Rejected Under the Full Moon
Chapter One –
Moonridge High looked normal in the daytime.
Lockers slammed. Teachers yelled. Students complained about homework.
But at night, the truth came out.
Luna Gray stood on the football field, her hands shaking inside the sleeves of her hoodie. The grass was cold under her shoes. The full moon hung high above the school, bright and cruel.
Tonight was her eighteenth birthday.
Tonight, the mate bond would appear.
Every werewolf student stood around the field. Seniors. Juniors. Even teachers. Everyone whispered. Everyone watched.
Luna swallowed hard.
She searched the crowd and found Ethan Cole.
He stood at the center of the field like he owned it. Tall. Strong. Confident. His golden eyes glowed under the moonlight. He was the Alpha of Moonridge High. The most popular boy. The future pack leader.
And he was her secret.
She had loved him for years. Quietly. Silently. From far away.
The wind shifted.
Pain exploded in Luna’s chest.
She gasped and grabbed her heart. Her knees almost gave out. Heat rushed through her body. Her wolf stirred inside her, crying out.
She knew.
Her mate.
Luna lifted her head and looked at Ethan.
Ethan froze.
His smile vanished. His eyes darkened. Shock flashed across his face—then anger.
“No,” he muttered.
The whispers grew louder.
“An omega?”
“His mate is her?”
“You’ve got to be joking.”
Ethan walked toward Luna. Each step felt heavy. Final.
Hope bloomed in her chest anyway. Stupid hope.
“Ethan,” she whispered.
He stopped in front of her and looked down like she was something embarrassing.
“I reject you,” he said loudly.
The words hit her like a slap.
Gasps filled the air.
“I won’t mate with a weak nobody,” Ethan continued. “You’re poor. You’re low-rank. You don’t belong with me.”
Pain ripped through Luna’s body. The bond shattered. It felt like her heart was breaking into pieces.
She dropped to her knees.
Tears burned her eyes. Her chest hurt so badly she could barely breathe.
No one helped her.
The moon stayed silent.
Then—
Someone clapped.
Slow. Calm. Mocking.
All heads turned toward the bleachers.
A boy stood there, dressed in black. Hands in his pockets. Silver eyes glowing like moonlight on steel.
No one recognized him.
But every wolf felt him.
Power rolled off him like a warning.
He jumped down onto the field and walked toward Luna.
Ethan stiffened. “Who are you?”
The boy ignored him.
He knelt in front of Luna and met her eyes.
“You look better without him,” he said casually.
Luna blinked through tears. “Excuse me?”
He smiled. Slow. Dangerous. “Name’s Kai.”
He stood and looked straight at Ethan.
“If you’re stupid enough to reject the moon’s gift,” Kai said, voice calm but deadly, “then I’ll take her.”
The moon flared bright.
Energy rushed through Luna again—stronger, darker, warmer.
A new bond formed.
Ethan stepped back.
For the first time in his life, the Alpha of Moonridge High felt fear.
And Luna Gray realized one thing very clearly:
Getting rejected was only the beginning.
