Bound by fate
THE BLOOD PRISONER
CHAPTER ONE
“If you die, I die, because my blood is f*****g bonded with yours!”
Elijah's voice thundered through the room.
His ocean-blue eyes blazed with rage as his grip tightened around Kathryn's skin.
She flinched.
The pain made her breath catch, but his words frightened her even more.
“If you die…”
His blood was bonded with hers.
And she had no idea what that meant for her life.
“But I…” Her voice trembled. “I didn't ask to be bonded.”
His gaze darkened instantly.
“Yes, you did,” he snapped. “By being reckless. By walking into things you didn't understand.”
Kathryn's lips parted, but no words came out.
She shouldn't have been there that day.
She knew it.
One decision. One careless moment.
And now she was tied to something she couldn't even begin to understand.
Something that felt less like fate and more like a punishment she never deserved.
Silence stretched between them.
Elijah finally released her, but the relief she expected never came. His anger hadn't disappeared. It had only changed.
He moved closer.
Kathryn's back met the space behind her, leaving her nowhere to retreat. Her body remained still, even as her mind screamed at her to run.
She hated that stillness.
Hated how fear could betray her when she needed herself most.
Moonlight slipped through the curtains, spilling into the room like silver judgment. It outlined him, sharpening every edge and softening nothing.
His ocean-blue eyes caught the light.
For a moment, they didn't seem human.
There was something catlike about them. Something wolf-like. Something predatory.
Kathryn's pulse stuttered violently.
And yet, she couldn't look away.
She was still staring at him, still breathing him in, as though danger had become something familiar.
Elijah exhaled sharply and dragged a hand through his hair. It was as though he were trying to restrain something inside himself.
“Listen, Kathryn.”
His voice was lower now, controlled but dangerous.
“Don't make me hurt you before I figure out how to break this bond. And until then, you're not leaving my sight.”
He turned away.
Kathryn's eyes widened.
“What?”
Her voice broke.
“No, I can't… I can't do that.”
Her body trembled as the words rushed out.
“I have a life out there! My job… my parents. There's no way I'm spending my days here like some… some prisoner!”
Elijah stopped.
Slowly, he turned back, one eyebrow lifting as though she had said something almost amusing.
Then he scoffed.
“As if you have a say here.”
The words didn't land like a threat.
They landed like a verdict.
Kathryn's breath stalled. Her fingers curled slightly as she tried to hold herself together.
“You can't just decide that.”
Even she could hear the crack in her voice.
Elijah turned fully toward her, moving with a deliberate calm that made her feel as though she had no control over what happened next.
“I already did.”
He said it calmly.
That calmness was worse than the anger.
Kathryn shook her head and stepped forward despite the unsteadiness in her legs.
“No. You don't understand. I have responsibilities. People will look for me!”
A faint, humorless smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“Let them.”
Her stomach dropped.
“Are you insane?” she whispered.
The question escaped before she could stop it.
Elijah's expression sharpened.
He walked closer, stopping just a breath away. He wasn't touching her, but she could still feel the weight of his presence.
“When this bond activates fully,” he said quietly, “it doesn't matter where you go. It pulls. It reacts. It exposes.”
Kathryn swallowed hard.
“And if I let you wander around clueless…”
His eyes held hers.
“You'll get us both killed.”
Kathryn stared at him.
“Us?”
His eyes flickered at that word.
Just for a second, something unreadable passed through them before it disappeared.
“Yes,” he said flatly. “Us.”
The silence that followed felt heavier than before.
Kathryn looked away first.
“So what?” she whispered. “I just stay here? Locked up? Waiting for you to decide my life for me?”
His jaw tightened slightly.
“You stay alive.”
He paused.
“That's the priority.”
“That's not an answer!”
Her voice rose.
“That's control!”
The change in him was instant.
Elijah's expression darkened, and before she could react, he grabbed her.
Not hard enough to break her, but hard enough to silence her.
“Don't get on my f*****g nerves,” he growled.
His voice was low and dangerous.
“Stay here quietly until I get back.”
Then he shoved her backward.
Kathryn lost her balance and fell hard onto the floor.
The impact knocked the breath out of her.
For a moment, she couldn't move.
By the time she looked up, Elijah was already turning away.
The door clicked open.
He walked out.
Kathryn struggled to catch her breath as her mind raced.
She had a life outside those walls.
Her job.
Her parents.
People who would look for her.
But none of that seemed to matter to him.
The door clicked shut.
Then came the lock.
Final.
Kathryn stared at it, her hands trembling.
She was trapped.
Bound to a man whose blood was connected to hers.
A man who had just decided she wasn't leaving.
And she still didn't know how to break the bond.
