Alphas Power Control

“Congratulations, honey! I heard you got one of the pack training spots,” my mother said excitedly. I guess she didn’t know exactly how I got the position. If she did, she wouldn’t be so happy. News travels fast when your father’s the Beta. He gets pack news quickly. I grabbed a soda from the fridge and sat down at the kitchen table. I had about thirty minutes before I had to leave and pick up Max. I came home to drop off my books and stuff from school. “Your father is very proud of you, and you impressed Alpha Derek,” My mother gushed. “Uh, thanks, mom. I may be late for dinner tonight,” I said. “That’s fine; I will save you a plate. Are you hanging out with the girls?” she giggled. My mother loved to talk about girl stuff, and with all the new mates running around, I’m sure she couldn’t wait to hear all about it from me. She thinks when I hang out with the girls, we gossip.  “No, actually, I’m showing max around town,” I said. She stopped peeling her potatoes and looked up at me. She had a little smile forming on her lips as she said, “Who’s Max?” “Kyle’s mate Renee’s’ twin brother, he is most likely going to be joining our pack,” I said, shrugging my shoulders. “Oh yes, I heard about him. He is the one who lost his mate. How sad to lose the one you are to spend the rest of your life with before you ever really got a chance,” She said. “Yes, it is. I think it may be the reason he moved here. Maybe he wants a fresh start,” I shrugged. “Have fun,” my mother said as she went back to peeling her potatoes. I headed out a little early. My father is always getting on me for not visiting, so I might as well make him happy. Within minutes, I parked outside the packhouse. It’s a mansion and has about fifteen bedrooms. Some pack stayed here, while others had their own houses. Some younger kids were playing outside, chasing each other around and playing on the swing set. It reminded me of when I was younger and we lived in this same house. My parents had bought their own when I was about ten and my brother fourteen. My brother Matt is away at college with Alpha Stevens’s son, and I missed him. He hasn’t been home since Christmas. I went inside and walked down the hall. The movie room is on the left, and I noticed Kyle, Renee, Tyler, and Mandy are watching the new Fast and Furious with The Rock. I’ve watched it at least ten times. “Look who dropped by for a visit,” Tyler said as he swung around in the seat to look at me. “I figured I haven’t been here in a while, and I’m picking up Max,” I said. “Max huh?” Mandy teased. I rolled my eyes, “I’m just showing him around town,” “Oh, I bet you are,” Tyler joked. The air around me felt electrified, and I knew Derek was nearby. “Isabella, just the person I wanted to see. I need to go over a training schedule with you,” Derek said from behind me, making my body shiver as he said my name. Truthfully, I didn’t want to be around him, but that’s what I get for challenging him. I am stuck working with him on training, at least until he leaves. “I could stop over tomorrow, and we can go over it then,” I said, turning around to face him, just as Max came through the doorway. “Izzy, I’m glad you’re here. I thought for sure you would stand me up at the last minute.” Max joked. “Of course not, it’s going to be fun,” I said “Sounds like you two have a date you are going to have to cancel,” Derek said. “Did I miss something here?” Max asked, looking from Derek to me. “No. Derek needs my help to plan out training, and I told him I would be available tomorrow,” I said as I walked towards the door to leave. “It’s Alpha Derek, and I didn’t give you a choice,” Derek blocked my exit. Everyone was watching our little exchange. They now turned the movie off and sat turned in their seats. I didn’t understand why he was always such an ass to me. “It’s ok Izzy, we could always go tomorrow,” Max said. Derek immediately turned towards him, looking him up and down. If looks could kill, Max would be a goner. But Max held his ground. He didn’t move, but he flinched. “Sorry to break it to you, but she’s going to busy the next few days,” Derek growled.  Melly and Brad stood in the front looking at us, trying to figure out what was going on. I didn’t miss the look on Melly’s face and knew I would hear from her later. “Listen, Alpha Derek, I have plans today. I told you, I’m available tomorrow to help you. You should have asked me before I made plans,” I said sweetly. “I need not make a damn reservation! If I say jump, you say how high. I am the Alpha here, and you need to respect that,” Derek bitterly said. I couldn’t help it, I started laughing. Who the hell did he think he was, anyway? “Your Mate,” my wolf said to me. My laughing only made him angrier. His eyes reflected his cold black stare, as he said." What do you think is so funny?" He moved closer until we were just inches away. I held his gaze, determined not to let him win. I don’t know why I pushed him so much, or why he hated me for that matter. I’m glad he didn’t know that I’m his mate; I didn’t want a mate that tried to bully me, anyway. “You push him, and you better be careful. You’re challenging him again. He will see right through you if his wolf doesn’t first,” “Alpha calm