MY RUNAWAY LUNA
MY RUNAWAY LUNA
I EMBRACED myself when the cold wind blew from the south. I have been running for I don’t know how long. All I know is I was running for my life until I got out of this forest. But the sun is already setting now. I still can’t see the end of this forest. I wanted to stop and rest for a moment, but every time I think about the people running after me, it makes me anxious.
"Just run, Cordelia, and don’t stop running. Whatever you hear or feel, you just run. Run to the farthest place where no one can find you." That’s what I repeatedly whispered to myself as I ran away from that big mansion. When I get out of this forest, I can make sure I get away from the demon that lives in that mansion. I can say that I am safe for now.
“Chase that woman!" I heard a man shout. "She can’t escape. We need to get her back to the mansion before the Master arrives,” shouted the chief of the guards in the mansion.
I was now hiding in a large tree I had passed, as I could barely breathe because of the lack of air. But I couldn’t leave now because the guards suddenly appeared near where I was hiding. I still had to wrap some plants around my body so they wouldn’t smell me. That’s what I’ve noticed since I ran away from them. Everywhere I go, they find and follow me as if there is something in my smell, so that they can follow me wherever I go.
I slowly stepped forward and carefully hid in the trees near me as I walked away from them. Even though my heart was beating relentlessly, and it was about to come out of my chest, I couldn't stop. I still needed to escape this place. Every time I run, my hair stands as if someone is watching me from afar. Even though I was tired and my knees were weak, I couldn’t stop. I still have to run away from this place. If I get out of this ruin, only then can I make sure I’m safe.
It was as if a thorn had pulled me out of the forest, but a light met me. I quickly ran into the middle of the road and blocked myself just in case it stopped. And a vehicle stopped in front of me. I was taken aback when the car opened, and a man emerged.
“H-help me!” I faintly whispered.
“What happened?” he asked as he approached me.
“H-help me, please!” I repeated as my vision slowly darkened.
I can break free from this scary place. I can sleep at night without thinking that something bad might happen to me. I will be free from a marriage that I did not want in the first place. A marriage of atonement for all my family’s sins, and I’ll be the one who’s paying for it.
