His and hers

Chapter 2

[Serena]

I walked in the class and the teacher assigned me a seat at the front. I could feel everyone staring at me, but i ignored them, focussing on the lesson. I answered some questions and finished my work before the bell went off, dismissing us all. Everyone pushed and shoved out of the door while i trailed at the back. “How was science?” a voice from behind me said. I turned to see Alex lazily leaning against the wall with a genuine smile on his face. “Fine, it was nothing too hard. I have a free period and I was going to explore the rest of the school to try and work out how the hell I am going to navigate my way round this place” I replied while looking around. 

“Well it’s your lucky day kitten because I also have a free period” Alex stated while smirking. 

“Kitten?”

“Because you are curious” he replied as if it was obvious.

“The saying is actually curiosity killed the cat” I corrected. 

“But you are not big enough to be a cat. You are a cute little kitten” he mumbled and we both burst out laughing. 

He took me on a tour of the school as we got to know each other better. Before we knew it, it was time for the last class. In this school we only had three lessons a day and then left at lunch time so I was excited. He dropped me off at English then sauntered off. “So you are the new s**t of the school, huh?” a voice in the class sneered. I turned arount to face a tall, beautiful blond girl. “You have only been here for two seconds and you have started speaking to nerdy little Alex” she continued. In no mood for confrontation i gave her the finger and then turned around. This time time at the end of the lesson i was the first to slip out. 

I managed to find the exit easy enough, but before i left i heard Alex shouting my name. I stopped and then saw him rush around the corner and straight towards me. “You didn’t wait for me kitten ” he said sadly.

“I am sorry. I just wanted to get out of this place” I replied completely ignoring his use of my nickname.

“What happened? You can tell me anything” 

“Nothing, I am apparently already a s**t because I have been here ‘two seconds’ and have already tried it on with you” I told him quoting what the blond girl had sneered at me. 

“Chelsea must have said that. I am so sorry. It isn’t true and you and me both know it so who cares what anyone else thinks” he stated while pulling me into a hug “we have to stick together, the two of us because all we have is each other”. We said goodbye to each other and exchanged phone numbers before walking opposite directions.

We walked away from each other and i sighed realising that I had ruined everything I had set out to do. I don’t get close to humans because I don’t like keeping secrets and I can’t tell them what I am. Why did i let her get close? I guess it feels nice to have someone to talk to and hang out with, but only until it happens. Then I have to leave her alone.
