THE FACELESS SOUL
THE FACELESS SOUL ## Chapter 1: The Man With No Face Rain in Lahore never felt like rain. It felt like the sky was crying for all the things people refused to cry about. Ayaan Malik stood on the 50th floor of Alina Tower, watching the city drown below him. His suit was Armani. His watch was Patek. His face was blank. To the world, he was Lahore’s youngest billionaire. CEO of Alina Corp. 28 years old. Cold. Untouchable. To the other world, he didn’t exist. His phone buzzed. Unknown number. He didn’t pick up. He never did. The message came instead: *Warehouse 9. 2 AM. They have a girl.* Ayaan closed his eyes. Two years. Two years since he put on the mask and became Faceless. Two years since he promised himself he wouldn’t feel anything. "Failure," he said to the empty room. The word echoed. --- Lahore, 6 months ago. Aayat Khan was 25 and tired. Tired of freelance jobs that paid late. Tired of pretending she was okay. Tired of the nightmares. She worked data entry for a "marketing company" in Gulberg. Good pay. No questions. Until the day she opened the wrong file. Names. Bank accounts. Photos. Kids. Women. Men. All marked "shipment". Her hands shook. She copied the file to a USB and walked out. She didn’t know who to call. The police? They were on the payroll. She ran. That night, she met him. Not Ayaan Malik the CEO. Faceless. She was in an alley in Anarkali, 3 men behind her. The lights went out. When they came back on, the 3 men were on the ground. And standing in front of her was a man in a black coat. Black mask. No face. "Are you hurt?" His voice was low. Gravel. Aayat shook her head. She couldn’t speak. "Give me the USB," he said. She did. "Go home. Don’t go to work tomorrow. Don’t go to your old home. Ever." "Who are you?" she whispered. He tilted his head. "No one." Then he was gone. Aayat never forgot that voice. --- Present. 1:45 AM. Warehouse 9. Ayaan parked his bike 2 blocks away. No car. No trace. He wore black. Gloves. Boots. And the mask. No eyes. No mouth. Just smooth black. He moved like a shadow. 4 guards outside. Down in 30 seconds. Inside: 6 more. And a girl. 16. Tied to a chair. "Please," she was crying. "Please let me go." Ayaan didn’t answer. Faceless didn’t talk. He moved. When it was over, the girl was free and the men weren’t moving. He handed her his jacket. "Go. Police are 5 minutes out. Anonymous tip." She ran. Ayaan stood alone in the warehouse. Blood on his gloves. This was the 47th time this year. His phone buzzed again. Not unknown. Ayaan Malik. "Where are you?" His assistant. "Board meeting at 8 AM. The Dubai investors." Ayaan looked at his bloody gloves. "I’ll be there." He pulled the mask off. Ayaan Malik stared back from a broken mirror. Same face. Different man. --- 8:00 AM. Alina Tower Boardroom. Suit. Clean shave. Smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "The Dubai deal is closed," Ayaan said. "2.4 billion." Applause. No one knew that 6 hours ago his hands were covered in someone else’s blood. After the meeting, his assistant, Hamza, followed him to the office. Hamza was 27. Loyal. The only person who knew about Faceless. "You look like hell, boss," Hamza said. "I’m fine." "You’re not fine. You haven’t slept in 3 days." Ayaan poured coffee. Black. "Sleep is for people with nothing to do." Hamza sighed. "The girl from last night. She’s safe. In a shelter." "Good." "Sir... you can’t keep doing this alone." Ayaan looked at him. "I have to." The intercom buzzed. "Sir, there’s a woman here to see you. No appointment. She says it’s about the USB." Ayaan froze. USB. Only one person had that USB. "Name?" Ayaan asked, voice steady. "Aayat Khan." The cup in his hand cracked. --- Aayat stood in the lobby, wearing a simple white kurta and jeans. She looked smaller than he remembered. Tired. But her eyes... her eyes were still fire. Ayaan came down alone. No guards. "Aayat," he said. She looked up. And for a second, the last 2 years disappeared. "Ayaan," she said. They stared at each other. In a lobby full of people, it was just them. "You’re alive," she said. "You’re here," he replied. "Can we talk? Somewhere private." Ayaan nodded. "My office. 50th floor." The elevator was silent. Too silent. Ayaan stood on one side. Aayat on the other. He wanted to touch her. To ask where she’d been. If she was okay. Faceless couldn’t do that. Ayaan Malik wouldn’t. The doors opened. His office was all glass and steel. Cold. Like him. "Talk," Ayaan said. Aayat took a deep breath. "They found me. The company. The one from the USB." Ayaan’s jaw tightened. "How?" "I don’t know. 2 days ago. Men followed me home. I ran. I didn’t know where else to go." "Why me? Why not the police?" "Because you’re the only one who ever stopped them before." She looked at him. "Because you’re Faceless." The word hung between them. Ayaan walked to the window. "I’m not him anymore." "Bullshit," Aayat said. And he turned. "You are. I saw the news. Warehouse 9. 4 AM. That was you." Ayaan didn’t deny it. Aayat stepped closer. "I’m scared, Ayaan. For the first time in my life, I’m really scared." And then she broke. Not loud. Just one tear. Then another. Ayaan’s chest hurt. He hadn’t felt that in years. He handed her a tissue. His hand brushed hers. Electric. "I can protect you," he said quietly. "But you have to stay here. In the tower. With security." "I can’t hide forever." "You can for now." He looked at her. Really looked. "You look tired." "I haven’t slept in 2 days." "Then sleep." He gestured to the couch in his office. "Here. Safe." Aayat hesitated. Then nodded. She was exhausted. She lay down. Within minutes she was asleep. Ayaan watched her. The girl who saw his face and didn’t run. The girl who knew his secret and kept it. His phone buzzed. Hamza. *Boss, we have a problem. The men from Warehouse 9. They were talking. They said "the boss wants Faceless. And the girl."* Ayaan closed his eyes. It had started again. He looked at Aayat, sleeping peacefully on his couch. For the first time in 2 years, Ayaan Malik made a decision that wasn’t about business. He picked up the mask from his drawer. Black. Faceless. But before he put it on, he did something he hadn’t done in years. He touched her hair. Just once. "Sleep," he whispered. "I’ll be back." Then he left. To become the ghost again. Because if they wanted Aayat, They’d have to go through him first. --- ### End of Chapter 1
