Chapter SixDieter clenched and unclenched his hand while pacing behind the shop counter. The raucous call of the cuckoo clock struck the hour. He grit his teeth. Thirty more minutes, and he could shoo away the crowd and lock the door. Any other day, he’d be thrilled to have the place filled with patrons. But today was not any other day. He’d agreed to help Gerhard transport two POW escapees after the shop closed under the premise of making deliveries to his customers. Secretly hauling the Allied soldiers and airmen to Switzerland was the right thing to do, but the thought did little to calm his nerves.