down. We can work on whatever it is tomorrow,” Brad said, trying to pull him back. “What is going on here?” I heard my father, his voice filling the small area. As soon as he saw Derek he bowed his head. Alpha Stevens stood next to him and both looked as if they were awaiting an explanation. Just great, surely they would take his side. He’s the Head of The Council, for f**k’s sake. I’m doomed. Maybe it’s the Goddess herself, trying to reel me in further. She was surely punishing me for evading my mate. “Izzy, I could hear you down the hall. What is going on?” My father asked me again. “Max is new here, so I told him I could show him around today. Alpha Derek, however, says I can’t. He wants me to work on a training plan with him. I told him I could help him tomorrow since I had made plans already for today. It’s rude to break plans at the last minute,” I pleaded. Alpha Stevens looked from me to Derek in thought. I was sure I would be in deep trouble. I would never hear the end. My father would say I shamed him and my mother. “I thought you were planning to visit Sundown Pack today to look for your mate?” Alpha Stevens finally said, surprising me. I had to admit; I didn’t expect that. Alpha Stevens is generally firm when it came to respect. He’s around my father’s age; they grew up together much as my brother and the Alpha’s son Alex did. Once they graduate, they will take over the pack as the new Alpha and Beta. Alex was laxer in some rules, but I always assumed it was because he was younger. Alpha Stevens is a good Alpha, though. I’m curious why he would call Derek out like that. “Finding your mate is the most important thing right now. You can work on a training plan tomorrow,” Brad, his Beta interjected. Derek’s eyes are so dark and cold it makes me shiver. He stepped in front of Alpha Stevens, making him flinch back. I know his wolf is just under the surface trying to get out. He’s not taking it lightly; they were trying to tell him what he should do. I needed to stop him now before he ripped Alpha Stevens apart. I reached over and grabbed him by the arm, “Der... er Alpha Derek, Let’s just go over your plan now,” I said, ignoring the tingling feeling running up my arms. He turned towards me, and his eyes lightened somewhat to their normal color, and said, “No. Tomorrow is fine. I will see you at four p.m. sharp,” He then walked out of the room, leaving us all staring.       “Izzy, may I speak with you a moment? I was coming down to congratulate you on making pack Trainer,” Alpha Stevens smiled warmly at me.     I just nodded my head and followed him into his office. My father followed, but Alpha Stevens told him to stay back.  I took a seat on the black little leather sofa in the corner. Alpha Stevens shut the door behind him and sat caddy-corner from me in a chair. “I’m sorry I haven’t visited lately, Alpha,” I said, trying to lighten the mood. I wasn’t sure why he brought me here, but I knew I could be in trouble. “Well, hopefully now that you are helping with the training you will be around here more. I am very proud of you, Izzy. I always knew you were an excellent fighter, just like your father,” He gave me a genuine smile, and it put me at ease a bit.        “Thank you, Alpha. It’s an honor to help train our pack,” I said. “I’m curious about a few things, though,” He said. I didn’t know what he was going to say, so I just sat there and waited for him to continue, “A few of the pack members told me about your challenging Alpha Derek at school today, then there’s the incident just now. I admit I stood listening long before I made myself present,” He said        I lowered my head down in shame and respect. I didn’t mean to embarrass him or our pack. I had no right to disrespect Derek, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disrespect him and shame our pack,” I said.  “Izzy, I’m not upset. It seems he is a little jealous of Max, and then you could calm him down a while ago. I know you haven’t found your mate, and I’m thinking you are the mate of a powerful Alpha. Alpha Derek is the highest Alpha, but your ability to challenge him is proof you will hold a high title. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought he was your mate, but maybe another council member is,” He said. I froze. I didn’t know what to say. Lying to my Alpha isn’t exactly something I normally did. One lie was just turning in to one after another. “I know it’s a lot to take in. I would like to ask Derek about other unmated Alphas on the council. Max’s grandfather is a member of the Council as well. Since Max lost his mate, he will eventually get a new one,” He said mostly to himself it seemed. “Max is not my mate,” I said. He thought I was Max’s second chance mate. “That may be, but he seems attracted to you. Max is a candidate to take over for his grandfather on the Council,” He said. “I didn’t know Max is an Alpha,” I said. “His father is still running the pack since Max is still in school.,” Alpha Stevens said. “But I thought there is not usually over one Alpha a State on the Council,” I said. “Not generally, no. Alpha Derek is from a powerful bloodline, and he holds the highest seat. It’s the others below him that rarely have more than one a State. Most states