After a couple of hundred years, Cott house has seen its fare share of new owners, and a few people in that time have died of old age and some under some weird circumstances within the walls or on the grounds, it has been the centre of relationships that have ended in disaster, in the house, and lots of owners that have been too scared to stay more then 13 nights. The year is now 1859, Queen Victoria has been on the thrown for 22 years. Cott house has now been legally inherited by Mr Markus Thornhill and Mrs Lilly Thornhilll. Markus was a very proud man who made his money working for his father in a bank. He was also very proud of his inheritance, however, Lilly was not keen at all. As they took their luggage off the carriage, Lilly noticed a white evil smiling face in the window looking out at them, she screamed in terror. Markus fully piled upon with bags and cases looked around in a hurry and saw Lilly as white as a ghost with fear. He asked Lilly "what's the matter?" She turned to him and shoke her head and bardged past him. Markus placed the bags in the hallway and looked around in wonder. Markus was the grand child of Mr Thomas Thornhill and Mrs Agatha Thornhill, they left the house to Markus after they both passed away a year ago. Markus wondered how his grandparents ever efforded such a beautiful house in the first place. As the day passed Markus convinced Lilly that this was the best decision and they should start settling in. After much hard work and graft, all the luggage has now been put in its place and it was time for dinner, Markus realised that they had no food, so he decided to head out to grab some food, leaving an uneasy Lilly alone in the house. Lilly tried to suttaly stop him from going but if he did not take the hint otherwise they would not be eating tonight. Lilly walked into the lounge and sat egerly awaiting for markus to return. As she sat waiting she heard what sounded like footsteps in the room above, too scared to go and look she sat nervously waiting. When suddenly the foot steps stopped and the room became deathly quiet. As evening was drawing in, Markus still hadn't returned. Lilly found a book and got tucked into reading it while sat in the lounge. By this time her nerves have now settled. The time is now 8.53pm and while Lilly was reading away, she couldn't help but notice some strange sound's from within the dark echoey corridors of the house. As she sat with her book, she heard the distict sound of a baby crying. Her heart now racing beating hard, her breath became heavy, until she heard the crying baby no more. Now evermore desperate for Markus to come home she started to read her book again and tried to ignore it, when suddenly she heard that same pearcing scream that lord walter heard all those years ago. Scared out of her wits she threw the book down and with a heavy breath and fast beating heart stood looking at the door, waiting for someone or something to open it. It was then that she heard the front door open and Markus shout "Lilly!" Lilly ran out of the lounge and into Markus's arms in terror. Lilly cried "there was a baby crying upstairs and woman screamed there were these other noises too, we need to go please". Markus tried to calm her and reconsile her. Having finally calming Lilly down, Markus got her a stiff drink from the sideboard in the lounge and although their dinner was going to be very late Markus went to the kitchen start some dinner, followed by a very nervous Lilly. They went into the kitchen, when the time had just reached 9.15pm. As Markus started to cook, they suddenly heard from the dark and echoey corridors a very loud bang, which sounded like a shot gun fire and someone drop to the floor. "What in earth was that?" Markus exclaimed as he ran out of the kitchen with a candlarbra leaving Lilly alone again in the candlelit kitchen. Lilly noticed stood by the door which was open a jar someone stood by the door, Lilly shivered in cold sweat when she realised she could hear Markus running around upstairs, so a dreaded thought ran through her head, if Makus is upstairs, who the hell is that? The door slowly opened to reveal a tall black outline of a man stood there. Lilly curled into a ball of terror in the corner of the kitchen and screamed as loud as she could to get Markus's attention. Markus came rushing down over the stairs and bolted into the kitchen to find a terrified Lilly crying in the corner of the kitchen in a ball on the floor. It soon became apparent to Markus that Lilly desperately does not want to live in Cott house, so he started doubting her stories although they were only there for a couple of hours. Later on that night dinner was eaten and Markus and Lilly went to bed. as they walked into the room Markus noticed a very powerful smell of vomit on their bedroom floor. So he suggested they go to another room until he can sort that awful smell. As Markus lay snoring and deep in sleep, Lilly could not get the earlier events of that evening out of her head. She tossed and turned. As she held her hand on the edge of the bed and closed her eyes, she felt someone hold her hand. She opened her eyes but knowone was there. At this point she thought that her mind was playing tricks on her. Feeling hot she took the covers off one side of her body and had her foot ever so slightly over the edge of the bed, and from nowhere in the pitch black darkness she felt her right foot being dragged out of the bed. As Lilly tried to resist and desperately tried to wake Markus up, while being slowly pulled off the bed, Lilly hit the floor, as she turned her head she was laying next to the body of Lady Cott staring right at her with her dead look in her face. Lilly let out a really loud scream which in turn finally woke Markus from his deep sleep. The next morning Markus and Lilly had their things packed again on their carriage and left Cott house, with the intentions of selling the property. They were one of the many few that only lasted the night.
