After Sheara fell asleep on his desk chair, Darius was fighting with his dragon. His dragon wanted to take her to bed, claim her, mate her; but the human side of Darius knew that that would be wrong. She had to consent to it, he wanted her to be just as much a part of their first time together as he was going to be. In the end he chooses a middle ground, he would put her in his bed and sleep on the couch. That way, he would still be near enough to smell her and feel her presence in the room. His dragon didn’t like it, but then, he didn’t have to. Being mated to a human was something entirely different for the both of them.
However, having her in the same room as him, affecting him more than he expected. He spent the night fighting with himself and his dragon. In the end, he had to leave early for a flight over the ocean to calm himself down. On returning to the house later, he found Collin with the two children, looking for their mum, where he informed them that they could play outside. Hearing the children’s excited squeals went right to his heart and he felt like melting on the spot. Hearing her laughter and growls from his room, had him rock hard in moments, wondering what sounds and growls she would make when he buried himself deep inside of her. So much so that for a moment, when she touched him, he lost control and she saw the flash of his dragon. But the smell of her fear and the tremble in her voice, had him back in control immediately.
He was in such a good mood, especially after hearing her say that she would like to have dinner with him, until he heard the knock on his study door.
“Come in.”
“Sir, Alpha Alexandro and Luna Kamaria would like to have a meeting to discuss the new developments with the humans staying here.”
“Need I remind you Collin that those HUMANS, as you call them, happen to be my life mate and her children?! They are soon to be mine too! And that some respect will be in order?!”
“I’m sorry Sir, off course not. I meant no offence. Only wanted to inform you regarding the meeting Sir.”
“Very well, I will meet with them, but they are most definitely interrupting my plans for the day! You had better make sure they are cared for, every single one of their needs must be met, and so help me, if a single HAIR on their heads is out of place…!”
“Of course, Sir. I will make sure that they are fed and well cared for and I will ask Aria to assist as well if that is acceptable.”
“Hmmm, that’s actually a great idea. She will need friends if she is to stay here. Maybe we should have a play date with some of the pups from the pack too. The children need play friends as well.”
“That’s great Sir, but maybe we should first inform her of us being supernatural beings first BEFORE one of the pups lets it slip by accident?”
“I haven’t spent much time with the pups or with the pack for that matter, but if that’s what your advice, I will follow that. You are dismissed.”
Getting ready for his meeting, Darius was left feeling more and more frustrated while listening to his mate and future children playing on the beach as the sound drifted towards his extra strong hearing. He was not in the mood to leave them behind, but the mutual benefits of having the pack on his land and in good standing with each other drove him out. When he was ready, he had Collin drive him over after confirming that Aria and another, younger male was watching over his mate and her children. Having another male near his mate was driving his dragon wild, but he felt better having someone near to help protect her.
“This BETTER not take long! I don't like having her around other males till we mate her” his dragon grumbled.
“Would you rather her being attacked by some unknown supernatural? I’d rather her be safe!”
His dragon couldn’t argue with that, folding his wings, he sat down, but his nails got stretched out in warning, making Darius wince at the sharpness of it in his mind. Noticing the satisfied smirk of his dragon, Darius just shook his head, before letting Collin assist him out the car towards the house.
“Darius, YOU where the one who said NO humans would be allowed here! Not even mates!” Alpha Alexandro’s voice was raised.
“Well, this was not by my choice Alexandro!”
“I don’t very much care, she has to go! She can expose us!”
“I’ve told you before and I will say it again, this land belongs to me! The choice is not for you to make, Alexandro. Either you let her be, or you all go rogue and find a new place to stay!” Darius was at the end of his tether. He was losing it. Instead of spending the day outside, getting to know his mate, he was forced to stay in a meeting with people he didn’t even have an urge to speak with under normal circumstances, and he did not want to do so now. He has been solitary by nature and choice ever since he lost his family.
“Darius, that’s just outrages! After all the years, we too have a right to these lands!”
Years ago, when Darius had agreed to having the wolves on his land, it was a mutual agreement. He needed the assistance and they needed the protection his name and dragon-form gave them from other, supernatural beings. When in human form he couldn’t see and he needed someone who could help with making food, keeping the house clean and all the other necessary things he couldn’t do. Alpha Alexandro had agreed to have his third, Collin and his mate Aria, assist Darius as he hated unnecessary contact with other people, and Collin was a quiet, reserved person who fitted with Darius’s live style perfectly. They got along great and had even become friends. But this was an intrusion that Darius did NOT appreciate at all. This was going too far!
“Now you had better listen to me and listen very carefully, Alexandro. If you want this land for yourself, you will fight me for it! Otherwise, you will leave me and my mate alone. Are we clear?!”
“Now, now gentlemen. I truly do not see any reason for this absurd behavior!” It was the first time Luna Kamaria had spoken. She was a soft-spoken lady and although she was from Swahili descent, when transformed in her wolf-form, her fur was as radiant as the moon she was named after.
The only answer that she however received was a growl from Darius. This immediately had Alexandro reacting, jumping to his feet, ready to charge at him. Kamaria stepped between them quite calmly. “Alexo, don’t be silly, sit down. Darius, is she THAT special to you?”
“She’s my mate! What else do you expect?”
“We all know that already Darius” Kamaria sounded exasperated as she says this, “But what makes her different from other human-mates?! Why are you allowed a human mate, but not the wolves?”
“I… Kamaria, Dragon’s NEVER have human mates, NEVER! You know that! It’s not like with wolves where it’s rare but can happen more often!” Darius said while running his hand’s through his hair. “I… Dragon-shifters, worldwide, are almost extinct. I can’t take that chance! I barely KNOW her and meetings like this ruins my chance of EVER getting to know her!”
“Well, I think that takes care of that then. Now Alexo, let’s settle this and let him go to his mate. You won’t like me to decide to leave you be all alone on a strange beach, now would you?” A sly look had settled on Kamaria’s face and in her tone of voice, making Darius shake his head and smile.
Grumbling, Alexandro and Darius started discussing the situation and how to make it best for everyone involved, without compromising the safety of the pack, but also assisting Darius to keep his mate and children under his wings, metaphorically speaking off course.
It was while discussing the ins and outs of how the pack can stay in the shadows while Darius woe’s his mate, that everyone noticed Kamaria’s face suddenly go blank, as if she was in mind-link with someone else. Then she started yelling orders.
“Darius! You must leave NOW! It’s your mate and the children! NOW! No discussions, NOW!” Kamaria’s voice had a frantic edge to it. Darius wanted to run to the outside and take flight to his mate, but his vision, as always, got in the way. Swearing, he let his dragon take partial control so they can run outside without help before taking flight and shredding clothes in the process. He needed to get to his mate, see them, make sure they were safe!
“I TOLD you that this wasn’t a good idea and that we should make it short!” his dragon was definitely NOT happy!
