The Arrival

When we arrived at the clearing, it’s packed already. Most of the pack had already shown up. I did not smell Derek, my mate, so he must not be here yet. The pack members were standing around in groups. My parents were with Alpha Stevens. They looked to be in a very important conversation. I walked over to where Melly and the others were. “She is human and needs more time,” Malik was saying as I walked up. “I am glad my mate wasn’t human,” Kyle said. “Are you trying to say something about my mate?” Malik said in a threatening tone to Kyle. “Calm down dude, I was only saying I understand how hard it must be. You got to work harder, and then there’s the chance she won’t accept you because of what you are,” Kyle said. “Where is your mysterious mate Kyle?” I asked him. “You will meet her soon, she is transferring here on Monday. I am going down tomorrow to meet her family and pack,” he said proudly. I didn’t get a look at her at the dance. I only saw her from behind, as she was dancing with him. I hope she was cool and fit in with us well. Just then everyone got quiet. I turned and noticed Alpha Stevens had taken his position at the front in the clearing. “Glad to see everyone here. I am excited to meet the new mates of our pack members and sad to see a few leaving soon to join their mate’s packs. We will have a ceremony and going away party next weekend for this,” Alpha Stevens began. Many people cheered, but I felt sick. It meant that Melly would leave me. Since her mate was a Beta, she would join their pack. I still didn’t know what pack that was. “As many of you already know, we have been looking for trainers for the younger wolfs. I am still looking for two more, but I have decided to put all qualified up for the position. We have a guest who will stay with us for a few weeks, and he will help with the training. He has asked that all take part in so he can test and choose a few to help. I know many are nervous about who our guest is, but I assure you there is no need to be. We rarely have such a High ranked Alpha in our mix, but we will gain much by it,” Alpha Stevens said, looking around. I knew he was here I could smell him; I was curious about what he looked like. I didn’t like that he would be here for a few weeks and would help with training. The good thing was I didn’t need training, I had already completed mine last year. We all learn self-defense and fighting skills. We don’t have too many problems with Rogues. Most Rogues are just loners who don’t wish to be a part of a pack. They live their lives in peace, though we do sometimes have problems with revenge-seeking rogues, or ones who are in hiding and looking for resources. There is also the issue of territory. Some packs will push for territory as they grow larger, and bully other packs for theirs. We don’t have that problem much here, but we are always ready for whatever. "I would like you all to meet Alpha Derek, Head of the  Council," Alpha Stevens said as the crowd cheered. I couldn't believe it, he was head of the Wolf Council. He was the highest-ranked Alpha in the world. A part of me felt bad because I knew he had until a certain day to find his mate or he would be forced to step down.  There was a rumor I once heard, that said Alphas could take another Luna if they did not find theirs by a certain date if they were on the council. I hoped that was true. I didn't want to be responsible for him losing his title, though I was not going back on my plan. I would have to look into it. I could see him as he stood before us next to Alpha Stevens. It was hard not to look at him he was gorgeous. I was also affected by the pull. He has blonde hair and is tall. He towered over Alpha Stevens, and that was saying something. Alpha Stevens was close to 6'. He was dressed casually. His shirt fits him tight in the chest area revealing a very muscular body underneath. I couldn't see his eyes, which was probably a good thing. I had a feeling I would get lost in them if I did.  If only looks mattered I would be all over him right now. He was better looking than any guy I had ever seen. Power just radiated off of him, like he was an electric generator. I wanted to move closer but held myself back. I would not let my wolf push me. This was going to be my decision, not hers. “I am happy to be here in such a great pack. I know most have you have not met me yet since I have only recently taken over as Head of the Council, but I am excited to get to know you all. I am sure most have heard by now, I am looking for my mate; we will hold a party at the packhouse later this evening. All unmated wolves are to be there,” he looked around at the faces as if searching for something before continuing. “I have brought a few of my pack members with me, and a few of them are mateless as well. Perhaps there’s a chance one of you could be their mate. I don’t require any mated couples to attend, but it would be nice if you did. It will give you all a chance to have fun and socialize. I am not sure how long I will be here, but at least for a few weeks, as my Head Beta found his mate amongst this pack. I am giving him a chance to get to know her family and this pack. I will assist with some training during my time here and look forward to working with you all. Thank you.” Derek said as he stepped over and allowed Alpha Stevens to speak once again. I didn’t even hear Alpha Stevens; I was busy running through what Derek had said in my head. It surprised me he did not say he found his mate, only that he was looking for her. There would be a lot of single girls trying to get his attention, I’m sure. I was happy about that, but there was still a feeling in the pit of my stomach that didn’t like it one bit. It was because of the pull. I just needed to make sure I kept it in check whenever I was around him. I was glad I had a