“Hi Janice.” I waved as we approached the front desk.
“Morning, Annie. Did you bring reinforcements today?”
“Yep. You remember George?”
“Course I do.” Janice smiled sweetly. “Hi George.”
George nodded in reply.
“The dogs will be glad to see you both, we have a couple of energetic ones in this week who are raring for a run.”
“Actually, I did my ankle yesterday so I don’t think I could handle the dogs.”
George slipped his hand into mine.
“No probs. You can do the cats. George, do you think you’d be able to handle” —Janice glanced from George to me and back, a grin spreading over her face— “patting some kittens?”
“Reckon I can manage that.”
I dropped George’s hand and grabbed the pen from the desk. “We need to sign in, right?”
“Ah, yeah.” Janice leant closer as I signed
