Raina
"Goodbye, Ma'am Raina," the guard at the company where I work said with a smile as I passed by him.
"Bye," I replied to him with a smile. Everyday, the kind guard never fails to greet me with a smile whenever I enter or leave the building.
I was walking toward the parking lot when suddenly a woman called my name. I stopped and turned to look at the woman who spoke.
"Are you Miss Raina Cervantes?" she asked me. Her face was serious, and she seemed strict. She looked glamorous, so anyone could guess that she was wealthy.
"Yes, I am. What can I do for you?" I answered her politely. I wondered what she needed from me.
"I am Evo's mother. I want to talk to you personally, that's why I came to see you. Follow me." She turned her back on me and walked towards the black limousine parked near my car.
I noticed that Evo's mother is somewhat demanding. Well, wouldn't you be demanding if you were a billionaire?
I just shrugged my shoulders and silently followed her. Like her, her driver-bodyguard also opened the door for me.
As I sat on the soft seat, I suddenly felt nervous. I'm sure we will talk about Evo and me. She must have already heard about Evo canceling his engagement with Rina because of me.
"What are we going to talk about, Mrs. Mondragon? Is it about Evo and me?" I asked her frankly. It's better not to beat around the bush so that neither of us wastes time and effort.
"Ma'am Emilia. Call me Ma'am Emilia," she authoritatively instructed me. Her personality is intimidating, but I tried not to show her that I was intimidated.
"Ma'am Emilia. What do you need from me?" I followed her request. I secretly took a deep breath. It seems like my wedding with Evo might not push through. I don't have a good feeling about what Evo's mother is going to tell me.
"I'm glad that you understand quickly, Raina. Don't be surprised why I know your name. That's not the only thing I know about you, so you can't hide anything from me," she said to me, her serious expression still unchanged. When I didn't comment on what she said, she continued speaking. "I won't beat around the bush anymore, Raina. I want you to leave my son. You're not the woman I want for him. I don't want you to marry my son. And I hope you won't be stubborn. This is for your own good."
My hands tightened the grip on the strap of my handbag upon hearing what Evo's mother said. My suspicion was correct. She wanted to talk about me and her son.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am Emilia. But I cannot do what you're asking me to do. Please give me a solid reason why I should follow what you want to happen," I calmly replied to her.
The inside of the car is cold because the air conditioning is strong, but I am sweating. I'm embarrassed to wipe my sweat because it will show that I'm nervous talking to her.
Evo's mother didn't like my answer, so her face suddenly darkened. "Because I told you to do it. No. I command you, to be exact. But since you want a reason why I don't like you to be my daughter-in-law, then I will tell you this; first, I don't like women who are homewreckers. Secondly, I don't want my son to marry a liar. Lastly, I don't want a daughter-in-law with a bad attitude. And you possess all those qualities I mentioned, Raina."
I secretly took a deep sigh at what Evo's mother said to me. Where did she get those bad things she heard about me? And who does she want to be her daughter-in-law? Rina? She doesn't know the true nature of my half-sister yet. Whatever behavior Rina showed her, I am sure it was just for show. My sister just wants to leave a good impression and a good image to her future mother-in-law.
"You are Evo's mother, so I respect you. But that is not a reason for you to speak ill of me. You don't know me. And are you sure the news you received about me is correct?"
"I didn't expect you to be stubborn and shameless, Raina. Well, I'm not surprised anymore. You even managed to make my son take responsibility for your child with another man because you're capable," she insulted me.
"If you want our wedding not to proceed, then you better talk to Evo, Ma'am Emilia. I did not force myself on him. I did not force him to marry me," I said coldly to her. My chest felt heavy from holding back my anger and refraining from speaking badly, I still had to respect her because she was the mother of the man I was going to marry. The grandmother of the baby in my womb. "If you have nothing more to say, I will get out of your car."
I didn't wait for her to answer. I immediately opened the door, hurriedly went out, and walked towards my car. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief after getting out of Evo's mother's fancy vehicle.
"Are you alright, Raina?"
I almost jumped in surprise when I heard Evo's voice from behind me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him with a frown. Does he know that his mother was going to talk to me, that's why he came here?
"I came here to pick you up and invite you to dinner. But I saw you talking to my mom, so I just waited for your conversation to finish," he answered me, then held both of my hands and gently squeezed them. "Did my mom say something bad to you?"
Before I could answer him, the limousine door opened again and Evo's mother's head peeked out.
"Come here, Evo. I also wanted to talk with you," she called Evo with the same tone as she spoke to me earlier.
"Wait for me here." Evo let go of my hand and then walked towards his mother's car and went inside. Evo didn't stay long inside the car and quickly came out. However, when he stepped out, his face was dark and his jaw was clenched, so I was certain that he had argued with his mother. And I was sure that I was the reason for their argument. "Let's go." He grabbed one of my arms and pulled me away from the parking lot.
"Wait, Evo. What about my car?"
"Pit will drive your car back to your house," he answered me seriously. The person he referred to is one of his two bodyguards.
I stopped walking and removed his hand that was holding me, facing him seriously. "I think we should stop our wedding, Evo. Your mom doesn't like me. She won't accept me. Me and my baby."
"I will marry you, Raina. And that is final," he firmly replied before grabbing my arm again and pulling me towards his parked car.
I could only let out a deep sigh. It seems like "you and me against the world" will be the drama of my love life. Many are opposed to our wedding, so I no longer hope it will happen. And I feel that Evo's mother won't be my only problem. I sense that there is an even bigger problem I will face because of Evo.