lot of control over my wolf because if not she would have done gave us away. I commanded complete control over mine, something that was not an easy feat. “Izzy! Are you even listening?” I heard Melly say. “Sorry, I was just thinking,” I said. “I bet you were, but I wanted to know if we could ride together.” She asked me. I was sure she would stay behind with her mate. I had yet to meet him, however; I wanted to spend as much time with her as I could before she left our pack. “That sounds great, what time did he say to be there?” I asked. “It starts at seven p.m., but I will come over a little early,” Melly answered me. Suddenly I could feel my knees go weak and I knew that he was near. Melly must have seen my dilemma because she wrapped her arms around me, leading me to a small rock. We sat down, and just in time as The Alpha himself approached us. “Melly, I was wondering if you might help me out later with the names of the unmated females of this pack,” Derek asked Melly. My stomach flip-flopped at the sound of his voice. “Of course I can,” Melly answered him. “I am Alpha Derek,” he said extending his hand to me. I took a deep breath in, readying myself for the shocks I would surely feel as I touched his hand. It was too early in the game to lose now. “Isabella, but my friends all call me Izzy,” I said as I shook his hand. I could feel my body go weak, as the shocks went down my body and between my legs. I didn’t expect that last part. I pulled my hand away and began looking in my purse. I wasn’t looking for anything, really. I just wanted to pretend to be. I knew my hands were trembling, and I didn’t want him to see. “So have you found your mate, Isabella?” He asked using my complete name. The way it sounded on his lips was out of this world. “No, I’m still looking,” I said, avoiding his gaze. He stood staring at me a moment and I wondered if he had figured it out. But then he turned back towards Melly and said, “I guess I should head back to the Packhouse. I will talk to you later,” As he walked away I breathed a sigh of relief. This was going to be harder than I thought.  *******  “Izzy, you know, once I’m initiated into his pack, he could order me to tell him the truth?” Melly said. We were driving to the packhouse, and she was trying to once again convince me how bad of an idea this was. I just wanted to get this night over with. My parents had their own place close to the packhouse. I was glad because I could limit the time I spent with him. “Melly, he wouldn’t have a reason to ask you if I’m his mate. This necklace stops him from ever knowing,” I said as I put my fingers on the necklace. “I know, I guess I just don’t want to leave you. If you’re mated with him, then we would be in the same pack,” she said sadly. “Just because you’re moving doesn’t mean we will never talk again,” I said as we pulled up to the packhouse. We had to come a little earlier because Alpha Derek wanted to go over with her the names of the unmated females. I told my mother I would help her set up a few things. Alpha Stevens brought in a caterer, since it was mostly last minute and too late to start a barbecue. It was a fairly warm evening so we would eat outside. But they would need to set up the tables and chairs. Melly just gave me a sad look and went off to meet Alpha Derek and her mate. I headed towards the back of the mansion where I found many of the pack members carrying tables and chairs. I saw my mother over by the door talking with a caterer, so I headed towards her. “Hey honey, most of the guys have already handled the tables and chairs, but if you could bring out the paper plates and stuff and set them up on the tables that would be great. There is a table connected to the buffet that you could put them on. They should be in the kitchen.” My mother said as she finished talking to the caterer. I went inside the back patio door that led to the Kitchen. Everything I needed was on the table. I began carrying them out and setting them up on the two sides of the buffet. It was easier to have two lines with so many members. Both lines had the exact same foods. I noticed a salad bar off to the side, so I set some up over there as well.  After making one last trip for the napkins, I finished. A few more members’ had already shown up. I see Kyle standing by the gazebo with a Brunette and a guy my age. So I headed over to introduce myself. “Looks like you showed up just in time, all the works done,” I said teasingly to Kyle. “Well, I had to go pick up Renee. Renee, I would like you to meet one of my good friends, Izzy. Izzy this is my mate, Renee,” he said as he gestured between us. She was really cute in a sort of wholesome like way. “I guess I am not worthy of an introduction.” The guy with them said teasingly. “I’m sorry. This is Renee’s brother, Max. He is thinking of joining us as well.” Kyle said. “Don’t worry, I’m sure he’s just all caught up with his mate since they just met,” I told Max. “Yea, you’re telling me, I had to ride with these guys. They couldn’t keep their eyes off each other. I was sure he would kill us since he couldn’t keep his eyes on the road.” Max laughed as he playfully nudged Kyle. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. He was also good looking. He had hair just a little lighter than his sisters, but he kept it very short. His eyes were a smoldering blue. He wasn’t as hot as Derek, but I liked him. “Let’s go eat before the lines get long,” Kyle said It never failed. He was always hungry, and lucky he had a high metabolism. I see him wolf down food all the time. He pulled Renee along with him, leaving me standing there with just Max. “I don’t know anyone else here, do you mind if I sit with you?” He asked me. “Of course not, everyone here is pretty nice. I will introduce you around later,” I said as we walked towards the growing line.
