WOOING YOU       NOVA WAITED BY THE INDOOR bleachers of her school as Adelaide, her best friend and vice captain of the cheerleaders, wrapped up the cheer practice for the day. "Paid any attention to the rumour mill lately?" Adelaide cut right to the matter as she approached Nova. "Word's gotten around about your secret admirer." "Okay, how the hell?" Nova looked flabbergasted. "I didn't tell a soul!" "Except Caroline," Adelaide commented as she chugged down a bottle of iced water. "And me." Nova shot the girl a deadpan look. "Unless the apparel company my sister works for has established a communication channel with the school, I highly doubt it came from her." Addy's lips twitched as she bit back a smile. "Smartass," she murmured, "You keep reminding me why I love you." Nova offered her a soft smile, one that most of the student body didn't get to see. They saw the standard, fit-for-a-toothpaste-ad smile that she flashed every now and then, but it was just routine to her. Nova never intended anything by it. "So you think some of the students just noticed the note and the flower taped to my car?" Nova wondered aloud. "Mm hmm," Addy nodded. "That's most probably it. And there's also the fact that there's another note taped to the door of your locker. Your regular one, not the gym one." Nova's jaw dropped to the floor. "What— why wouldn't you— what?!" She smacked her best friend's arm, at an utter loss for words. "Ow," Addy bit out, scowling at the skin that was quickly turning red. "Why didn't you tell me sooner, you pig?!" Nova cried over her shoulder as she ran down the bleachers and towards the doors of the gym, wanting to get to the hallways where her locker was. "Just because," she heard Addy drawl behind her, the latter girl seeming to be in no hurry to get to the note. There were five other girls surrounding her locker by the time Nova reached it. "Scoot, peasants!" And like a flock of pigeons, they hurried away, leaving Nova and an approaching Adelaide to themselves. The note, in the same pale blue paper, was taped on her locker. Nova noticed there weren't any flowers this time. Or anything else for that matter. "Well, do I need to rip off the tape for you?" Addy snapped. "Quit ogling at it already." Throwing her an unimpressed glance, Nova reached out to remove the note and unfold it. Nova, (my god, have I told you how beautiful your name sounds. I could keep going. Nova, Nova, Nova...) I hope I didn't creep you out. And I seriously hope you don't interpret this whole anonymous letter thing as a sign of cowardice. I mean yeah, I doubt I'd be able to prevent my knees from shaking when I stand in front of you and spill my heart out but this isn't me being afraid. This is me wooing you. ;) I know how big a die-hard romantic you are and I plan on climbing atop every single bar you've set, be it eleven feet high or more. You deserve to be wooed. And this is me letting you know that I intend to steal that heart of yours. Piece by piece. Word by word. Letter by letter. —always yours. Addy whistled. "Well, damn." Nova couldn't do anything but nod speechlessly. Was he watching her now? Would he notice the slight tremble in her hands? Oh boy, Nova sang in her head, I'm in so much trouble.
