“Get ready to fall back!” she shouted. The archers moved back, firing a volley of arrows between each step. The fighters fought all the harder, keeping the nightbringers pinned against the barricade while the archers retreated. Yet they could not hold the first barricade for much longer. The wooden planks had almost been charred beyond use, and the metal sheets buckled. Still, spears, axes, and swords all hacked through anything that poked over the barricade. The wood failed first.
