Chapter one
Kate POV If looks could kill, then Gilbert's family would be searching for his body right now. How could he? How dare he?! I stood there, my tightened grip on a shard of glass finally loosening enough for it to drop and break into smaller pieces. Blood dripped from my palm but I didn't care. Not in the slightest with what I was witnessing right now. "It's not what you think." Gilbert said, pushing my mother off him. "I can explain!" "Explain what?! I just saw my mother bouncing up and down your d**k and you think I'm dumb enough to believe your lies?! Gilbert! She's my mom! Did you have to cheat on me with her?!" I screamed, angry tears flowing down my cheeks. "Oh just shut up, Kate! Shut up!" my mother ordered, walking towards me, "I married your father, hoping I would one day get his riches but that bastard dies and leaves every f*****g penny to you?! How much more greedy do you have to be to inherit all that and still be married to a successful business man?! Huh?!" My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe I was hearing all this from the mouth of the same woman who gave birth to me. Gilbert looked shocked too, but for a different reason. He confronted my mother head on. "I thought you said you loved me." he said to her, "that what we had was real. We planned everything together to..." "Shut up, i***t!" she cut him off before he could say anymore but I wasn't that stupid not to understand what was going on. "So you both played me?" I sniffed and wiped off my tears with my clean hand. I smiled, "I wish you two the best. I took off my ring and placed it on Gilbert's desk, "I'll send you the divorce papers." With that, I turned and walked out of his office. The employees there stared at me like I was crazy, some with pitiful eyes, while majority voiced their opinions in whispers as they eyed me. I ignored them until I stormed out of the company and got into my car. That was when I cried my heart out. My loving husband and mom were f*****g behind my back. How many times did they do it? For how long? Why? I punched the steering wheel but winced in pain from the cut in my palm. I needed to get away from here. I started the car and drove off into the road while I kept zoning out occasionally, thinking about all I've seen and feeling the pain over and over again. Suddenly, my eyes fell on the road once more and I almost screamed, feeling my heart jump out of my chest as I stomped on the brakes just inches away from the old lady crossing in front of me. She cursed at me and I sighed in relief, but while I thought the danger was over, CRASH! A car hit mine from behind. My grip on the steering wheel tightened. I was in no mood for a situation like this one but I knew I had to face that person. After taking a deep breath, I reluctantly stepped out of my car but bumped into someone who almost threw me off balance. I looked up to see a tall menacingly handsome man standing and glaring at me like his heart was as dark as the clothes he wore. "Oh. So it's a woman?" he said in a tone of voice I could feel deep in my chest, "no wonder." "Excuse me?" I clenched my fists, now frowning back at him. I was going to apologize but not after he decided to speak to me in that manner. Four more men appeared from behind him but I couldn't care less. I was already pissed and no-one messes with me when I'm pissed. "I'm waiting for your apologies woman. Clearly, you won't be able to pay for the damages." the man added. I scoffed and opened my car door but he slammed it shut so fast and loud that it startled me. "You aren't going anywhere till you apologize." he said, almost like a threat as he leaned closer, his right hand still resting on my door. I forced a smile through my deep annoyance, "I just want to get something out of my car and then I'll APOLOGIZE" Seemingly curious, he removed his hand and I opened the car door again. I stretched in and grabbed my handbag, taking out a cheque book which I scribbled an amount on and tore out. Finally, I faced the stranger with a sweet smile which soon turned into a glare just as menacing as his. Raising my right hand with the cheque, I gave him a tight slap which plastered the paper to his face. "There's my apology." I stated. He took the paper off his face and for a moment there, I thought I saw him smirk at it's content. The other four men wanted to charge at me but he raised a hand, stopping them immediately while I got into my car and drove off. The audacity of some people! On reaching my home, I slammed the front door shut and went up the stairs to my bedroom but as soon as I stepped inside, I felt a hard hit against the back of my head and everything around me went dark.
