Chapter 3

1053 Words
It was the next morning by the time the three had put out the blaze. The green eyed teen carried the two burned bodies outside, laying them down on the grass. “Never do that again.” The girl said, looking towards Tom. “I know, I know.” The teen replied, “I was just so shocked from it, that I had to get rid of them.” “I understand,” Sonja said, feeling sorry for Tom. She had in fact felt the same thing. The three prepared to leave, knowing that the flames, even though it was inside, would attract zombies. As Michael threw food into his backpack, he heard something strange. It sounded as if a shelf was crashing. He looked back at Sonja and Tom, and they looked worried as well. He motioned towards the door, gun raised. Sonja followed, crossbow up, with Tom behind her. Michael opened the door to see what was going on, and the second he opened the door, guns were pointed. “Drop it,” The burly man said, AK-47 aimed. Michael had only opened the door enough for he and Tom to be seen. Sonja was still invisible, and he hoped she’d keep it that way. Michael raised his hands, and dropped his pistol. “You too.” The man said motioning towards Tom. Sonja saw them being forced out, but she hadn’t been noticed yet. Sonja squatted on the ground, as Tom exited through the door, knife sheathed. The man let go of his rifle, allowing it to slide back, tip aimed at the ground. “Move.” He said, ushering the two boys out towards the isle, where his friend was. As the second man started taking the weapons off of the boys, Sonja watched silently. Once the two intruders turned their backs, Sonja crept out the maintenance door. She had to kill a few zombies, as she headed for the main door. Before she entered, Sonja heard the unforgiving sound of a gun c*****g. “Drop the bow, girlie.” Sonja heard someone say. She lowered her crossbow, and started to turn around, hands in the air. The man with the gun aimed at her looked as if he had been cut. There was a poorly stitched scar across his cheek. The blood looked fresh. Scar-Face bent down, to pick up Sonja’s crossbow. As he bent over, she jumped onto his back, which made him hit the ground. He threw her off, causing Sonja to land next to a pile of junk. Scar-Face ran at her, gun raised. “Stay down,” he said. Just as he was holstering his gun, Sonja attacked. She stabbed a pole into his foot, causing him to scream in pain. Sonja then attacked again, but this time in a more tender spot. The man started to pass out, just as Sonja picked up her crossbow, and his gun. She opened the door, crossbow aimed. Sonja traveled quietly to where her friends were held. Just as she noticed them, she also saw that one of the two men as walking towards her. So Sonja hid behind a pile of toilet paper. Not the greatest hiding place, but it’ll have to do.Sonja thought, as she waited for him to pass. Just as he was about to pass, he turned. The adult started walking into the aisle! “Hey!” He shouted, noticing Sonja. “You’re not supposed to be here!” The man reached for his gun, but Sonja was too fast. She shot him in the leg, causing him to clutch his limb in pain. “Stupid child!” he shouted, lurching towards her. Sonja pulled her knife and stabbed him through the head. The other intruder noticed commotion and shouted. “Hey what"s going on?!!” He didn"t hear a reply, so he started towards the aisle. Just as he was passing the aisle next to her, Sonja stepped into the hallway, firing, hitting him in the chest. He grabbed the arrow, trying to pull it from his chest, but it was too late, as the arrow had pierced his heart. The intruder died. Sonja ran towards her friends, seeing them gagged. As she was taking off their gags, she realized what she had just done. Sonja started breaking down in tears. “What’s wrong?” Michael asked. “I just killed three people…” She replied between tears. Her friend embraced her in a hug, drying her tears with his shirt. “Don’t worry... You did what you had to.” He said, comforting her. Tom just sat on top of a ham. “We need to get out of here,” Tom stated. Michael stared, but then realized that he was right. Sonja stood, staring at Tom, then she pulled a gun. “Whoa whoa, just put the gun down,” Tom stated, slightly scared. “Sonja, put the gun down!” Michael shouted. The sound of a gun rang throughout the store. As Michael stood up, he noticed that Sonja had shot a zombie that was about to bite Tom. “You really thought I was going to kill him?” Sonja asked. “Fine then, have the stupid gun.” Sonja replied, dropping the gun, and heading into the back, grabbing her backpack. “Sonja wait!” Michael shouted, but it was too late. Sonja had stormed out from the other entrance, only with her backpack and crossbow. “Well, now we’re screwed.” Tom stared, watching Sonja walking away. “This is all my fault,” he said. Michael looked at him. “No it isn’t, I thought she was going to try to kill you as well. But you are right, we have to go.” Michael helped Tom off the ground, each of them checking their guns, then heading for food. Once Michael had his bag, they stared out the door. “Should we follow her?” Michael asked, unsure. “No. We should let her go, she’ll find us in time.” The two boys started for the other door, taking one of the cars. Michael drove off, unsure of where they were headed.
