Chapter 18

230 Words
A Sinister Pursuit As they quickly made their way back to their car, Jessica couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, expecting to see James or one of his associates lurking in the shadows. Max noticed her nervousness and put a reassuring arm around her shoulders. "We're almost there," he said. "Just a little farther." But as they reached the car and started to get in, Jessica saw a black SUV pull up behind them. The windows were tinted, but she could sense the sinister presence lurking within. "Max, look!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with fear. Max turned to see the SUV, his eyes narrowing as he quickly assessed the situation. "Get in the car, now!" he shouted, pushing Jessica towards the door. As they sped away from the curb, the SUV gave chase, its tires screeching as it took the corner. Max expertly navigated the streets, dodging traffic and pedestrians as they desperately tried to shake their pursuers. Jessica held on for dear life, her heart racing with fear. She knew that James would stop at nothing to catch them, and she was terrified of what he might do if he succeeded. As they sped through the city, the SUV hot on their heels, Jessica couldn't help but wonder if they would ever be able to escape James' sinister grasp.
