Breaking Point
The rain didn’t stop that night.
It poured like the sky had been holding back tears for years, just like Tania.
She stood by the window of her apartment in Port Harcourt, arms wrapped around herself, staring at the blurred streetlights outside. The world looked distorted… like her life.
Her phone buzzed again.
She didn’t need to check.
But she did anyway.
Ethan ❤️
Her husband.
The man she had built her whole life around.
Slowly, she picked up.
“Hello?”
“Tania…” His voice came in low, almost cautious. “Please don’t hang up.”
She let out a quiet, bitter laugh. “Then don’t lie.”
Silence.
Her jaw tightened. “You have one chance to explain why another woman is wearing your shirt and posting it like a trophy.”
“Tania, it’s not what it looks like—”
“Stop.” Her voice cut through his like glass. “I’m tired, Ethan. I am so tired of believing you.”
Another pause.
And then… the truth slipped out.
“I didn’t mean for it to happen.”
That was it.
That was the moment everything inside her cracked.
Her fingers trembled around the phone. “So it happened?”
He exhaled. “I was going to tell you”
“When?” she snapped. “After our anniversary? After I gave you everything I had left of me?”
The rain grew louder, hitting the windows like a warning.
“I trusted you,” she said, her voice dropping. “I defended you. I chose you every single time.”
“I still love you,” Ethan said quickly, almost desperately.
Tania closed her eyes, tears slipping down her cheeks.
“No,” she whispered. “You loved my loyalty. You loved my patience. But you never truly loved me.”
Silence.
Heavy. Final.
And without another word, she ended the call.
The room felt too big.
Too empty.
Tania slowly slid to the floor, her back against the wall, her body shaking as everything she had been holding in finally spilled out.
This wasn’t supposed to be her story.
She had done everything right.
She stayed when things got hard. She forgave when it hurt. She believed when everyone else would have walked away.
So why was she the one left broken?
Her gaze drifted to the mirror across the room.
For a long time, she just stared.
“Who are you?” she whispered.
The woman staring back looked unfamiliar.
Not because she had changed
But because she had lost herself trying to keep someone else.
Morning came with noise, but inside Tania… there was silence.
A deep, unsettling silence.
She sat on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone.
No calls.
No messages.
No “I’m sorry.”
She gave a dry smile. “Of course.”
Standing up slowly, she walked to her wardrobe. Her fingers brushed past dresses Ethan once loved, clothes she wore just to make him look at her a little longer.
Today?
None of that mattered.
She chose something simple.
Plain.
Real.
For the first time in a long time… she wasn’t dressing for him.
She was just Tania.
As she stepped outside, the cool morning air hit her skin.
She paused.
Closed her eyes.
And in that quiet moment… something shifted.
Not healing.
Not yet.
But something small.
Something strong.
You will survive this.
Her eyes opened, sharper now.
Maybe her marriage was falling apart.
Maybe love had betrayed her.
But deep inside, there was something Ethan couldn’t touch.
Something he didn’t break.
Her faith.