don’t have a representative on the Council as they reserve it for only the most powerful. Either way, technically Max would be in England with his Grandfathers pack. Max could tell you the story of how that happened. But basically, Max’s father refused to take over the pack in England and the Council seat, so it is up to Max now if he wants to. What I’m getting at here is Max may be your mate. It’s obvious you like one another, and it may be the Goddess has not activated the bond yet,” He said. “Alpha Stevens, Max is not my mate,” I said again. “Dear, you know that every unmated wolf in this State was at that dance and even some Alphas from other States. I realize your mate can only be a Council member or Max who has lost his mate and is waiting for a second mate. There is the option your mate is dead, but I don’t think so, not after seeing you in action,” He chuckled. I debated on telling him the truth. I couldn’t have him and my father bringing in all the damn Council to see if they are my mate. “I sense you are struggling with something. Just know that it is rare to have a mate die before the bonding. I don’t know how long the Goddess takes to decide on a new mate. She may wait to see what Max’s decision will be. He has until his graduation to decide if he will take over his father’s pack or his Grandfathers. No matter, you exert a lot of power. There are even times I can feel it and am taken aback. You also have had complete control of your wolf, and that is very rare. I’m not sure if even Derek has that much control over his,” He said. I decided. I may regret it, but it felt right, “Alpha Stevens, I would like to ask for your complete confidence and wish to use the Omerta. Will you agree?” I asked.        The Omerta is rare, but it meant if he agreed he would hear what I had to say and keep silent. He smiled and looked intrigued. I can’t lie to My Alpha. Call me a coward, but it just seemed wrong.   “Very well dear, I Alpha Stevens do promise to hold the code of the Omerta sacred, and what you say to me stays between us. I will tell no one unless I am instructed to by you, as you have invoked the Omerta, and I have agreed,” He said. He didn’t have to agree to the Omerta, honestly; I have never used it, but I was aware of it. The other person always has a choice to accept the silence or not. I’m happy he accepted. It needs to get it off my chest. “Thank you, Alpha,” I said. “I admit. I am most curious, and proud you thought of the code. Many forget of it and its value,” He said.           “I met my mate at the dance. I was just going to reject him, but a friend gave me a potion that would mask my scent. I fled the dance, and he did not understand where I went,” I said.   “Oh my. I see where this is going; your father always said you wanted to fall in love without the interference of the mating bond. Maria always envied you for that, though she thought you had no chance,” He chuckled. Maria is my Luna and his wife       “Well, then the Big Bad Alpha searched high and low for me and came to our pack. I went to a Witch who gave me a Necklace to mask my scent and stop him from feeling any effects of our bond if he touched me,” I continued. “This is great. I love it! Please continue dear,” He smiled. “It seems you have already guessed, but Alpha Derek is my mate,” I finished. “I know I should scold you, but honestly I admire that you wanted to control your destiny. What is most interesting, is Alpha Derek is struggling with finding his mate, and his developing feelings for you. His Beta even asked me if I would send you to visit your brother. It worried him his Alpha would forgo his search for his Mate. My question to you though, is since you know he’s drawn to you, will you give him a chance?” Alpha Stevens asked. “He’s not attracted to me; he’s an ass to me. He is always in my face and acting all High and Mighty. I much rather think he despises me,” I sighed. “I can see why you asked for the Omerta. Your father would lose his head. It also saves me from bringing in every single Council member. Your father, however, is aware that you are the mate of a council member as he knows that is the only explanation. He too wondered if it was Derek, but we both know Derek would know if you were his mate. But the magic part just takes the cake. You are aware he can do magic right?” He placed his hands on his stomach, leaned back, and laughed. “At first, no, but the Witch saw and informed me later that he was,” I said. “If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of vision?” He asked. “She said that I would fall in love,” I said. “Well then, that’s all I need to know. I will not share this with anyone, and if you ever feel the need to talk about it, I am here. I will only say one thing more. They will force Alpha Derek to step down if he does not find his mate by this year or take another mate. Whatever you do, make sure you think first because it is permanent. If he takes another mate, you will lose him forever, and if he steps down well, then he may not be able to reclaim the title again. If he takes another mate, she must be a high rank,” He said. He hugged me and I thanked him, happy to have the truth out, at least to him. I’m surprised he didn’t scold me.
