Shipwreck
Justin woke up coughing and gasping for air, his head pounding as if it had been smashed against a wall. Water surged out of his mouth as he instinctively turned his head to the side, his body heaving from the effort. He struggled to move but felt a heavy weight pressing down on him, pinning him to the sand beneath. For a brief moment, panic shot through him. Was it debris from the ship? Had something collapsed on me? With a grunt, Justin forced his eyes open, the blurry world slowly coming into focus. But instead of wreckage or broken wood, he saw smooth, pale skin glistening under the sunlight. His breath hitched. The weight on his chest wasn’t an object—it was a person. A woman. Her golden hair, damp and tangled, draped over her face, obscuring her features but adding to the ethereal beauty of the scene. Her torn dress clung to her body in tatters, revealing more than it covered. A deep curve of cleavage peeked out from the remnants of the fabric, and her long legs, toned and elegant, rested partially against his side, as if she had unconsciously wrapped herself around him for warmth or stability. Justin blinked, heat rising to his cheeks despite the situation. He shifted slightly, careful not to jostle her too much. The last thing he wanted was to cause her more harm. “Hey,” he rasped, his voice hoarse. “Are you okay? Can you hear me?” He glanced around, his mind racing. Jagged rocks jutted out of the shoreline, and broken pieces of the ship were scattered across the beach. The endless blue horizon stretched out ahead, the only sound the rhythmic crash of waves against the shore. Where the hell am I? But the immediate concern wasn’t their location—it was survival. Justin shook the woman gently, his hand brushing her shoulder. It was Linda Duncan! His boss at the office. “Linda?” he murmured, disbelief and urgency mixing in his voice. “Miss Duncan! Can you hear me?” he called out, his voice shaky as he tried to rouse her while attempting to free himself. The pain in his feet throbbed, making every movement agonizingly difficult. However, his struggles only pressed their bodies closer together. Justin’s blood stirred, and his heart began to race uncontrollably. The sight of her flawless skin, her disheveled golden hair, and the delicate curves resting against him sent a surge of heat through his body. He swallowed hard, his lower half reacting involuntarily to the intimate closeness. The sensation of being enveloped by such a stunning woman both thrilled and unnerved him. Desperate to regain focus, he shook his head and forced himself to concentrate on waking her up. “Miss Duncan, wake up! Please!” he urged, his voice a mix of urgency and determination. She blinked, her gaze darting around as if trying to piece together what had happened. Her lips parted, but no words came. Instead, she shifted slightly, realizing their precarious position. A deep blush spread across her cheeks as she noticed how close they were and the state of her torn dress. “Pervert!” she yelled, her voice hoarse but filled with fury. “I was trying to save you!” Justin shot back, raising his hands defensively. Linda quickly buttoned her blouse, glaring at him with a mix of indignation and disgust. “I knew you were this kind of guy,” she snapped. “Rumors have been going around the office. Tom was right—you’re a scumbag. You’re fired!” Justin’s eyes widened at the mention of Tom’s name. The bastard who had not only slept with his girlfriend, Diana, but now tarnished his reputation in front of Linda. Justin clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. “Fine! Fire me! I don’t need your damn job anyway!” Justin barked, storming away in frustration. Survival was his priority now. He needed food and shelter until a rescue team arrived. After walking some distance, Justin stopped to gather his thoughts. He reached into his pocket, relieved to find his phone still there, but it refused to turn on. Frustrated, he flung it into the sand. Just days ago, he was on a luxurious ship heading to a private island owned by Linda’s father for a corporate retreat. Now, he was stranded on this mysterious island with no sign of other survivors. Justin exhaled heavily. His military training came to mind—a short-lived career he had abandoned for a higher-paying job at Linda’s father’s company. He had done it all for Diana, wanting to build a future with her. But Diana had shattered his heart when he caught her making out with Tom in his office. Now, with no job and a boss who hated him, Justin found himself in a new kind of hell. Glancing back at Linda, who still sat trembling on the sand, Justin sighed and turned toward the edge of the forest. He needed to find dry wood before nightfall. Gathering branches, Justin quickly built a campfire. The flickering flames cast warm light on the darkening beach. Linda hugged herself tightly, shivering as she eyed the fire. “You can sit here if you want,” Justin called out, his voice gruff. Linda hesitated before scooting closer to the fire, her teeth chattering. “T-Thank you,” she muttered reluctantly. “Finally, some gratitude,” Justin teased with a smirk. “Don’t make me regret it,” Linda snapped back, glaring at him. Justin chuckled dryly and stood, dusting off his pants. “Where are you going now?” Linda asked, her voice tinged with worry. “Don’t leave me alone.” He raised an eyebrow, amused by her sudden vulnerability. “Where’s the haughty boss from earlier?” he quipped. “Stop teasing me!” Linda fumed. “Relax. I’m just going into the forest to find something edible. We won’t last long without food. Stay here and keep the fire going, got it?” Linda nodded hesitantly, looking uncharacteristically obedient. Justin shook his head with a faint smile before disappearing into the dense forest. As he ventured deeper, a sense of unease crept over him. The trees were unnaturally tall, their gnarled roots twisting like ancient claws. The foliage was eerily silent—no rustling, no chirping, no signs of animals. Justin paused, scanning his surroundings. Something was definitely wrong with this place. He ventured deeper into the forest, determination etched on his face. He needed to find something—anything—before the sun completely disappeared beneath the horizon. Shadows stretched longer with each passing second, and the thick canopy above swallowed the last traces of daylight. He glanced around cautiously, his senses on high alert. The silence here was unsettling. Not a single rustle of leaves or chirp of birds broke the stillness, as if the forest itself was holding its breath. Suddenly, the sharp sound of a ‘crack’ shattered the eerie quiet. Justin froze, his heart skipping a beat. His pulse quickened as adrenaline surged through his veins. He spun around, his eyes darting toward the source of the sound. "Who's there?" he called out, his voice firm but slightly shaky. For a moment, there was no response—just the oppressive silence pressing down on him. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught movement. A shadow flickered between the trees, too fast for him to make out its shape. “Stay calm,” he whispered to himself, his hands instinctively curling into fists. Years of military training kicked in, reminding him to assess the situation instead of panicking. Taking a cautious step forward, Justin scanned the forest floor. A broken branch lay just a few feet away, its jagged ends suggesting it had been freshly snapped. His eyes narrowed as he crouched to inspect it. The break didn’t seem natural—it looked as though it had been crushed underfoot. Another faint rustling sound came from his right. Justin straightened, his muscles tense. "Alright, if you’re out there, come out now!" he demanded, his voice echoing through the quiet woods. This time, the rustling grew louder, closer. He turned to face it, ready for whatever—or whoever—might emerge.
