Chapter 20

688 Words
The boardroom at Kane Enterprises was tense enough to feel like a war zone. Alexander and Lila had arrived early, papers and laptops in hand. Today wasn’t just another meeting—it was the battlefield where alliances, betrayals, and power plays would clash. Across the table, the board members sat stiffly. Marcus leaned back in his chair, a smug, controlled expression masking his nervous energy. At the far end, Seraphina Vale sat flawlessly poised, her presence like ice in the room. Boardroom Showdown The chairman cleared his throat. “We’re here to finalize the vote regarding Kane Enterprises’ leadership and the potential Vale alliance.” Alexander’s gaze swept the room. “Before any vote is cast, there are facts that need to be addressed.” He turned to the board’s screens, bringing up the emails, memos, and leaked information compiled by Lila. “This,” Alexander said, “is a record of manipulation by Marcus Hale, acting without board authorization to destabilize leadership. And this,” he clicked, revealing Lila’s detailed dossier, “is an attempt to weaponize a personal relationship against me—against us.” Marcus stiffened. “This is—” Alexander didn’t flinch. “—illegal, unethical, and entirely transparent now.” Seraphina’s eyes narrowed. “Bold move. But do you really think this protects you? Or does it just escalate the stakes?” Alexander’s voice was calm, deliberate. “It protects us. And now the board must choose: do they side with manipulation, or with transparency and capability?” The room went silent. Every board member felt the weight of the decision. Seraphina Strikes She rose slowly, her heels echoing ominously across the polished floor. “Let’s be honest,” she said, voice smooth, controlled, sharp. “You may have exposed Marcus’ actions. That’s impressive. But it doesn’t change reality.” She turned toward Lila, eyes piercing. “And you, Miss Hart… you’ve inserted yourself into matters far beyond your experience. You are charming, resourceful—but dangerously naïve. Many here are wondering if your presence threatens corporate stability more than it protects it.” A hush fell. Lila’s pulse raced, but she stood straight. “I am not a threat,” she said firmly. “I am an asset. Alexander Kane’s judgment is not compromised by my presence—his choices are guided by integrity, not convenience. And if you attempt to make me a scapegoat, you will reveal the vulnerability in your own strategy.” The room tensed further. Even Seraphina’s smirk faltered slightly. Alexander’s Counterstrike Alexander stepped beside Lila. “Let’s also address the elephant in the room.” He brought up Seraphina’s past scandal—the failed tech investment fund, the undisclosed settlements, and the risks it posed to any board alliance she attempted to force. “This,” Alexander said calmly, “is the kind of instability that masquerades as control. And this,” he gestured to the screens with Marcus’ manipulations, “is the kind of deception you hoped to weaponize against us.” The board shifted uncomfortably. Shareholders’ eyes widened. The narrative had flipped. Now Seraphina and Marcus were exposed—not Alexander and Lila. Tensions Peak Seraphina’s voice was measured, but with a dangerous edge: “Clever. But cleverness alone will not secure control.” Alexander’s voice matched hers, steady and unwavering: “Control is earned through transparency, competence, and courage. Not manipulation, not threats, not public pressure.” Lila stepped closer, reinforcing his statement silently with her presence. “You underestimated us,” she said quietly, eyes locked on Seraphina. “And that was your first mistake.” For the first time, Seraphina’s confidence cracked—not entirely, but enough to be noticed. Marcus’ smirk was gone, replaced by frustration. The Shift By the end of the meeting, whispers filled the room. Shareholders were murmuring to each other, re-evaluating alliances. The vote was no longer a foregone conclusion. Alexander and Lila had turned the tables. But the war was far from over. Seraphina would regroup. Marcus would strategize anew. And outside, the city watched eagerly, unaware of the machinations happening behind the glass walls.
