Chapter 21The Haddoe District was the first place Barron wanted to show me. The beach philosopher lived there, and he wanted to start his tour through this part of the city. While he was explaining the history of the district, I looked out the passenger’s window at the homes connected to each other. They were made of stone and had windows with wooden shutters. I got the feeling they were quite old, at least from several generations ago. The stone looked weathered, and I could see cracks in the wooden shutters. Barron stated these duplexes, triplexes, and quadplexes were some of the first homes built in the city after Hendric Terrance Goltz arrived from Hamburg.
