Alphas Teach

There are so many choices available. I decided on Barbecue Ribs, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and macaroni N cheese. At the end of the table, I spot the pizza. I could never resist the pizza. Grabbing a soda, I headed towards the table where Kyle and Renee are sitting. “Where’s Melly at? I thought you guys rode together.” Kyle asked me as I sat my plate down. “She’s helping that Alpha,” I said, shrugging. He gave me a look, knowing damn well that Alpha is my mate. I turned towards Renee and asked her questions about what grade she was in and about her old pack. She’s a twelfth grader, just like us. Her brother is as well. They are twins, but not identical. I thought it was cool. I feel goosebumps up and down my arms. When I look up, I see Alpha Derek. He’s standing about three feet away and looking right at me. Melly is standing next to him, talking to a guy. I assume it’s her mate. They start to walk towards us, and I busy myself eating food. “Guys, I want to introduce you to my mate, Brad. He’s Alpha Derek’s Beta," Melly gushed as she sat down. Everyone welcomed him. “Alpha Derek, I didn’t know you were coming here. I take it you have had no luck with your missing mate,” Max said to Derek. “No, and though this is an enormous pack, it seems there are only a few unmated females that could be my mate,” Derek said “We have a bunch of unmated females. I am sure there are at least twenty, if not more,” I said to him. “Yes, that may be true, but my mate would at least be eighteen. So that narrows it down quite a bit,” Derek answered back. I kept quiet after that until I heard Max say my name. “You don’t have a mate yet, Izzy?” He asked me, almost making me choke on my ribs. “No. I am thinking my mate must be in some other State or Country even,” I said, avoiding eye contact. “That’s odd; generally, your mate will be in the same State. All the unmated attended the dance this year from this State,” Derek studied me with his smoldering eyes. “Well, I’m not sure where mine is then,” I shrugged. “I know you may not want to hear this, but it’s possible your mate may be... dead,” Max said. I swear I was going to die of choking if they didn’t stop. I needed to change the subject. I could feel Derek stare at me. He’s watching my reactions. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to imply that, but it would explain why you have not met him yet,” Max put his hand gently on my arm. “Well, I’m not the only one who hasn’t found my mate. The Alpha hasn’t either, and he’s older than me. I also don’t see you with a mate,” I snapped back. I immediately felt bad when I saw the look on Max’s face. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I don’t know if you have a mate. It’s just...” I began before Derek cut me off. “You could be the mate of an Alpha. There’s one unmated Alpha in the State. He was at the dance, though. I guess your mate may be an Alpha from another State, even if it is not usual,” Derek said. He studied me with his eyes. I wasn’t sure what he was thinking, but I knew just his presence had my wolf trying to climb out. She may not be speaking to me lately, but I could feel her trying to push me towards him. I pushed her back, careful not to make his wolf suspicious. I already knew I would be mated to an Alpha long before I met Derek. My wolf told me my ability to control her so well meant I would be powerful. Not even Alpha Stevens could control his wolf all the time. For the most part, he had it under control, but when it came to his mate, his wolf would take over in a heartbeat. I needed to distance myself from Derek and the conversation of mates. So after I finished my plate, I went and sat in the Garden. Luna Stevens had a beautiful garden that I often found myself admiring every time I was here. I could feel a presence behind me, and I'm thankful it's not Derek. "I'm sorry about what I said; I hope I didn't upset you earlier," Max said as he sat down next to me. "No, I'm fine. It's just my parents have been stressing on me about finding my mate," I said, truthfully. "I did have a mate, but she died. I didn't get a chance to know her very well. She was human and diagnosed with Leukemia at a young age. I knew turning her could possibly have saved her had I known about her illness in time, but by the time I met her, she was too sick. I was doing some volunteer work for a school project when I met her. I'm just happy with the time I got to spend with her before she died," Max said sadly. "I'm so sorry. I imagine that was hard," I said. "When she died, my father said it is possible, I would get a second mate, but so far I haven't met her," He stared off into the distance, a sadness in his eyes. I have heard of it. Sometimes the Goddess would give you another mate if yours was somehow lost. It was very rare and only happened if you didn't get to do the mating. I didn't know anyone who had a second mate, but I knew it was possible. "Come on, enough sad talk. Let's go dance," Max said, standing up and taking my hand. I followed him out to the area where people are dancing as a Bruno Mars's song came on. He was a great dancer, and I felt comfortable in his arms. As the song came to an end, I saw the one person I was happy I avoided for at least a little while. "Mind if I cut in?" Derek asked max. He seemed reluctant but placed my hand in Derek's and walked off. I could feel the sparks through my body as goosebumps formed up and down my arm. "Are you cold, Isabella?" Derek asked as he pulled me closer, making my knees weak. I didn't even know what song was playing; it was hard to concentrate as It took everything in me to not succumb to the pull. "I'm fine," I managed to answer. He held me tight as we moved as one to the music. I rested my head on his shoulders, and for a moment, I let myself relax in his arms and enjoy it. I inhaled the scent of his cologne, etching it into my memory. When the song was over, I pulled away. There was no way I could hold my composure if he danced another song with me. "Thanks for the dance," I said, before heading off into the crowd. Here's a special treat for my readers, Alpha Derek's Point Of View. When she pulled away, she left me breathless. I know she isn't my mate, but I couldn't help