New Trainer

“I look forward to working with all of you. Bear with me, as there are so many of you, but we will figure out groups and scheduling once I meet with you guys later. This class will give you full credit in your electives rather than half. I look forward to seeing you all today,” He said as his eyes slowly rested on me. I’m stuck because today is one of my full days. I still didn’t know how they would make this work with so many students. How was he going to have a class with over twenty students?  I looked around the auditorium. It seemed as if only the seniors were here.  It was finally lunch, and I wished it was one of my half days. The good thing was I would finally get to eat lunch with all my friends, but I didn’t look forward to seeing Derek afterward. I grabbed a slice of pizza and a fruit punch and headed to our usual table. The guys were pushing another table against it. “We need more room now,” Kyle said. “I was wondering if you guys were going to show up,” I said, setting my tray down on the now long table. “We had to meet with the counselor and get our schedules this morning,” Max said. “So can someone tell me about this new class?” Mandy said, walking up. I was happy to see her after a week. “Sure, the seniors will take the class. All the other students will still keep their second and first lunch schedules,” Melly said. “I meant, who is teaching it, and why?” Mandy opened her chocolate milk and took a drink. I suddenly wished I could bury myself in a hole. I had so much to fill Mandy in on. She didn’t even know that he was an Alpha, let alone on the Council and my mate. Kyle was giving me a look, and I shot him right back, telling him he better not. The fewer people that knew about who Derek was to me, the better. I didn’t want to take a chance he would find out. I could tell Tyler was filling her in as they were having a private conversation through their link. I was glad Tyler didn’t know Derek was my mate. “Where did you get that necklace?” Brad Melly’s mate asked me. I usually kept it hidden under my shirt, so it must have somehow come out. I didn’t think he could recognize it as coming from a witch, but it made me nervous. “I gave it to her as a Birthday present,” A familiar voice suddenly said. I turned around and there stood Sabrina. I stood up and hugged her. Melly’s face was white as a ghost. She then turned and hugged Melly. “I got moved over to this lunch today,” She said excitedly. Brad, however, was eyeing her carefully. Before he opened his mouth to speak Sabrina said, “Yes I am. Do you got a problem with that?” “No, I was just surprised. It’s exquisite. Alp... er, Derek’s mother is Keltic, and I recognized the symbol, I’m sorry.” Brad said as he turned away from her. I was nervous. I didn’t know what exchanged between the two of them. I made a mental note to ask her later. Somehow Brad recognized my necklace, and I didn’t know if he knew she was a witch. I didn’t want Derek knowing anything about this. “I was wondering if you might show me around later,” Max asked me, bringing me back to reality. “Sure, what time. I could swing by and pick you up if you like.” I said. Instead, he grabbed my cell phone off the table and punched in his number and name. I forgot I took my password off it after I locked myself out a few times. He then took out his cell, and it vibrated with my number. “I will call you. I don’t know how long my dad will be here for.” He grinned. “Dude, that wasn’t even original,” Brian said, rolling his eyes, making everyone laugh. After lunch was over, Sabrina began walking alongside me. “My mom would like you to come to visit her later,” She whispered. “Sure, I will come right after school,” I said. We walked on in silence to the field outside. I steadied myself for what was about to come. I needed to gain control of my wolf, as she would be ready to pounce as soon as she saw Derek. I could hear a snarl in my mind and knew she had read my mind. I noticed everyone seated in the bleachers, so I climbed to the top and took a seat. I hoped I would slip from his notice.  From my distance, I could control myself more. I can’t help but feel attracted to him; though, I know it was all from the pull, and not me. Max took a seat next to me as the others began piling in as well. I could hear them all talking around me, but I tuned it out, concentrating on the hunk of man that stood before me. Either I’m imagining things, or he doesn’t have a shirt on. His chest is toned and tanned. He sniffed the air, and after a minute his face turned into a frown. Derek was making sure that none of the girls in the school was his mate, including the human ones. A sadness passed over his face briefly as he combed the stadium with his eyes. “Today I’m going to let you pair off in groups of two. Today will be ladies’ choice. Ladies, please pick one male to partner with today. You have three minutes,” Derek said. So now was my dilemma. Max looked at me expectantly, and Brian began heading my way. I knew we would fight, and so I chose Max. I needed a wolf to pair with because I was one of the strongest fighters in our pack. My father, being Beta, made sure of that. Brian’s face fell, and I immediately felt bad. I sent him a text, “Sorry, he’s new and doesn’t know anyone, you