Chapter 15: A Type “Hey, Tommy! How’s the scouting going?” Kian called out, a playful grin spreading across his face as he leaned against the railing of the porch. Kian was tall and athletic, with very dark brown hair that fell just above his piercing dark brown eyes. His dark olive skin tone complemented his confident demeanour, making him stand out in the crowd. There was an effortless charm about him, and his magnetic presence drew people in, making him one of the more popular guys in their circle. Tommy forced a smile, trying to shake off the remnants of his earlier frustration with Jake. “It’s going well, just… you know, the usual,” he replied, shrugging as he joined him on the steps. The camaraderie was comforting, and he found himself relaxing in their presence, even if only for a moment. The crisp autumn air was filled with the scent of pine and the distant sound of laughter as Tommy stood with Kian and their friends. The old wooden and stone houses of the cabin compound were adorned for the turning festival, vibrant bunting strung between the rustic structures fluttering gently in the breeze. Twinkling string lights crisscrossed overhead, casting a warm glow that illuminated the faces of the young wolves gathered for the festivities. Laughter echoed around him, a comforting sound that momentarily eased his troubled mind. At the centre of it all stood the Alpha’s house, Bryce’s home, a grand structure that loomed with authority yet felt welcoming. Groups of young wolves milled about their excitement palpable as they prepared for the weekend of transformation that awaited them. As Tommy continued to chat with Kian, a shift in the atmosphere drew his attention. A group of girls emerged from the main hall, their spirits high and laughter infectious. Among them were Bianca and Sarah, two of the most striking girls in their pack. Bianca sported a chic short bob with a fringe that framed her face perfectly, accentuating her sharp features. Her bright green eyes sparkled with mischief, and she wore a fitted dress that accentuated her athletic figure, making her look effortlessly stunning. Beside her, Sarah radiated an infectious energy, her laughter ringing like a bell. She had soft, wavy brown hair that fell just past her shoulders and a bright smile that could light up any room. Her hazel eyes danced with excitement as she approached Tommy and Kian, her presence instantly commanding attention. “Tommy!” Bianca called out, her voice melodic as she made her way toward him, the other girls following closely behind. “I was hoping to catch you before the ceremonial part of the festival. Would you come with me? It would mean a lot.” Tommy’s heart raced at the unexpected invitation. He had always found Bianca captivating, her confidence and charm drawing him in. He opened his mouth to respond, but a glance at Sarah, who stood slightly behind Bianca, made him hesitate. He had already turned down her earlier advances, and he didn’t want to risk hurting her feelings again. As Tommy stammered, unsure of how to navigate the moment, Kian seized the opportunity. “Actually, Sarah,” he interjected smoothly, a charming grin on his face, “would you like to go to the festival with me instead? I think we’d have a great time together.” Sarah’s eyes lit up at Kian’s unexpected invitation. “Really? I would love that!” she exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious. Kian’s confidence seemed to draw her in, and she quickly stepped closer to him. Before Tommy could react, Sarah leaned in and kissed Kian softly on the cheek, her smile radiant. “Thank you for asking me! This is going to be so much fun,” she said, her excitement palpable as she turned her attention to the festivities. Tommy watched the scene unfold, a mix of surprise and admiration washing over him. He could see the way Kian’s charm had captivated Sarah in an instant, and he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy. As the girls turned to join the festivities inside the main hall, Tommy felt a mix of relief and regret. He watched them go, particularly noting how Bianca carried herself with an air of grace and confidence that left him momentarily captivated. “Dude, you really should have gone with her,” Kian nudged him playfully, his smile still wide as he basked in the afterglow of Sarah’s kiss. “She’s like, out of everyone’s league! You could have had a great time.” Tommy chuckled, shaking his head. “Yeah, but Sarah’s a good friend. I didn’t want to leave her hanging.” “Fair enough,” Kian replied, though the teasing grin remained. “But don’t be surprised if Bianca finds someone else to take her to the ceremonies.” “Hey, man, look I gotta know... are you holding out for someone else or what?” Kian asked, a teasing glint in his dark brown eyes as he nudged Tommy. “I mean, you just turned down Bianca Williams. You know she’s like the crush of every guy in our age group, right? Wasn't she your buggest crush too?” Tommy shrugged, trying to play it cool. “Actually, there is someone,” he replied, his mind drifting to a girl with dark hair, sapphire eyes, and pale skin. She felt like gravity, always pulling him in, anchoring him in a way that left him both enchanted and confused. Kian raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Oh really? Who is it? Spill the beans, man!” Tommy hesitated, caught between the desire to share and the need to keep his feelings private. “I don’t know if you’d know her. She’s… different. Just someone who really gets me.” Kian glanced over at Bianca, who was laughing with her friends, her dark hair catching the light. “It seems like you have a type, after all. You used to have the biggest crush on Bianca,” he said, a grin spreading across his face. “Yeah, well, things change,” Tommy muttered, feeling a mix of nostalgia and uncertainty. “This girl, she’s not like Bianca. She’s got this whole vibe… it’s hard to explain.” Kian chuckled, nudging him again. “So, you’re saying you’ve moved on to a new crush who’s somehow even more intriguing? You’ve got to give me more than that!” Tommy smiled slightly, shaking his head. “Let’s just say, she’s someone I can’t stop thinking about. But it’s complicated.” “Complicated, huh? Sounds like classic Tommy,” Kian teased, but there was a hint of seriousness in his tone. “Just don’t let this one slip away, man. You never know where the night might lead.” As the night unfolded, laughter and music filled the air around the cabin. Tommy took a deep breath, trying to push aside the remnants of his earlier argument with Jake and the confusion surrounding his feelings for both girls. Instead, he focused on the festive atmosphere, the excitement of the upcoming turning, and the bonds of friendship that tied them all together. With the decorations sparkling under the moonlight and the promise of transformation lingering in the air, Tommy felt a sense of hope. The turning festival was just beginning, and with it came new possibilities that he was eager to explore, even amid the complexities of friendship and budding feelings.