it. When she went away, I just felt like a hole was left, like something is missing. The way she felt when I held her in my arms was like no other. I felt a warmness and overall sense of pure bliss as she danced with me. "Seems you're a little attracted to her, I see," My Beta and best friend Brad said as he came up beside me. "She's not my mate," I sighed. "What about your dream. Didn't you say it led you here?" Brad asked me. I had dreamed of a White Wolf, but it masked the face of the wolf. I had recalled the detail of the area I followed the wolf into. A few people I asked told me it was here in this pack. It made little sense. I had met all the unmated wolfs of this pack, and none were my mate, but yet I was certain from the dream this is where it led me to. "I don't know," I finally said. It just doesn't make sense. I've been to all of the packs in the State but two. I knew my mate wasn't there because I visited right before the dance. She has to be from this State. Then there is Isabella. I love her name. It's so beautiful. Sure, I'm attracted to her, but she's not my mate. I did wonder whose mate she was. She would have to either belong to an Alpha, which doesn't make sense because she has met all the unmated Alphas of this State, or her mate was dead. I can’t let my attraction to her impede what I came here for. I need to find my mate. ****** Isabella POV It was Monday morning, and I wanted to get to school a little early and hang out with Rachel and Charlotte. I haven’t talked to them in a few days. Our Principal, a werewolf and generally separated the humans and werewolves at lunch. I ate during the first lunch, Rachel, Charlotte, and Brian ate during the second lunch. There are, of course, some humans during our lunch. As I pulled up to the school, a few of my friends are already there. I sent a text To Rachel and told her I would meet her by the Oaktree in ten minutes; I stopped and hung with my fellow pack members for a bit. Lacey, Malik, and Kyle were already there. Since Mandy returned today, Tyler would ride with her. Most of my friends got along well with Rachel, but the guys didn’t like Brian too much. I think they didn’t enjoy having their girls around him, but they always said he was an asshole. Charlotte is shy and used to have a crush on Tyler. she tried to avoid him whenever she could. “Hey, guys, Kyle, where is your mate, Renee? I thought she was starting today?” I asked him. “She will be here. Her father is driving her and Max up so he can meet Alpha Stevens,” he said. “I will be back shortly, I’m going to go find Rachel and them,” I said . “We will go with you,” Malik said. “I want to introduce Lacey to some more people,” As we approached the tree, I saw Rachel and Brian already there. “You have been avoiding me, Izzy, I have been calling you all weekend,” Brian said. I sighed, remembering his party, I felt bad, but I couldn’t explain that to him. What was I supposed to say? He didn’t even know werewolves existed, let alone what a mate was. “I texted you. My parents have kept me busy,” I said. “They always have a full Social Calendar,” Brian said. “This is Lacey. She’s new here,” I introduced her as she walked up to us. “I’m Brian, and this is Rachel,” Brian said, introducing himself. I could see Malik watching Brian like a hawk. Brian didn’t chase girls. They flocked to him like he was the most delicious ice cream they ever had. I’m happy to see Lacey didn’t seem interested. She was being nice and seemed happy to meet new people, but that was it. “You guys make a cute couple.” Lacey giggled and pointed to Rachel and Brian. “Oh no, no way, we are barely even friends.” Rachel said, shaking her head profusely. We all laughed, knowing she can’t stand Brian. I could see Melly and her mate Brad approaching from a distance. After introductions were over, I noticed Tyler and Mandy still had not arrived. Usually, Melly was the last one here. “Where are Tyler and Mandy?” I asked. “I’m sure Tyler just wanted to spend some quality time with his girl,” Kyle said. “They pulled in after me,” Charlotte said. I had almost forgotten his mate was starting school here today. Our small little group just got bigger. “What lunch do you have, Brad?” I asked. “Our lunch schedules will be changing. They will announce it today,” Melly’s eyes fell on me, and I knew I would not like this change. I gave her a questioning look, but she only added. “My mom told me she had heard it at PTA or something,” That meant that our principal had told her mother. He’s a member of our pack. I’m curious about it, especially since I see a smirk on Brad’s face. We sat around a few minutes more talking before the first bell rang, signaling it was time to head to our lockers. I said my goodbyes and went inside. We were in homeroom when the announcement came on, telling seniors and juniors to report to the auditorium. Many kids were cheering and hoping that it cut into the first period, which started in fifteen minutes. We grabbed our stuff and headed to the auditorium. I took a seat next to Melly and Brad. I didn’t see any of my other friends yet. “So, what’s going on?” I asked her. “We are getting a special teacher, one you will recognize immediately.” She said slyly. Before I could ask her more, however, Principal Jones took the stage and demanded we be silent. In our pack, he had no demand over us, but here at school, he did. He was in charge here. “We have always done two lunches, but starting today, we will only do one. Most who ate in the second lunch had either physical education or Study hall during the first lunch. Those who ate in the first lunch had study hall after. You will instead have the honor of working with Mr. Morgan. He will teach some self-defense and fighting techniques. For today everyone is to report to lunch in the fourth period. After lunch, report to the stadium for that class. I would like to introduce you to Mr. Morgan,” Mr. Jones beamed at Derek as he walked towards the podium. There were some cheers and even some boos as he took the stage. But once he looked out at the audience, even the humans shut up. He was very powerful, and though they didn’t know what he was, they could tell that much. It didn’t seem Like I was getting away from my Alpha mate anytime soon.