know I would have chosen you.” He read the text and gave me a sloppy smile as a girl wrapped her arms around him possessively. I was sure it was one of the many girls he dated. I rolled my eyes and headed down to the field with Max. “Alright, the first thing we are going to do is I want the guys to grab the ladies from behind. Ladies, it will be your job to maneuver out of their hold. Brad and Melly, please show them,” he shouted. Brad grabbed Melly from behind, and she spun around and pushing him backward. Cheers erupted from the crowd. This looked stupid to me, but I guess I’m stuck with it. We all began doing as he said, then he added moves to it. About thirty minutes later, he began tapping pairs on the shoulders and letting them go. I looked around and noticed the humans gone. “Now, the real fun begins.” He said, smiling. “Repeat what we did earlier, but this time, I want you to go into offensive mode.” He said. Max grabbed me from behind, and for a moment, I didn’t move. Then I swung around and threw him across the field. He jumped up quickly and came back at me, but I rounded a kick to his stomach. I then placed my foot on his stomach as in saying game over. But he grabbed my foot, making me lose balance and falling on top of him. I could feel his breath on my face. “Guess I win.” He whispered. “What is this?” Derek shouted at us in his Alpha tone, making me jump up quickly. “He... I...” I stuttered. Damn him for being sexy when he yelled. My wolf began chuckling in my head. It mortified me everyone was now staring at us. “I said to kick his ass, not make out with him!” Derek shouted. “We weren’t making out,” I yelled as I crossed my arms over my chest. “You allowed him to pull you down, and then you were gazing into his eyes like a lovesick puppy!” He shouted. That’s it.! I wouldn’t stand here and let him call me a lovesick puppy. I will teach him a lesson. If he thought I was weak, I was going to show him; I am not. “I’m not a lovesick puppy, and if you think you’re so bad Alpha Derek, then why don’t you come to get your ass kicked,” I said, stepping up to him. I hear whispering amongst the now gathered crowd. They were in shock, I even dared talk to him like that.  Max jumped in front of me as if he was going to protect me from the now angry Alpha who stood before us, “I’m sure she didn’t mean it, she’s just embarrassed,” Max said. Melly pushed Brad forward to get him to intervene. His face contorts with shock and confusion. Derek pushed Max to the side as if he was nothing but a feather and stood before me. His eyes are as dark as night, and I know his wolf lurked below. “You’re exerting your power, and you just used an Alpha tone on him. You are going to lose this battle,” my wolf said to me. “Do you know who I am, Isabella? Since when do you ever think you can challenge me? You want to play, we can play, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Derek said as he took off his shirt, making me catch my breath.  Damn, he had just put it back on too. Well, I surely wasn’t taking off my shirt, I joked to myself. I readied myself for the attack I knew would come. He walked around me once, then grabbed me from behind. My entire body was on fire. How the hell was I going to fight him when all I wanted to do was melt right there. “Don’t just stand there.” He whispered, making my wolf whimper. I crouched down and used all my strength to pull him with me and flipped him over on top of me. I then stood up and readied for his next move. He stood up off the ground, with a smirk on his face, as he eyed me plotting his next move. He leaped up and went to tackle me down, but I dodged him, making him face plant into the ground. I stifled a laugh and made my move. I jumped up and rounded my foot to his face, but he swatted it away with his arm, and I fell to the ground with a thud.  That hurt, but not enough to stop me. I quickly jumped up and went into defense mode. He flipped in the air and landed in front of me. His eyes raked over me, making me shiver. “You’re going to have to do better than that,” He said, sending shivers down my spine. “Oh, I will,” I said as I pulled his legs out from underneath him. He landed on the ground in a thud. I stood over top of him and bent down over him, my feet on his sides. Yanking him up, I threw him across the field. Not wanting to lose momentum, I quickly ran and kicked him in his chest as he tried to regain his composure. He is toying with me, I can tell, but I didn’t care. I began kicking and punching in rapid succession as he pushed them all off. He yanked my arm just as I was trying to punch his jaw and pulled me to his chest. My breath caught in my throat as I stared into his eyes. “You have proven your point and won a spot as a trainer. From here on out, you will be my partner.” He said out loud, “Just so you know you stood no chance against me. If I wanted to hurt you, I would have. I would be very careful from here on out about challenging me. The next time I will take it seriously. Do you understand me, Isabella?” He whispered. I couldn’t speak, so I only nodded my head. I would not back down, but I knew he was not putting his all into it. Challenging him in front of everyone was stupid of me. “Don’t make me regret not kicking your ass in