Chapter 1:Jerk
I woke up annoyingly, disrupted by my phone alarm.
Today is the first day of the school year after the pandemic. I smiled to myself as I remembered that I could finally see my friends every day.
"Lucas, wake up, your dad is waiting for you, you're going to be late for school". I heard my mom shouting from the kitchen.
I took a quick shower and changed into my uniform and went to the kitchen. I was greeted by the smell of my mother cooking. I smiled at myself, excited at how my day would go in school.
"Good morning honey, excited about school?" mom said to me, smiling.
"Yes, I couldn't sleep last night almost thinking about school" I replied to her.
"If you are excited enough please don't make the same mistake you did last year" my dad butted in, that made me silent.
"Do you dare to fail numerous subjects again, just don't disappoint me" my dad continued.
Last school I failed three subjects and the other one almost failed. That makes my father disappointed in me again. The first time I disappointed him was when I didn't get the scholarship in my last year of elementary days, which made me end up here in public school. He said that he would just spend his money on nothing if I went to a private school. "Its much better just to invest that money instead of paying for your tuition" I remember my father said that to me when I said I wanted to study at some prestigious school.
My first day in 7th grade or my first day in my first year in high school is not as bad as what I thought it would be. I have my friend here, Celine, while Sandra went to study at another school. I had a great experience in my first year in high school. I met a lot of friends that I still had in my last year of being a high school student.
"Stop that nonsense of yours, honey. Don't listen to him, I know you will do great" Mom said, defending me.
"He better to" my dad scoffs.
I just smiled and nodded and started eating my breakfast.
I know why my dad feels this for me. I disappointed him countless times. While being in the pandemic, I had a girlfriend that I truly loved to the point that I devoted all my time to her. I neglected my studies, which resulted in my failing my subjects. My dad got angered at me and said to break up with that girl, but I still insist. We're having our 3rd anniversary in the next two months, and I'm so excited about it. Even though my friends didn't like her for unknown reasons. Its just a pity that we didn't go to the same school.
As I finished his breakfast, I followed my dad in his car to drop me off at school. While in the car, I put my headphones on as I didn't want the whole ride to be awkward.
We finally arrived at school and bid goodbye to my father. Although we never get along, I always want to respect my father.
When I stepped out of the car, I saw a bunch of students going in, so I rashly went to the gate. I greeted the guard with a smile as he checked my bag.
It felt so nice to be back at school after the pandemic. I can finally feel the school atmosphere physically.
I was smiling to myself while walking to the building when suddenly a group of friends bumped into me and made me fall to the ground. I was so stunned at what happened and had my two eyes get bigger. The two girls quickly apologized to me as the other boy just stared at me and rolled his eyes.
"Let's go, we're going to be late" the boy said to the two girls.
"Ya! at least apologize" the girl with glasses said.
"Tsk! why should I? He is the one who is stupid here" the boy said and walked away.
"We apologize for him" the two girls said to me as I nodded, and they ran to fetch the boy.
"Oh god what he's problem, what a nice way to start my morning" I said to myself and went to my classroom with a frown in my face.
The moment I found my classroom, I quickly went in and searched for my friends. I took a seat beside Celine and Sandra. They have been my friends since elementary, and I'm just grateful that we are still friends. They both greeted me with a good morning, then noticed my frowning face.
"Hey Lucas, what's wrong? Why are you frowning?" Celine said, concerned, asked me.
I took a deep breath and vented my anger by telling how a boy ruined my morning.
"Can you imagine I was the victim here but still calls me stupid?" I ranted.
"Uhm....you're always stupid dude" Sandra said to me as I rolled my eyes at her.
"So I was saying that boy is a jerk and-"
"And what?, Mr. stupid" the boy behind me said?
The voice was so deep, and I knew where this voice was coming from. It was from the boy who ruined my morning. I was completely stunned to hear his voice behind me. My eyes got bigger and my friends laughed at my reaction while I quickly composed myself to face him.
I was again stunned when I turned around because of how close his face was to mine.
"Did you just blush at that cutie?" He said to me and I blushed more at what he called me.
"C-c-cutie did he just call me cutie?" I thought to myself.
"No I'm not, it's just a redness from anger and can't you see it was so hot" I replied to that jerk.
"Since you're being cute this time, I will let this pass this time" the jerk said to me, winking. While I just rolled my eyes at him.
" By the way, let me introduce myself to you. I am Charles and what about you? What's your name?" He asked me.
I just ignored it and went back to my seat.
"What just happened, huh, cutie?" Celine said to me with a hint of teasing.
I just rolled my eyes at her and opened my phone, disappointed that Lily didn't text me at all. I just sigh and browse on my social media. Lily was my girlfriend for almost three years. I still remember the first time that I saw her around the grocery store in our neighborhood. It was like cupid hitting you with his arrow and making you fall in love with that person in an instant.
I just missed her.
Suddenly, the teacher came in and said that the class would start soon.
"Welcome to the start of our school year. It's nice to be back here and see you all" Our smiles reach our ears as soon as the teacher starts. Some students frown, but most of them are happy that we are finally back after many years.
"I am teacher Julie the class advisor of this class, but you can just call me Ms. Julie" Ms. Julie introduced herself to the class.
"You know that before we start we will have a get to know each other activity" Ms. Julie announced that made the class groan in response, but Ms. Julie just laughed it off.
Nonetheless, my classmates started the activity and I had a chance to get to know them little by little. Finally, it was my turn to introduce myself, but just before I stood up, one person shouted and made me sit still. The class goes wild about what they hear.
