Chapter 4

She walked for a long time. The girl never stopped except to get out food, but she ate as she moved. As she was heading down a road, one she had never seen before, there was a strange sound. It sounded like a car. The teen was beginning to hide, but she never had the chance. It turned out that the car was closer than she thought. As the girl spun around, two people got out of the car. “Don’t worry. We ain"t going to hurt you,” he said, hands raised. Sonja stared at him, and then his companion. “Knives and guns on the ground now,” she said. “All right,” the second one said. “You look lost, let"s give you a ride home,” the first one said as he dropped his knife, narrowly missing his foot. “Well, let"s get to know each other! I’m Byron, that"s Gary,” Byron said, looking towards his companion. “What"s your name?” Sonja slightly lowered her crossbow. “I’m Sonja. And I’m not lost, nor do I have a home.” “Well then, Sonja. You can come with us! We have a camp, and a good armory. Beds, food, everything. How ‘bout it?” “No, I’m good. Thanks anyway though, I’ll just be leaving now,” Sonja replied, walking over towards them to take their guns. “It wasn"t a question, dolly, I’m telling you. You’re coming with us,” Byron said, grabbing her, which resulted in her shouting. As she tried to punch him, he restrained her arms. Then he took her crossbow and almost threw her into the car, before realizing that he hadn’t tied her. Picking the girl out from the car and tying her hands, Byron put her back into the car. “You can’t do this to me!” she shouted. “”Oh, but we can, see there"s no law enforcement, no anything. We can do whatever we like.” Sonja knew he was right, as the two men got into their car, and drove off. The two boys -now without their best fighter- were struggling to survive. They were going to head back to the supermarket, -where they were- but decided against it. All they could do was hope that they found Sonja. Michael was behind the wheel as Tom sat in shotgun, ironically with a shotgun. As they continued down the road, they noticed what seemed to be an army surplus center. Tom got out of the car, even though it was still moving, doing a somersault, landing on one knee, shotgun ready. “Did you see that??” The boy asked. “I was awesome!!” Michael opened his door, staring towards him. “Yeah...c’mon we should focus. Get guns, ammo anything we can find...clothes, canteens, that sort of thing.” The two teens entered the area, not seeing much. The entire place had already been ransacked, shelves turned over, all of the guns gone. “Wait a second…” Tom pondered, looking towards the back. “My dad used to work here, I know where they have more stuff.” Tom lead Michael into the back room, revealing a few untouched items: a crate full of canteens, a few different jackets, and a plethora of knives. “Bam!” Tom said, looking towards his traveling partner. “I’ll take this stuff to the truck; we’ll put it in the back. Once the boys placed their new gear into the back of the truck, they saw a car roll up. Tom held his shotgun towards the door. Two men got out with their hands up. “We don’t want any trouble bro.” Michael looked towards his teammate, then pulled his knife. “What do you want.” The men stared. “Whatever’s in that store. Well. Let’s introduce ourselves shall we?” The man who came from the drivers side extended his hand. “I’m Byron.” The four talked for a little while. The other man was introduced as Gary. Just as Michael was about to allow them into the store, Tom heard the sound of someone taking the safety off their gun. Michael spun around looking, before a gunshot was heard, and Tom fell to the ground. “TOM!!!” Michael shouted, running to his fallen friend. He looked towards Byron, screaming in rage, as he tried to attack, but Byron was much larger than Tom, as he just shoved him to the ground. The next thing Michael saw was someone jumping from the roof, then his head was covered. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sonja had been sleeping for a long time in the back of the truck. She didn’t know that they had stopped. What had woken her was the sound of a gunshot. She tried to get up, but it was slightly hard as her feet had fallen off, and were stuck under the seat. She was finally able to pull herself to the window, gazing out, as she saw a crumpled body on the ground, and another body that they were dragging to the car. Ooh, a friend, she thought sarcastically. It wasn"t until they opened up her door, lifted her, put the newcomer down, and forced her back, which resulted in her landing and hitting his leg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ‘Sonja?” The new person asked. He had obviously been crying, she could hear it in his voice. “Erm...Yes?” she said, struggling to turn and face him. When she finally did she was shocked. “MICHAEL!” She was overjoyed. Then she remembered. “W..Where’s Tom??” Michael looked saddened. She could tell something went wrong. “He’s...he’s gone.” As the car ride continued, Sonja stared up at Michael’s face. She was in an awkward position, so her arms weren’t free. Nor could she sit up to look out the window. Then the car stopped. “What’s going on?” Sonja wondered. Michael stared out the window. “We’ve stopped, and it looks like there’s more people. We’re in trouble.” The door opened, and Byron grabbed Sonja by the legs, carrying her bridal style into the clearing. She tried to fight him, kicking, but she couldn’t do much, as she was restrained. “Let go of me!” she shouted. Sonja noticed Michael, being shoved out of the car. Then forced to walk, with a gun at his back. He noticed that Sonja was looking at him, and smiled, mouthing, “We’ll be fine.” As Byron, Gary, Sonja, and Michael entered the clearing, many people kept staring. In the whole area, there were about fifteen people. Well, that"s how many Michael could count. He wondered why they were taking them, but then a thought came into his head. Oh god...what if they’re cannibals!? The thoughts continued flowing through his head. Byron and Gary threw Sonja and Michael into a tent, and walked away, telling someone that they were in there, probably to guard them. Sonja stared at Michael, fear in her eyes. He went over to her, kneeling down next to her. He started to untie her as much as he could. He was able to get her hands, which she in turn got his. After this, she took of her gag and foot restraints. “That feels so much better… Being able to stretch out.” Sonja said, as she -obviously- stretched out. Michael laughed at her before hearing footsteps. Sonja’s eyes widened as she stared out at the shadows forming around the tent. “Well..
