ALWAYS YOURS NOVA'S WIDE EYES DRANK IN the words like they were an oasis in a desert she'd been wandering in way too long. Nova Hart, To be honest, I never knew yellow irises existed. I always thought an iris was the flower with purple petals and a yellow centre. But then I saw you wear one in your hair during the beach party last summer and boy, was I a goner. Not only did you introduce an extraordinarily beautiful flower to me, but I got to see you wear it like a jewel. You— you are a queen. And you wore it as a crown. So, dear Nova, I'm letting you know yellow irises won't ever appear the same to me. —Always yours (even though you aren't mine yet). Nova blinked once. Then twice. Thrice. What in the... She snapped her head around, wild eyes searching in every direction though her brain was telling her the mystery boy (girl?) was long gone. Her mouth dropped open as her eyes fell on the beautiful cursive writing clutched in her hands. ××× "And we're sure this isn't a prank?" Caroline lifted a sceptical brow. But Nova could see a glint in her sister's eyes that was betraying her excitement. "Could be," Nova said absent mindedly, perfectly manicured fingers trailing down the stem of the iris. Had he known this was her favourite flower? Or had he just picked it because he thought she wore it well on that party? Already she wanted to ask him these questions in person. "And you're not worried?" Caroline asked though her eyes, that were identical to Nova's, were still stuck on the letter. "What's the worst that could happen?" Nova shrugged, but she knew in her heart she didn't feel completely nonchalant about this. "If it turns out to be some prank, yeah okay. A prank like this requires tremendous effort and no one would carry on with it for too long. And too long is exactly how much time it'll take for me to actually fall head over heels in love with someone." "But they've managed to get on top of those high bars you've set for a potential boyfriend." Caroline's tone was all-knowing. Nova pursed her lips before letting out a defeated sigh. "Okay, so maybe they've piqued my interest. But so have tons of other guys in the past. They've never succeeded in holding it though, 'cause first dates are all I've ever gone on. You know that." Caroline sighed and handed her the note back. "Just be careful, alright?" She warned. "If he starts getting creepy and asking to meet in dark alleys, you burn his notes and flowers and whatnot to kingdom come." Nova laughed, the tight ball in her stomach loosening as she watched her sister gather her long blonde hair with pink highlights into a messy bun. "Hey, do you need me to make something or does takeout sound okay to you?" Caroline inquired as she waved her phone in the air. "Takeout is fine," Nova murmured, her attention completely claimed by the pretty flower being twirled in her hands. Who the hell are you? She couldn't help but muse.
