Chapter 6

1235 Words
Rina I was peeking at Evo's mother's big house. I know that around this time, she comes out and goes to the park near their house to jog. I intentionally woke up early so I could catch her coming out of their gate. Fortunately, the house of Evo's mother was close to ours; it was just one ride away from our house, so I quickly arrived in front of her house. I will not allow Evo's marriage to my shameless half-sister to happen. Evo is mine alone. The wealth that Raina will enjoy if she marries Evo is mine alone. I have only seen and talked to Evo's mother once, but I immediately noticed that she is very strict when it comes to the dignity of the woman her son will marry. She is also kind, but she wants her son to marry a woman whom she can be proud of in front of many people. When Evo introduced me to her as his fiancée, I was very careful not to do anything or make any small mistakes that she wouldn't like. I will use Mrs. Mondragon to stop the wedding of Evo and Raina. When I saw Mrs. Mondragon come out of the gate, I pretended to run slowly until she caught up with me and recognized me. "Oh, Rina! It's really you. I thought it was someone else I saw running," she greeted me with a smile when she stopped in front of me. I also stopped and faced her. "Hi, Mrs. Mondragon. Good morning," I also greeted her. I intentionally made it noticeable that I seemed lonely and not in the mood so she would ask me what my problem was. "Why do you seem sluggish? Do you have a problem?" she asked me with concern. I wasn't disappointed with what I wanted to happen. She did ask me if I had a problem. But of course, I wouldn't tell her right away so she'd be more curious about the problem I'm going through and I'd gain her sympathy. "Nothing. Maybe I'm just not in the mood when I woke up," I softly replied to her. "Why are you jogging here in our subdivision?" "My friend lives here and I slept at their house. I couldn't sleep so I woke up early to jog," I answered her, still with a sluggish voice. "Do you have a problem with my son?" she asked me again. I pretended not to hear her and showed her that I was staring blankly. "Hey, Rina! Did you and Evo fight that's why you're acting like that?" She snapped her fingers in front of my face so I pretended to be surprised. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Mondragon. Were you saying something?" "I said, did you and my son quarrel that's why you're acting like that? You seem spiritless," she asked me again. I sadly shook my head at her. "Let's run now, Mrs. Mondragon," I said to her instead of answering her question. I ran first but only slowly. I suddenly saw a car coming opposite us, and it was driving slowly. Perfect for the scene I was planning. Pretending not to notice that I was already running in the middle of the road, I heard the approaching vehicle honk several times but I ignored it. Evo's mother was just behind me and I was sure she wouldn't let me get hit. Moments later, I felt her strong arms pulling me towards the side of the road. "What's wrong with you, Rina? You're absent-minded. You didn't even hear the car honking at you earlier. Are you trying to kill yourself?" Mrs. Mondragon scolded me angrily, but I sensed concern from her. And that's what I wanted to happen. I want Mrs. Mondragon to see me miserable so that when she finds out that her son is marrying another woman, she will still want me to be her daughter-in-law because of pity. Evo loves his mom so much. I am sure that if Mrs. Mondragon tells him to marry me and not Raina, he will not hesitate to follow his mother's wishes. I sat by the roadside and cried my heart out. The kind of cry that breaks your heart. Based on my investigation, she has a soft spot for oppressed women. She experienced being oppressed by her husband's relatives when she had not yet proven herself. That's why she established the Women's Protection Foundation to help women who are oppressed by anyone. "Evo broke up with me, Mrs. Mondragon. Our wedding is off. He doesn't want to marry me anymore," I tearfully reported to her. I cried again, she hugged me while gently stroking my back. I secretly smiled because I thought I succeeded in gaining her sympathy. "Is that why you seem spiritless?" I gently nodded to her. She stood me up and helped me sit on a stone chair by the roadside. "Calm down and stop crying. Tell me everything. Tell me why my son no longer wants to marry you." I stopped crying and wiped my tears with my hand before speaking again. "He doesn't want to marry me anymore because of my half-sister, Raina. My stepsister is pregnant and she was claiming that the father of her unborn child is your son. She had a one-night stand with Evo, which is why she got pregnant. I told Evo that he wasn't the only man in my half-sister's life, so maybe he was not the father of the child, but he didn't believe me and got mad instead. He immediately broke up with me to marry my half-sister." I secretly celebrated when I saw the depiction of anger on Mrs. Mondragon's face. Now, all I need to do is severely discredit Raina in her eyes so that when Evo introduces my half-sister to her, she will not accept her as her daughter-in-law. "Why didn't Evo tell me about this? I will not allow your half-sister to burden him with a child from another man. I will never allow it to happen," Mrs. Mondragon said firmly. "Evo probably knew you wouldn't agree to have a daughter-in-law with a child from another man, that's why he didn't tell you," she replied, sobbing. "What should I do, Mrs. Mondragon? I really love your son. I can't bear to lose him. My half-sister hated me since we were young. I'm sure she deliberately snatched Evo from me just to hurt me. Even when we were kids, she always bullied me. She was jealous of the attention and love that our father gave me. She wants to be the only one our father loves." Mrs. Mondragon wiped the tears streaming down my cheeks. "Don't worry, Rina. I will talk to my son. I will make it clear to him regarding this matter." Worried, I held her hands. "If Evo finds out that I told you, he will be angry with me even more. He won't forgive me. And he definitely won't want to marry me anymore." "Leave it to me, Rina. I will find a way to wake my son up." I rejoiced even more upon hearing what she said. I had already planted a negative image of Raina in Mrs. Mondragon's mind, so I'm certain she will find a way to stop Evo and Raina's wedding. In the end, I will still win. The last laugh will still be mine.
