14. I'm sorry

“WAIT!!!” I screamed whilst I sprinted down the driveway. “STOP THE CAR!!!”

I couldn’t run at full speed and shout at the same time. I knew that the driver couldn’t see me or hear me. There was only one thing I could do. I had to shift.

As I ran I started to slowly take my armour off and drop it on the ground. I dropped all my hidden swords and let Estrid take over. Instead of my feet I saw paws and everything passed me a lot faster. In one leap Estrid jumped on the car and started swatting her paw at the windows.

The car finally stopped down the driveway and Naomi got out of it panicked. She must have thought Estrid was attacking her.

“You can’t leave, not yet” I mind linked her. I knew I could still do it in my wolf form and since Alex was the Alpha she had Alpha blood running through her.

“How are you doing that?” she questioned in a panic.

Estrid jumped from the car and started to shift. I had no clothes on and i was slowly running out of breath. The rush of adrenaline was exactly what I needed but I wasn’t expecting that.

“Naomi… phewww…. You can’t leave” I said.

“Mother please, the Elders are expecting me tomorrow morning and Alex is okay with me leaving. There is nothing else left for me here. Dark Shade is a good pack who takes on abandoned wolves I’m proud to have been a part of it. But I can’t stay I have to leave” she stated.

I was bent over with arms on my thighs trying to get some air into my lungs.

“What about your mate?” I asked looking up at her.

“I don’t have a mate” she said defensively.

 Maybe she was like me. Maybe her sword was her whole life, but at the same time maybe I might have jumped the gun a little. “I have looked for my mate since I turned 18. We have moved around the country quite a lot so I would have met him already” I heard a different tone in her voice. She was sad, tired even. That was why she was sacrificing herself for Dark Shade, she had nothing left, only her skills.

I heard people running behind me and they finally caught up with me and Naomi. I turned around and I saw Kilian, Alex, Francis and three of my Daughters. I faced Naomi and placed both of my palms on her shoulders, I swiftly pushed her forward towards them.

“I think you are wrong Naomi” I walked with her towards Francis.

I slowed down and I heard her heartbeat quicken, I was right she was his mate and in that moment she realised it.  

Naomi POV:

When Felicity pushed me towards my brother I didn’t know what she was doing . We agreed that I would leave with no tears wasted. But he wasn’t the one that got my attention.

Ria started howling in my head at the sight of the man standing next to my brother. She was a quiet wolf who only came out whenever she needed to fight or needed to go for a run. I thought she hated me for giving up on finding a mate but I really did try to find him. I wanted my happiness, I wanted to be somebody’s happily ever after. But those things only happen in fairy tales. I lost my parents to hunters; my pack was weak and I gave up my life to be a warrior for the Elders.  There was no way that he could be my mate, too little too late.

Moon Goddess had other ideas, Ria started panting in my head at the sight of the muscular God-like man in front of us. His obsidian dark hair faded on the side and the top falling on his face from running towards the car.

“Mate” I whispered quietly as I stood a few feet in front of him.

His hands made their way to his head and he fell to his knees in pain. Surely he couldn’t hear all I just thought. I ran over to him cupping his face making him look directly at me. However, he shut them from the pain his forehead dropping on my shoulder.

“What’s wrong with him?” I screamed. I didn’t even know who he was but I knew I needed to help him. I couldn’t leave knowing he was in pain.

“His wolf is hidden; you have the power to release him” Felicity said in my mind.

“I don’t even know your name, who are you?” I asked him, making him look at me again. Only to be met with black eyes, it wasn’t lust or hatred, it wasn’t even love. It looked like a wolf waking up for the first time. I had to calm him down. If the wolf was hidden he could cause the human counterpart to have a heart attack from the sudden rise in hormones. I did the only thing I could. I kissed him.

As my soft lips crashed against his I felt a fire awaken within me. A fire that I was missing my whole life, heat that I thought died years ago. I needed to taste him more  and I knew he felt the same way. I sensed his palms on my hips and his breathing quicken. I cupped his face tougher and released his lips so I could breathe. I head Ria whimper in sadness as she wanted to kiss him again.

“What’s your name?” I asked again.

“My name is….” a harsh voice came out from his gorgeous face. “It’s ….. Levi” he finally opened his eyes and his blue pools saw right through me.

“Levi…” I met his forehead with mine. “Hebrew for harmony” I chuckled at my comment.

His eyes blinked again but they had a softer feel to them. I knew I was just talking to his wolf. He was powerful just like Mother Fury.

“Hi” he said in a softer voice.

“Hi” I answered.

The man in front of me, my mate looked around and his eyes darted to the ground as soon as he saw Mother Fury.

“Ummm, sis, do you mind?” he asked. Quickly she grabbed a coat from Alex and wrapped herself in it. Sis, as in sister, dis that mean he was a Royal just like her?

I turned my head back to him and stood back up. He was still on his knees from the pain he felt before his wolf came out.

“Sorry about that, my name is Francis” he stepped towards me and stroked my face with the back of his hand. I didn’t realise how tall he actually was until then.

“Naomi” I said.

His lips crashed against mine again and I felt myself wanting more, I opened my mouth letting his tongue in. I pressed my body against his and we fit like a puzzle. He was the only missing piece in my life. I felt his chest moving next to mine.

“Sorry I can’t” I moved back and grabbed my sword. I knew I would break his heart but I was sworn in as a soldier. “I have to go to the Elders”.

Fury came up to me and grabbed my shoulders again. I knew why they called her Fury but I have never been so scared of another person in my life.

“Listen to me, the Elders are the ones who are killing packs” she spat.

“Do you have any proof? How can I believe you?” I shouted back.

She stood in silence before talking again. “I have been in your shoes. I served the Elders and they do nothing but take. They will take your skills and use them against wolves. Your pack will disappear. There is a war coming and you will be on the wrong side” she looked back at Francis who was standing shocked.

“Listen, I sacrificed myself for a pack once and it wasn’t worth it. I know what it’s like to train your whole life to fight for what you think is right. But leaving your mate behind is the worst pain of all. Your wolf will never forgive you. Please just listen and stay here” she moved her hands from my shoulder to mine.

“I can’t” I said softly. “This is not the way I wanted to leave but I have to. Like I said there is nothing left for me here” I moved past Fury and walked over to Francis. “I wish you all the treasures of the world. I wish you a long and happy life….. but I can’t be part of it. I’m sorry” I kissed his cheek and walked back to the car.
