The Fractured Wife

Chapter 6

Roma was stunned when the car pulled up in front of a massive house. “Is this your house Jane?” Roma’s eyes were wide as she looked at her sister. The house was huge with a wrap-around porch. White marble columns each side of the big solid door. Jane couldn’t stop laughing at her sister’s reaction to the house. If this is her reaction to her house what till Roma sees her house that was next door. Jane opened the back door and the boys stepped out of the car with their eyes like saucers seeing the house and the open space. 

“Auntie Jane, can we play later?” Conan asked sheepishly pointing to the ball lying in the middle of the road. 

“Sure but I’m sure you must be hungry after your journey. We will get something to eat before I show you around, OK?” Jane replied to Conan. They left the car parked and proceeded to the door when it was opened suddenly by Stefan. “Honey this is my sister Roma and her sons, Grant and Conan,” Jane said to her husband with a smile that was dripping with emotion. Ruth hung her head as she felt uncomfortable meeting her sister’s husband and raised her hand to shake the rough hand of her brother in law. Stefan grabbed Ruth’s hand and pulled her into a hug smiling as he has heard so much about his wife’s sister. “We don’t do handshakes with family here,” Stefan said looking at his nephews who were standing behind their mother. Ruth felt like her legs were going to give out on her as she has never felt this relieved with a simple hug. She broke away from the hug and motioned to her sons to come and meet their Uncle.

“Stefan these are my sons Grant and Conan.” Ruth pointing to each one as she said their names. Conan hid behind his brother’s legs acting shy when he meets new people. Grant proceeded to hold his hand out to Stefan but was pulled into a manly hug from his Uncle. 

“Um… Auntie Jane said you had an amazing Koenigsegg Agera RS here. Can I have a look please?” Grant asked his Uncle nervously looking down at his shoes.

“You into cars? Well, that particular car is in the garage there if you want to have a look and then you would like to help me build the car I’m currently working on? If that’s OK with your mum.” Stefan turning and pressing a button opening the garage. 

Grant couldn’t believe what his Uncle was saying but started jumping around and hugging everyone that he could. “Thank you that would be amazing! Mum, can I go and have a look please?” Grant asked his mother with so much excitement he could hardly contain himself. 

“How about you get settled then go and have a look. You have a lot of time to look but we need to the important things first.” Roma said laughing at her son high-fiving everyone. Grant stopped jumping around and sulked but his eyes were glued to the garage as he mumbled to himself. “OK” Grant finally said but he knew that he was going straight to the garage to see the car of his dreams sooner rather than later. 

Roma looked around the grounds and noticed there was other houses dotted around her sister’s house and wondered to herself if he would be able to make friends with some of the neighbours. Jane walked into her home with her sister and nephews following gasping and gawping at the inside of the home she had with Stefan. Their décor was a mixture of modern and traditional with light wooden bookcases and display cabinets situated around the rooms. The living room had a modern feel with a huge TV situated on the wall facing the door and leather couches situated around the room that was cream leather and looked like they would swallow you if you sat down. There was a traditional kitchen with a big cooking range with 12 rings and light wood cabinets and a light wooden island in the middle of the room. 

“Jane this house is beautiful!” Roma exclaimed as she took in every single detail. She ran her hands along the counters and wondered how her sister managed to keep a house like this clean. 

“Thank you, Roma, I’m happy I am able to finally have you here. Been wanting to invite you here for so long.” Jane said as she side hugged her sister. 

Listen tell you what I’ll stick the kettle on and we can get caught up and the boys can go exploring their new community and make friends. 

“You hear that? I can go to play outside and make new friends.” Conan started running as fast as his little legs would carry him out of the door. 

“Can I check out the garage now mum? PLEASE.” Grant asked shuffling from side to side. He was itching to check out his favourite car. 

“As long as you keep an eye on your brother, go on then” Roma said laughing as grant ran out of the door hitting the garage button on his way out. 

Roma sat at the island in the kitchen watching Jane make them a cup of tea. After the tea was placed in front of Roma she inhaled greedily and closed her eyes taking in the flavour. 

“Mmmm heaven been years since I have had a decent cup of tea,” Roma said as she knew she was going to have to tell her sister what happened between her and Frank. She didn’t want to look up as she knew her sister was watching her.
