Gee was toying with his phone as he patiently waited. He had to get to the bottom of the freak accident. It took a lot to convince them to meet up with him.
It seemed they were perturbed by what happened to Naledi, her accident shook them to the core, as a result they refused any form of payment that was promised to them.
They wanted nothing to do with Gee.
“To hell with them, if they think they can easily walk out the mess they created” Gee had cussed as he thought of their reluctance to meet up with him.
He had to think quickly so as to lure them to a meeting. He knew the only way was to dangle a huge sum of money as payment.
Just as he thought, they fell for the bait.
He was sitting in his black SUV facing the small path that was leading to the park entrance.
His dark sunglasses was enough to shade him from anyone who might happen to pass by lest they make out his face.
He was not bothered the least about the vehicle being spotted since he had changed the number plate and had put the fake one.
The meeting point was strategically chosen. It was an area deprived of surveillance cameras. The city was installed with cameras which had been well placed to capture every angle of the environment and he knew exactly where the cameras were placed.
The city was his playground, he knew every aspect of it like the palm of his hand.
He checked his phone for the fifth time.
He was getting incensed. If they thought of abandoning their meeting, he would hunt them down and once he caught up with them, he would show no mercy.
They might however stand a chance if they cooperated.
A buzz of his phone interrupted his thoughts.
With an impatient glance at the screen he immediately recognized the number.
He had furnished them with a cell phone which had an unregistered number a day prior to the dinner. That was their mode of communication.
After the incident at the dinner party, Gee was pleased and convinced of his decision to provide them with the mobile phone.
There was even more reason to cut off any association with them and to ensure that there would be no trace that linked him to the women.
The matter at hand had to be contained and they were the only people who knew the truth, so it meant that Gee had to handle the issue himself.
“It is about time! What took you so long? I do not like to be kept waiting!” he barked at the phone.
“We are by the park entrance,” came the curt reply.
“Walk away from the entrance and follow the path to your right, it leads eastwards to a small bridge, you will find a black SUV parked under a Morula tree immediately after the bridge.” Satisfied with his plan he waited.
He scanned the horizon for any glimpse of them and true to their words, he spotted two women clad in fancy outfits as if they were going on a dinner date.
If only they knew what was in store for them, he shook his head in disdain.
He immediately flickered his lights to catch their attention and fortunately they spotted him instantly.
“Get in!” he instructed them.
At first they were reluctant.
“I will not ask again,” he warned and they scurried into the vehicle.
“You caused a major upset last night,” he paused and turned in his seat to face them, “I want full details”.
He sat petulantly listening to their narration of the event.
“Are you sure you did not touch her or had any sort of altercation with her?” he probed.
“We swear, all we did was follow the plan. After you texted us that she was in the ladies bathrooms we started gossiping in the cubicle.”
“We made our voices loud to ensure that we will be heard with the constant mention of his name…” another explained nervously.
The way he was staring at them, was burning right through the body, digging into their souls.
If there was anything Gee was good at, it was to decipher body language. In his line of work, it was his business to master and decode it.
Their verbal statements were often interrupted by random and unexpected questions from Gee to check consistency and if their story corroborated.
There were no pauses or fidgeting and unnecessary repeats as they answered him.
He was watching them closely, paying attention to their eyes, the way they blinked and how many times, whether rapid or how long they closed them as well as the direction they looked.
From their non-verbal cues and body language, there was no suggestion that they were fabricating the story and he was certain they were not lying.
There was only one thing left for him to do to eliminate any evidence that linked him to them.
He stretched out his hand and demanded the cell phone.
He took out the sim card and crushed the mobile phone with his bare hands, taking care to further dismantle the broken pieces, one by one.
That was the time when they realized how much of trouble they were in.
They cursed the day they met him and even more, they wanted nothing to do with the handsome reward he promised them and would not bother accepting it.
What they were going through was not what they bargained for, it seemed they had been used and were taking the fall for it even though they had no part in her accident.
They wanted out.
Just when they were hoping he would let them go, he reached out and pulled a gun from the glove compartment in the vehicle.
As much as he felt they were being truthful, he had to ensure that they would not resurface to implicate him in Kay’s girlfriend’s accident.
Just the mere thought of Kay having a girlfriend brought anger and bitterness.
Although she got hurt in the process, he would do anything necessary to ensure that no one came between himself and Kay.
He knew and experienced no other love and life other than Kay and his world. He would be damned to allow anyone to take all that from him.
When he turned back to face them with a gun in his hand, they froze and were rooted to their seats.
His look was full of loathing and bile.