front of everyone. You challenged me, and you don’t challenge an Alpha, even if it is in class. I don’t take to fighting girls, but I don’t take to challenge either.” He said, then let me go. I sat down and tried to catch my breath. Max ran over to me, “What were you thinking? You are lucky he didn’t take that seriously. He could have hurt you badly,”  “Well, that was something,” Brad said. “It’s stupid. You can’t go around challenging an Alpha,” Melly scolded me. ******* Thankfully the bell rung, signaling it was time to go to our next class. “Hello, darling. Come on in,” Kathy said as she held open the door. “Thank you,” I said as I followed her in. “So I heard your Alpha is in town,” Kathy asked, jumping straight to the point, making me laugh. “He’s not my Alpha, but yes, he is here now, getting on my last nerve,” I said, rolling my eyes. “So tell me about it. How has he been acting, has the necklace worked?” She said. So I told her all about Alpha Derek. Even about my challenging him. “His Beta said Alpha Derek’s mother is Keltic, and of course, he recognized me as a Wiccan.” Sabrina threw in. “Dear, must you really prefer to yourself as a Wiccan?” Kathy asked her daughter. “Yes mother, it’s how we refer to ourselves, you know in the modern times. We don’t say witch anymore.” Sabrina replied, rolling her eyes as if her mother was not hip to the times. “Honey, you were born this way. Those who generally call themselves Wiccan have learned the craft later in life,” Kathy said. “I didn’t know there was a difference,” I said, confused. “There are two types that practice the craft, those who inherit it from generation to generation like us, and those who learn it, though some that learn it have ancestors who practiced the craft, but not all. Our magic is more powerful and older. It is much like those that are born as werewolves and those who got bitten. Those that are born are generally more powerful than a changed werewolf.” Kathy explained. That was true. In most cases, a changed wolf would not be as strong as a born one. Though there are some cases when the bite is from an Alpha who changes his mate, she inherits some of his power. “I wish to talk more about your Alpha but first let me ask you, are you familiar with the story of the first werewolf and why it happened?” She asked me. “You mean the story of God, who was angry that the Moon Goddess Selene didn’t want to be with him, so he turned her child into a wolf?” I asked her. “Yes. There is more to it than that, but yes. The Keltic people were very magical people, many of them skilled in the craft, and also children of the Moon Goddess and the God of the Underworld. When the first werewolf was made it was the druids who taught him how to switch between his human and wolf form. Many stories have the druids as actually being the first werewolves, though I am not sure of that. Perhaps your pack library could help you with that, though I suspect few books exist that tell that story.” She said. “Anyway, the moon Goddess, seeing him lonely, made a mate for him. And they said from there on out every werewolf to have a mate, made just for him or her.” Kathy said. “I didn’t know it was the Keltic druids that showed them,” I said. “Yes, they taught them how to control their beasts better, and embrace their human side. That is why the dance, in which all unmated Werewolves come together to find their mate, is on Samhain.” She said. “So did the wolves and witches ever mate?” I asked. “That’s a good question; essentially we were both created by the same Goddess. The answer would be yes, though rarely. There usually isn’t more than one bloodline like that at once, because it is so powerful. I have heard of it happening a few times throughout history, though there is only one bloodline in existence today.” She said. “So would that mean they could use magic and shift?” I asked her, intrigued. “Yes, they can.” She simply said. I  felt sick, realizing where this conversation was heading. I just knew that Alpha Derek’s family was the bloodline she was referring to. If Brad told him of the necklace, he would surely tell Derek. I wasn’t even sure if Derek had seen my necklace. Did my necklace look like a witch’s, or did he just recognize the Keltic designs on it, I wondered? “Don’t worry about Brad. He may know what I am, but I made him believe you didn’t. He believes I gave you the necklace for a present.” Sabrina said, seeing my worried face. “So it’s true then Alpha Derek’s family is the mixed bloodline?” I asked. “Yes. The necklace is not generally one that holds any magic, though. So he will not suspect it is masking your scent. However, if he was to ever somehow come into possession with it, he could figure it out. If that happened, he would already know you were his mate.” Kathy said. I felt like I wanted to pass out; I wasn’t even sure how I was going to pull this off now. “What about your vision? You said I would get to fall in love?” I asked her. “I stand by that, you will fall in love, I just wanted you to know, so you could be careful with the necklace. Do not take it off. As long as it is on your neck he cannot tell it has magic in it. Even if he somehow sees it, just stick to the story you got it as a present, as you loved the design.” Kathy said. ,
