Chapter 8 - The Note

Previously: I gulped in defeat and for the first time felt hurt by him, by the father who I used to adore and admire. "I don't even recognize you anymore." I gritted out before snapping my head away from him. There might have been a tinge of hurt in his eyes which he quickly masked, before turning away. "Let's begin." he announced and a while later, I found myself defeated for the first time as Raphael put a ring to my finger. The only good thing was that he didn't try anything like last time but I was too enraged to notice that for long. This isn't the end, at least not until the wedding day. I can still win. - I kept telling myself through the rest of the evening. -------------------------------------------------------- "I swear, I didn't take him up to be that much of an asshole," I muttered to Beatrix who had just finished telling me the strings Raphael pulled last night to get the engagement done before I was called for it. She sighed, sitting down beside me. "I think I am ready to have him as my first kill." she put a sympathetic hand on my shoulder. Yeah, that's my sister wasting her first kill on an asshole. I narrowed my eyes on her, "Wait you serious?" I asked, to which she nodded. I chuckled and pushed her off me, "Shut up, Trix." She immediately scowled at me because of her childhood nickname. Let's just say, she hates it. However, the air in the room shifted when I lifted my hand and took the ring off. I speculated the ring in the light then curled my lips in a manner of appreciation. The white diamond in the centre was huge and covered most of the ring, while the rest of the ring was plain. Yet, it was too big and too much for me. "However, this part of this shitty situation is still the best. Damn, he did something for you." Beatrix spoke with caution, afraid of my reaction to her appreciating Raphael, even if tauntingly. I shot her a glare. "If only you knew that I kicked his balls last night because he almost tried to rape me." I put a smile on my face, watching Beatrix's eyes go wide. "Oh and also held a gun to his face. What a night it was!" A satisfactory smile didn't leave my face but Beatrix's sure did and she seemed ready to burst into laughter. And she sure did, in the next second. It only hit me then and the smile from my face wiped off. My gun... I ran a hand over the place where my gun was usually placed at only to find it empty. Scenes from last night flashed through my head when I had dropped my gun into the pool. "f**k!" I cursed out. Beatrix landed me a questioned look which I waved off with a movement of my hand, "I've something to take care of." I said before striding out of the bedroom. My head was pounding since the morning and having so many things to deal with, just added to the effect. Along with several dealings to take care of, I had a forced marriage to stop. Assumptions and predictions aside, I had no idea how to do it. My walk down the stairs was shortly paused when a pair of muffled voices hit my ears. I c****d my head to the side, eyes narrowing at the suspicion. The suspicion was mere because of the fact, that it came from behind one of the rooms that was barely opened for anyone. With silent steps, I made it to the door. Attaching my ears close to the door I listened carefully. "Keep it low, nobody should know." Katalina's voice could easily be recognized and now I was more than just curious. What is she up to? Who is she talking to? There was shuffling at the other end. "But what if I can't find Miss Ardolf?" Lisa"s voice came. My senses kicked in at the mention of the 'Miss Ardolf'. I edged a little closer towards the door, in an attempt to get a view of the room. "She'll be awaiting you. Remember, you have to deliver it only to her or else you know the consequences." Katalina warned Lisa and by the tone of the conversation, I could guess that it was coming to an end. "No-I'll deliver it straight to her Mrs Bentley." Lisa's panicked voice could be heard and I almost understood why this poor woman used to fear Katalina. She was threatening to get the things done but most importantly, what was she taking to deliver to Miss Ardolf? Quickly hiding behind a pillar, I watched Lisa scramble off to the servant quarter. Katalina followed her shortly after making sure no one was in sight, she locked the door to the room and walked away. This is interesting, why do I always find this woman doing something suspicious. Oh dear stepmother, what are you up to? Taking my phone out of my pocket, I typed a message. "Victoria Ardolf. Need a file on her, ASAP." then pressed send. The message would be delivered to Colton, my assistant which I had appointed personally after moving out of this mansion 2 months ago. If only I had known that the worst things awaited me. However, Victoria Ardolf was the sister of the tall, handsome and hot- WAIT, no. In conclusion, she was one of the Ardolfs siblings along with Theodore Ardolf and twin brothers. That was the only information I had on her. Although, I had heard quite a few things about her especially her fighting skills. Shaking the thought out of my head, I got back to my room only to find it empty. During the whole ordeal of investigating suspicious acts of Katalina, I had almost forgotten about the gun. Well, not almost but completely. I paused mid thoughts when my eyes landed on something. On the side table rested my gun peacefully, along with a piece of paper attached to it. Running towards it, I picked it up immediately and checked the magazine. It was indeed full so I moved on to the next thing. The note. First of all, who even does that any more? I mean, they could have just come up to me. I wasn't in a mood to kill someone today. Rolling my eyes, I took the note and read it. "I can help you stop the wedding. Tomorrow, outside the ammunition hall at 12." The note said. As much as I hate to accept it but this offer seemed worth everything right now.
