Prologue: The Ravenwood Family
Harold Bloodfang stood at the border of the Ravenwood farm. He didn't need to sniff the air to smell the horses, and.. catch the scent of 4 humans. The shadow of the stables in the full moon cast an eerie glow. From within the stable, the horses kicked and screamed into the night, feeling the presence of the werewolves nearby. The fields were empty with only a horse or two. The gravel pathway was smooth, mostly, but it would crunch under steps. "They're in there." Harold said to his Beta, Ewan Kovar, by his side. Ewan nodded, for he could smell and hear them too. There was also something else. something they could all hear, "What of the mother and child?" Lights could be seen from the small farmhouse and figure dashed around in there. "Kill them too. The blood we are owed for my fathers death... such a crime? The Ravenwoods are to be wiped out." Harold had no intent on sparing any of this family. "My mothers cries were louder." Ewan wasn't sure how he felt about killing an infant... There were 3 other pack members, Gus, Tony, and Oscar, who stood behind them, and they seemed to shuffle uncomfortably at the Alpha's words. The newborn child could be heard by normal humans, crying in the small farmhouse. It didn't take werewolve' heightened senses to hear it. However, it only sounded louder and served to annoy Harold even more. "We will have peace once it is silenced." He was consumed with exacting vengeance. Blood for blood for what had happened to his family. "It is just a child..." Gus mumbled under his breath. Not quiet enough for Harold not to hear. He turned and gave a look at Gus. His Alpha aura suddenly was no longer suppressed, and the packmember in human form dropped to his knees. He couldn't hold up against the Alpha, and he had questioned his decision. "This is the child of a hunter. This is a hunter family. What is worse, the mother is a witch. It's unknown about the father... or the old man. We can not leave any alive, or they will come for the Bloodmoon pack. It is the ways of hunters, and it is why our laws are so." Harold seemed calm, but his words were laced in menacing tone. Ewan knew this and the background of the Ravenwoods and the harm they had done. He wouldn't question the Alphas decision - that didn't quelm how he felt about killing an infant. He then turned his thoughts, more concerned about the fact that the woman was a witch. This was already known to him, "Alright Harold, how would you like us to proceed with this? Caution, perhaps? There are many unknowns." With a dark chuckle, Harold began to walk forward and signalled with his hands that the others should fall in line. "They already know we are here..." ................................................... From within the small farmhouse, the horses' screams could be heard, and the small family knew what was coming. An older woman with wild grey hair stood watching at the kitchen window. Seeing the group of shadowed people approach slowly from the bottom of the long driveway, "Jackson, my love, they have come, and it is no surprise for their kind." "Lilly, you haven't finished our daughters training yet, and I...? What am I but a hunter and a human hunter at that." Jackson rushed to grab his shotgun, clutched a silver shotgun, his pocket lined with silver bullets. He fumbled, preparing a load ready to fire. "I can at least fight for our family!" The child, Saorsie, had been awoken by the horses cries. The stables were very close by. Heather tried her best to soothe her child as she listened to her mother and father. She was in no position to fight right now, and protecting her daughter was her only option... she hadn't finished her training as a grand witch and her own mother, Lilly was old in her age and her power was lessening. "How many, mother? How many have come?" She cradled and soothed Saorsie the best she could as she spoke. "Five," Lilly replied, not moving from the window. "We have taken out more than five." Jackson began to feel a little hopeful until her next words. The old witch grimaced, "It's the Alpha. The Beta and 3 more tailing them. There could be others around the perimeter. My power is weak, and so my wards have failed us. I have failed us." She then turned to look at her daughter and granddaughter. The first daughter in their family line was always strong, and this one wasn't human either, at least not entirely. She wasn't sure what the other side was. It was something even she had never encountered in her life, but she knew it would make her granchild stronger than even her or her own daughter. "If I have to... I will form a blood oath with my life to protect her." Heather chimed in, but her eyes remained fixed on the blue-eyed baby in her arms. Slowly, the rocking was working, but the child never really settled. Lilly knew the odds were against them and their line of witches was old, but not old enough to overpower an Alpha and Beta. "We fight." "Yes!" Jackson called, readying his hand on the door, "I'm ready." The old witch went over to him and kissed him sweetly, he responded... until he tasted cold wet salt. The tears of a witch... these were rare. She broke the kiss and looked at him, "No, my love, you must stay here and protect our granddaughter." Heather was already moving out of her seat to hand the child to Jackson. Taking the gun out of his hands and exchanging them with Saorsie. "Please dad. Her own father is out there. When the time comes... he will come for her. He is neither human, sorcerer, witch or werewolf. He is something else entirely." At this, the old witch snapped dead into her daughters eyes. This was something that she had refused to tell the old witch - the child's father and what exactly he was. His heart was breaking... he thought. No, shattering. These women were strong but not enough to take down the head of a pack and his Beta with others... there were things they could do. At what cost, though? He cradled the infant now, with fear clutching his own heart, tears in his eyes and terror squeezing the lungs. What if...? "What is our granddaughters name to be...? Just... just in case?" They all knew why he had asked such a thing. Except the little infant playing with his shirt. "Saorsie. Her name is Saorsie Ravenwood, and if it's the last thing I do. I will ensure that she doesn't die tonight and is protected forever from... them..." Her eyes narrowed at the group now half way up the path. It felt to all as it was and the old witch said it. "They're stalking us." Heather then had an idea, "Mother, I know I'm not as strong as you, but I have a plan... will you follow me to the back field?" "Anything for my family's safety. As a student, you've always been a bright and talented young witch... it's in our bloodline." With that they left out of the back kitchen door. Jackson took Saorsie into the smallest room, which was to be her room. Sitting down on the bed with her, tears falling on the blanket she was wrapped in. The chaos of this night was overwhelming. After a while, howls and snarls could be heard at the back of the house. No knock came at the door. Later, after that, a gunshot was heard. He waited and waited until there was blue in the sky, and the roosters awoke... The two women never again would step back into the old farmhouse.
