“What did Chad say?” asked Kiko after he’d sold a book to a customer. Dom had passed the orders to Chad, who was halfway across the store now, pulling items. “He snuck out because his mom didn’t want him coming in today.” Kiko rolled his eyes. “He’d better be willing to stay late, then,” he said. Dom wouldn’t look at him. Everything had gotten awkward since last night. Kiko had thought maybe Dom wouldn’t remember what he’d said before he’d fallen asleep, but Dom had been dropping so many hints this morning about their future that Kiko was not sure what to do with it. If Dom wanted to get married, Kiko would. But telling Dom that was another thing. Being so casual about it seemed wrong, but Dom was never bringing it up directly enough for Kiko to respond properly.
