Unnerving Introductions

Sarah POV

As I embrace my family, I smell an approaching rainstorm. After I quickly look to the heavens and determine the sky is void of any rain clouds, I glance over my father’s shoulder and note two towering figures moving toward us. I quickly raise my arms directing the fire from the torches to make a wall of protection between my family and the two unknowns encroaching on our space.

Uncle Terrence places a hand on my shoulder “Calm little one. They do not intend you any harm.”

I glance around at the Alphas and Lunas in attendance who give me an encouraging and knowing nod. I then look into the eyes of my father and Auntie who smile back at me.

Turning back to the two unknowns, who are now standing just on the other side of the firewall. I lower the flames just enough to make eye contact with the larger of the two. My breath catches and I swear my heart stops as I look into his endless blue pools for eyes. The smell of a rainstorm consumes me as I feel my breath and blood flow return. As of this moment in time there is no one else in the world except us two.

My uncle Terrence interrupts this moment of tranquility. “Sarah, I would like to introduce you to Alpha Travis Thyges of the Black Hills.”

The flames go out as suddenly my world comes crashing around me. Black Hills? The Alpha of Black Hills. The most ruthless and feared Alpha of the entire continental United States? No, this can’t be happening. He cannot be the one who is destined for me! I turn sharply on my heel, running into the woods of the opposite direction, seeking out my sanctuary.

Travis POV

As we cautiously tread nearer to the small gathering, I witness the wind blowing back the hair from my mates face as a look of recognition appears. She scans the sky seeking answers before her eyes lock onto me. Suddenly she takes action and a wall of flames burst from the distant torches to build a wall of protection between us and her people. I stop suddenly as the sensation of a knife slices through my gut, my sweet mate is afraid of me.

Chad looks over to me, offering a reassuring smile. “Man, I told you s**t was about to get heavy. Come on.” As he begins walking closer to the fire.

I continue with him and we stop just before we reach the flames. The heat is intense against my skin but I could not will myself to back away. Slowly they lower to fall just below my knees, enough so that I could step over but I didn’t dare make any moves that would startle my mate further.

I stare at my mate until her eyes lock onto mine. Electric eruptions burst throughout my body as the mate bond tugs on my soul.

The voice of Terrence gains my mates attention as he announces, “Sarah, I would like to introduce you to Alpha Travis Thyges of the Black Hills.”

The look of confusion crosses my sweet mates face, which quickly turns to horror. Abruptly she turns and runs the opposite direction into the woods as the flames go out at once, leaving me rooted to the spot while my soul shatters.

Jenni POV

As soon as my sister lowered her fire wall of protection, my eyes locked on the unknown man before me taking all 6’4 of him in, from the tattoos which were barely covered by his long sleeves and collared shirt, to his dirty blonde hair, and green eyes which immediately had my soul mesmerized. He smelled of pinetrees and molasses, which would now forever be my most favorite smell.

After hearing Terrence initiate an introduction I wasn’t shocked to learn of the identity of the larger wolf. For the moment I glanced at him, he appeared very dark and dangerously delicious before my eyes found the other half to my soul. I watched those brilliant green eyes turn black as the god-like man before me uttered the word “Mate.”

Suddenly the flames vanished, looking to my left I noted that my sister disappeared as well. Glancing around at all those who were present appeared to be too shocked to move, so I sucked up my remorse, took one last glance at the man destined to be mine, then turned taking off after my sister.

Chad POV

My mate was right there before me, staring deeply into my eyes just as I stared back into hers. She knew what we are to one another and I could tell she wanted me just as much as I want her. After the announcement of my Alpha’s identity, my sweet mate bit her lip, c*****g her head to the side as a small smile played upon her perfect rose colored lips.

Abruptly the flames went out and I felt the pain of my Alpha’s soul shattering through our pack link. I immediately went on guard, scanning our surroundings when I realized the future Luna was gone, my Alpha was safe from physical harm but dying inside. I took one more look at my mate, her face full of remorse as she took off for the trees.

Turning my attention to my alpha I helped him lower to his knee of the ground as Ember pushed himself forward and howled out to the Moon Goddess in despair.
