That day in the rain - 1
Sprinkles of rain droplets against the window make the chorus of the tranquil classroom.
Everyone else had gone home from the extra hours of revision class just held, leaving me alone in my seat. Laying my face on the hard surface of my desk, the bag hung on my shoulder ready to go home, but I decided to linger for a little longer.
Drip, drip, drip...
This calms me so much rather than being at home at this time. Mom will be busy preparing dinner and Hansel, my youngest brother, will probably be in the playing room with his favorite Legos. And dad will be home in another hour.
When dad is home, the chances of Hansel attacking or annoying me are lowered.
Hansel is diagnosed with a rare intermittent explosive disorder that needed him to be put in a special school and numerous therapy.
Playing with blocks and drawing usually are the best activities to alleviate his mood, but eventually, his episodes mostly take place when I'm home. He couldn't stand me around doing my own things freely without having outbursts of rage like him. He refuses to be the only one that is uncommon, and so I naturally become his human punching bag.
As time went by, I learned that staying away from home whenever dad isn't around is the best way to avoid Hansel. As I upgraded to high school, there were more and more hours of school time.
Class detention? I will be glad to have it, but, I loved class detention!
An extra hour of class? No problem, while my classmates grumbled, I secretly smiled. I'm good at having my eyes wide open while my mind drifts away.
Staying back in class just to waste a little more time wouldn't kill me. I tell myself as my droopy eyes get heavier, induced by the peaceful sounds of nature.
It's only a few minutes after I fall asleep.
The pouring rain started to make a tapping sound, keeping me awake in my dazzled dreamy languid.
What time is it?
I asked myself. I should be going now. I decided to drag myself out rather than being driven away by our school security man like a pest.
But, wait...
Something is off now.
The strange atmosphere sends a tingling sensation to my skin. I sensed that there is definitely, definitely a "someone" is standing right beside my seat. I hold the urge to unfold my eyes before I know what is actually happening.
A prank? Is it Samuel Jin playing a prank on me? Impossible. He is not someone like that.
And the thing I never expected happened...
The person is now extending their hand to remove the lock of hair that covers my complexion. I can feel the callous of their fingers penetrating into my skin.
I stay glued to my seat with my heartbeat gradually increasing, contemplating the way to get away from the situation.
Yet, the hand becomes more daring by pressing them on my lips and I can clearly hear its breathing, so close to me.
Unable to withstand it anymore, using all my might, I knocked the opponent with my head and got out of its grip.
"Ahh!" He yelled in pain.
I have successfully at least injured the person, though hitting the person had me dizzy from the sudden movement I made. Turning back, I couldn't believe my eyes at the person that was trying to take chances on me.
He was none other than Mr. Bong, our school security man!
"What are you trying to do, huh!" I snapped. Moving backward, taking a safe distance between us.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his lips. I had hit exactly in his mouth. Adjusting his composure, he approached slowly towards me. "A young person of your age must be in raging s****l hormones, right? You are actually luring me to do things for you, am I right?" He said in his semi-whispered tone.
Sneering, he is unaffected by the pain I had caused him. "Come, don't be afraid. After the first time, you will be begging for more. Or Is it, you already have been with a man?"
The sickening rasp in his tone disgusted me, my heart almost skips a beat as his hand tries to reach for me.
"No! You are crazy, go away! I'm telling you!" I had never been this terrified in my life. My insecurity at home had me misunderstood by adults, exposing my vulnerability to perverts.
"Stay away from me! You can't do this, " I snarled. Looking for any device around me to be used as my shield. Other than chairs and tables, there are none.
"Baby girl, I have shut down the camera surveillance system. Our secrets will be safe. Don't worry. No one will be here at this hour, I assure you." He said, approaching closer to me, almost having me cornered. "It will be fun, trust me, baby girl..."
Psycho! He tried to speak in a way of comfort, but all I saw was a dirty villain and nauseating person in front of me!
What are the first rules in any dangerous situation?
DON'T PANIC.
But, damn, I'm scared!
He tried to grab me and I acted just the right time by pulling a table from my side, putting a barricade over us, and turning to the other side.
I think it had hit him somewhere as I heard him flinching away, hissing in pain with a loud thud, yet I didn't bother to look back if he was alright.
My instinct was made to save myself. I made a dash out towards the open door to escape.
At that hour, there wouldn't be any single soul mingling in the building. Class ended at 5:30 pm, but our class is the last one leaving today after Mrs. Sue's extra hour revision session.
Idiot me, I have never foreseen the inevitable of a pervert in a school that is supposed to be a safe place for us!
Sprinting along the empty walkway, I regret being inactive in athletics. This short run had me gasping for air, yet, I refuse to look back, the pouring rain doesn't bother me.
