Two women sat facing each other in the traditional-style sitting room, engrossed in their conversation. The TV played a movie in the background, but it seemed to hold no interest for them. "I'm so glad you finally made up your mind to come back to New York," said a beautiful woman, dressed in a top and short nightwear. She had an oval-shaped face with high cheekbones, a small straight nose, large almond-shaped eyes with long thick eyelashes, full pouty lips, and clear, smooth white skin. Her hair was black, long, and lustrous with gentle waves. "Yes, I just have to, Ella," said the other lady, dressed in a fitted black gown with a sad expression on her face. She had long curly ombre hair, sparkling green eyes, and rosy full lips. She had a curvaceous figure with long legs and a slim waist. "For Piers, I'll do anything for him," she added, glancing down at the three-year-old boy who was fast asleep on her chest as she combed through his messy brown tousled hair with her fingers. "It's been four years now, Evelyn. He deserves to know his father," said Ella Johnson as she heaved a heavy sigh. "And you can only find his father by living in New York," she added, walking up to Evelyn and sitting beside her. "Yes, I know. That's why I have made the big decision of starting a new life in New York, finding the man who got me pregnant and left me alone to bring up the baby," Evelyn George said, tears building up in her eyes. She looked up at her friend and added, "It hasn't been easy, Ella. I've gone through a lot in these past few years." By now, the tears she had been trying to hold back started to drop down her cheeks. "You left him alone, unwilling to listen to him, and your reaction led to this. You didn't know you would end up getting pregnant. "If only you had known, you would have gotten to know more about that stranger three years ago," said Ella with a heavy sigh. "But I'm proud of you for not aborting the pregnancy. How would I get to be an aunt to this cute pumpkin potato if you had?" she added, gently grazing Piers' cheeks with a smile on her lips. "I'm glad I didn't either. Piers is the only treasure I have in this whole world now. Whenever I want to give up, I look at my little boy and become strong again. He is the best gift heaven has ever given me, and whenever I'm not able to give him the best, it makes my heart ache a lot," Evelyn said, tears rolling down her cheeks as she wiped them away. "It's okay, sweetheart. You wouldn't want to wake little Piers up with the tears," said Ella, gently wiping Evelyn tears away. "Here, I'll go lay him down on the bed," she added, as she stretched her hands forward taking little Piers from Evelyn's arms and walking into the inner room. As soon as Ella was out of sight with Piers, Evelyn let out a heavy sigh. Ella had been urging her to move in since she found out about the pregnancy, and it took three years for her to finally agree. She had been raising her son alone since his birth. It's not that he doesn't have a father, but she can't bring herself to tell Piers' the truth about his conception and the absence of his father.The little boy had been asking Evelyn about his father, but she would only tell him that she would meet him soon, even though she didn't know where he lived or how to find him. If only her ex-boyfriend hadn't broken up with her that night, if only she hadn't decided to leave Canada and come to New York. If only she hadn't met the stranger at the club, gotten drunk, and had a one-night stand, which resulted in Piers' pregnancy.She could still vividly recall the facial features of her son's father and the feeling of waking up next to him, naked. She blamed herself for the misfortune, but found solace in her son, who was now her world. Determined to find his father, she was willing to do whatever it took. Despite not having his contact information or knowing his whereabouts, she was certain he lived in New York. Buzz* The buzzing sound of her phone brought Evelyn back from her whirlpool of thoughts to reality, and she glanced at the name on the screen. "Damn! Haven't I told this jerk to stop calling me?" Evelyn yelled at the name on her phone screen. "Told who to stop calling you?" asked Ella as she walked over to Evelyn with two glasses of juice in her hand. She settled down beside her and handed over a glass of cold juice. "Thank you, Ella. You're such a darling," Evelyn said as she collected the juice and took a sip before placing it on the table in front of her. "It's Harry. He's not going to leave me alone in peace," she said with a heavy sigh. "You still have his contact? What the heck?" Ella exclaimed, her face filled with shock as she glared at Evelyn. "Why do you still have his contact?" "He wants me to come back to him. He thinks Piers is his son.I'm fed up for real. He had once gone to Piers school to pick him up, telling the teacher that he is Piers' father," Evelyn revealed, further shocking Ella with the news, as she bit her fingernails desperately.That's why I finally agreed to move in here with you, to stay far away from Harry. I don't want Piers to continue seeing him and creating a strong bond between themselves. "Exactly! Harry is a jerk, and trust me, he'll have a negative impact on Piers if they keep seeing each other. The best thing to do is to live here, away from him and all the drama in Canada," said Ella with a serious tone and a determined look in her eyes. Ping! The two ladies conversation was cut short as Evelyn glanced at her phone and saw a message from an unknown number.
