12. SO YOU DANCE, SPOILED BRAT

1039 Words
He assisted me to our table. Pulled out the chair for me in the middle of the crowd dancing.  “Just take all the foods you want in there.” He pointed the long table on our side.  As we started eating, the music shifted from Nicky Minaj to LANY.  “Well that’s the kind of music transition I need.” He glanced at the DJ then nodded his head.  “We cannot talk if Super Bass is on the speakers, because I can’t afford not to dance if that is playing”  I laughed at him. “So you dance, spoiled brat.” He shook his head, smiling, he replied to me. “Only to Nicky Minaj”  We both stood up to grab food. He assisted me and introduced me to new set of dishes, foods I haven’t tried yet.  As we both found our way to the table, we started eating.  “So, this is Mitchell’s. Yours?” I took a bite of the sushi.  “Yep. Mine. Not my dad’s, not my mom’s. Mine.” He sat up straight, a proud smile playing on his lips. I don’t see him bragging, his eyes tell me he is happy and proud.  “Wow, I am proud of you.”  His eyes found his way to meet mine, he even tilted his head so he could face me better. “You are proud of me?” From the way he reacts, it felt like those words weren’t said to him for a long time. “Yes.” “Why?” His eyes were confused, but at the same time, it is longing for an answer.  “Imagine this is yours. You told me, not your parent’s, but yours. To have something like this? From your own hardwork? Just wow Grey.” I gave him a soft smile as I leaned closer to him. “And you are still studying yet you manage to handle this.” I waved my hands in the air. “This huge place. So yeah, Grey, I am proud of you.”  His innocent eyes were still staring at me, and I stared back. “Thank you for taking me here.” He grinned. “I’ll take you here whenever you like it.”  As we finished eating, we took a little walk and found a place where there are less people.  “Look at the city. It is so busy, this is going to be the death of me.” He stared below the building, the cars honking from a far you can barely hear it.  “I didn’t want to be enrolled in Addilyn. I don’t even want to study in this city but my dad won’t let me. I was dying here. This is where my mom died. Why stay here?”  This is another side of Grey I am seeing. I stared at him as he continued his story. “There is something about this city, about Addilyn that dad cannot let go. Something far more important than his family.” I can hear the disgust. His eyebrows knitted in anger.  I instantly held his hand which took him by surprise, and I was, too. But I didn’t bulged. “Calm down.”  “Yeah. Sorry”  “It’s okay.” I was about to let his hand go when he held mine this time. “Thank you, partner.” He stopped leaning on the side of the building, he stopped looking at the moving cars below,  and faced me instead. “For making my Addilyn Adventure a little easy to survive.”  “How about you make it easier for me too and help me with our assignment? It is due next week” I gave him a sarcastic smile which made him laugh. “I told you, I don’t have the brains.” He smiled at me sheepishly.  “Which reminds me, I miss Demetry.” His eyes went puppy again.  “Then see your boyfriend tomorrow and take him here too. He might be jealous of me if he knew you took me here.” “Yes. So don’t tell him.” We both laughed.  —- “Thank you Drake.”  “See you around, Sir. I hope you had fun, Ma’am.” He gave us another bow then left with the car. I looked at the university clock, it is seven forty five in the evening.  “Let’s go, I’ll take you to your dorm.”   “No, I am okay. You sound tired, too.”  He didn’t mind me, he started walking to the ladies dormitory.  “It feels nice to be outside the university every once in a while.” I stretched my arms. “It disconnects me from the stress and pressure that Addilyn provides.”  He chuckled. “Yeah. I’m glad you liked it.”  I was about to go directly inside the dormitory when I saw Daniel, again, sitting beside the vendo machine.  “Hey vendo man” Grey hollered at him.  Daniel just stared at him.  “What are you doing here?” Grey asked him. “There is our dormitory. Are you lost President?” He sound sarcastic.  Daniel just raised his eyebrows then turned to face me. “No, I was waiting for her.” Me? Why? “Alyanna? Why? I took her to dinner, she is tired, that can wait tomorrow, right?”  Grey said sternly.  “Yep. It can.” Daniel threw his soda can on the trash bin then walked towards me, his eyes were fixed on me. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Alyanna. Have a good sleep.” His scent roamed in my personal bubble in an instant.  I wasn’t able to answer since he already left without waiting for my reply.  “Go inside, now.” Grey’s happy face turned blank.  “Alright. Thank you, spoiled brat. See you tomorrow.”
