall at 12." The note said. As much as I hate to accept it but this offer seemed worth everything right now. ----------------------------------- "Miss Bentley!" The note slipped from my hand and fell when a familiar and newly suspicious woman called out. Can. She. Stop. Sneaking. Up. On. Me. I turned around ever so slowly, all the while swallowing hard to suppress my anger. "What?" I snapped at her and she ogled me as if I had grown thorns. "I don't have all day, make it fast." I snapped again and only then she came back to the topic. Katalina had brought Lisa with her and now I was getting why. Firstly, Lisa was easy to threaten and that made her loyal. Secondly, she was a pain in the ass because of the countless time she had spoiled my detective moments. "We need your whole day, Miss." she corrected me. I narrowed my eyes at her, momentarily then scoffed. "Why? Am I getting married today?" Just imagine how bad it would be. I almost wanted to vomit at the thought, what could be worst than that for which anyone here could need my whole day? This whole drama in my life was neglecting me from work but either way, I would have to face that dickface Crassus. Home or work, he was everywhere. "Unfortunately not but we are going your wedding dress shopping today," she exclaimed with an enthusiasm that grossed the hell out of me. Wedding dress shopping? You have got to be kidding me. Besides, doesn't she have something to deliver to Victoria Ardolf? Poor soul, I'd love to share some duties of hers and deliver the papers directly to Victoria Ardolf. I opened my mouth then closed it back. No use protesting especially when they weren't going to back off. "Tell Katalina, that-" I made a dramatic pause then plastered the biggest of grins on my face. "I can't wait." Lisa was more than just taken aback. She went on doing her weird ogling thing but soon somehow swallowed my words and went away. One of my profound strategies, when the enemy or the opposing party could not seem to make amends then you must become selfish and a liar of course. Soon after Lisa, I too marched out of my room locking the door behind and tucking the gun inside its place which was the holder on my thigh. Time to have some fun. The servants seemed unbothered by my presence so I guessed that I wasn't on a watch out. I would let it be known, that I would rather attempt suicide from the tallest building on earth than go for wedding dress shopping. I still wasn't completely over the fact that they engaged let alone accept that I had to shop for a dress now. Avoiding suspicious glances and my father's office, I swiftly made it outside. Once outside, I had an obstacle to deal with before Lisa could come looking for me. How to get out of here? The guards were strictly instructed to not let me out, however, half of them right now seemed too occupied with selecting their new weapons out of the fresh crates arrived from the Ardolf's. At one corner, a group of newly trained guards were aligned under the scorching sun. At the other corner were the guards doing their job and the latter seemed more impossible. I need to get out of this hell hole or else they'll drag me to another. Somehow, my knight in shining armour walked right in front of me in the face of, "Elliot!" I exclaimed with a little more excitement than usual. Don't blame me, I have to get through this. "Miss Bentley, I wasn't expecting you here." said my saviour Elliot. Seems like he's still unaware of why I am here or my father hadn't told him about my wedding or anything at all. I wasted no time is grasping the chance, "then it's good I found you." Elliot was the right hand of my father who handled everything here on base. He was one of the few men that I found bearable in the mafia world and half of the things I learnt were from him. He was in his mid-thirties and had been working as my father's right hand for a few years now. The last right-hand man was fired after he had 'betrayed' father which I still didn't believe so. Katalina had a lot to do with it, she had fired almost all those people who once favoured Mom. I was awaiting the day when the control of the Bentley's would fall under my hand, then Katalina could spend her time counting the days she had left in this mansion. "I have things to take care of, I am sure we'll meet again and I'd love to talk with you someday," he said politely. "If only I could lend a hand or two?" I asked before he could turn and walk away. I had a plan and if that didn't work then I would have no way out of here. I quickly took a good look at the aligned trainee and then at Elliot who seemed to be worried about them, because of the way he kept glancing at them. "I will lead them," I said abruptly. He knitted his brows together, "I didn't-" "You can return the favour later, I'll take them for now." I patted his shoulder as a future boss would. Damn, it already feels so good, stealing people's tasks whenever it seems fun. His confusion resolved into realization then gratitude, "Thank you, Miss Bentley! Those are too young and immature to train, require more time than usual." He sighed in relief. Don't worry they won't ever find more of a dedicated supervisor than me for their training. Besides, I am sure Theodore Ardolf would be awaiting these cute little soon to be guards. I wonder how he would train them as a big, brooding, rude and handsome- Rude Trainor? yeah, that's right. I said nothing about him being handsome or hot or- Shut up already! - I scolded myself. "Just inform the guards about our departure to the Ardolf's state, on your way." I smiled even more and he nodded eagerly before leaving. Looks like, it's time to get out of here and change my fate from a horrible shopping session to a first-time visit at Ardolf's state.
