Bad Memories

Chase P.O.V “Chase, is the reason the council is so adamant about me finding my mate because I’m the only female Alpha in the US?” I asked, looking over at him. He looked uncomfortable, like he knew something. Sometimes I think he forgets that I know him all too well. “Spill it. Now.” I didn’t want to use my Alpha tone, but I was real close. “The council is under pressure from the other packs. They don’t think a female should be alpha. “He tried to look away from me, but was having a hard time. “Who?” I asked through my teeth as I stared at the map. “Who what, Bailey?” I could hear the slight fear in his voice. “Who is pressuring them? Who thinks we’re weak because I’m the Alpha?” I replayed the last ten seconds in my head quickly after seeing her eyes. “Bailey, calm down. The council didn’t give a name. I could ask the next time they call though. “I tried to reassure her, even though I knew exactly who was questioning things. I couldn’t tell her that at this very moment though, her wolf was right at the edge of coming out. Once I saw her eyes shift back I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.  “You know, it’s kinda nice seeing you get all worked up.” I said teasingly with a smirk. She slapped my arm as she went to sit back down at the desk. It had been too long to see her so defensive of our lands and her spot. Even three months ago, she wouldn’t have been so possessive. I was pretty excited about it, maybe this acting to be back, would really mean she was back. The pack needed that. They needed their Alpha to be whole again. I was just about to say something about the Summit when the doors to the office flew open, Camden storming in. He never acted like this. “Cam? What is it?” Bailey asked before I could and he looked between the two of us while catching his breath. “Rouges. They hit the town. “ He was looking at me, and I was staring at Bailey. This would be a defining moment for her. Rouges were a very, very sore subject for her. Her face was stone, though. Just like an Alpha’s should be in this situation. “Take a team to the town. Tell Ty and Matt to round up two more teams of warriors for back up. Double patrols around the pack. Chase, get the women, children and elderly into the safe house. “ Gods I missed her powerful voice. Cam and I both nodded. “Yes Alpha.” We said in unison and Cam left right then. I looked back at her before leaving. “B, what are you going to do?” She looked up from the papers on her desk, eyes black. “I’m going to hunt some Rouges. Meet me at the edge of the woods once everyone is safe. Put Titus in charge.” I wasn’t thrilled with her tone of voice, it meant her wolf was in full control. “Yes Alpha.” I said before leaving to get everyone to the safe house. “Chase!” I heard the female voice and turned to look at her. “Macy! When did you get back?” I asked, startled to see her. She’d left on pack business a month ago and she was one of our very best warriors. “Like ten minutes ago. Before s**t hit the fan. Is it true, what Ty said? She’s finally out of her room?” Her eyes held so much hope. I nodded. “Yeah. Help me get everyone to the safe house and then I’ll fill you in.” For a moment I’d almost forgotten what I was doing. As Macy helped me round up everyone in the safe house, I linked Titus to come guard. When he got there, he seemed out of breath. “I was….following the Alpha.” He said taking a deep breath. I nodded before motioning to the safe house. “Bailey said to put you in charge until we get back. “ His eyes widened and gave a nod. I could hear Macy groan. Obviously she didn’t agree with this. “Mace you weren’t here. “ I said before heading to the woods, where Bailey told me to meet her. I could smell her rose scent as we got closer. She was already in wolf form. It’d been six months since her wolf was able to take over and run. They both needed this. The Alpha’s eyes landed on Macy before practically pushing me out of the way and pouncing on the woman right behind me. I had to chuckle slightly. Then the smell hit me. It was like death and hatred all in one. I gave a growl, causing the two behind me to focus. “Aw, isn’t she just the cutest thing you ever did see boys?” A voice came from the edge of the trees, dripping with desire and something dark. I couldn’t put my finger on it. He sounded like he was toying with us. I could hear Bailey whimper slightly behind me. I’d almost forgotten she was in wolf form. “I know that voice. Chase. “ Her mind-link came just as the man stepped out of the shadows. I heard Macy gasp softly and I turned to look at her. Bailey had turned back into her human form and she was pulling clothes over herself. “You know, I new this pack would be weak after what happened to you. I didn’t think they’d be stupid though.” His icy voice said with a equally icy laugh, his eyes landing on my Alpha. Bailey P.OV. I watched as Chase processed what I just mind-linked him. I knew the Rouge before us. Just looking at him sent a shiver down my spine, and not a good one. I felt Macy grab my hand and squeeze. I was beyond glad she was back at this moment. I hadn’t been the best friend, or Alpha lately, but everyone seemed to be okay with that. They gave me the space I needed to heal, even if it was just a little bit. His icy voice broke through my thoughts. My pack was not stupid. What was he talking about. I was about to step up when I caught the scent. His scent. I whimpered and cowered back. Chase noticed this and took a step back, getting closer to me. “Bailey, what is going on?” Chase mind linked me, his eyes never leaving the Rouge in front of him. “It’s them. It’s the same Rouges from six months ago. Chase, he’s here too. I just smelt him. I’m not strong enough for this I can’t… I can’t “ “Shhhh. B, you’re stronger than you think. Don’t let them do this to you.” Chase was right, at some point I needed to stand up for myself. Though, tonight probably wasn’t going to be that night. “We just wanted to see how our favorite Alpha was doing. “ The Rouge said licking his lips slightly, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Dominic, stop teasing.” My eyes widened at the sound of his voice. It was still powerful. It was still terrifying. He knew better than to step out into the open, right? Surly they he didn’t want anyone to know who he was. “Sorry, alpha. It’s just so hard with how delicious she looks.” He bowed his head slightly, but his eyes didn’t leave me. Chase growled, which made the Rouges around us growl. “We aren’t here to cause trouble….this time. Just to warn you. We’re still here. We can take this pack at any point. We can take you at any point. “ His voice came again and I couldn’t help the small whimper that escaped my lips. Then in a blink of an eye, they were all gone. What just happened? Why did they come back? “I thought they were dead.” I squeaked out, my fists balled up and my chest was tightening. Chase turned to me and pulled me close. My knees became weak and I melted into Chase. “Ty and Matt are coming, B. Let’s get you inside.” His words were soft and soothing as he picked me up bridal style and head to the pack house. Macy was close behind us, keeping her eyes open. I thought they were gone, that we took care of them. How are they even here? This has to be some kind of trick, some illusion a witch is playing. But they smelt so real. I could feel Chase tighten his hold on me. He was so tense. ‘What are you thinking?’ I had to ask him, but I knew saying it out loud wasn’t an option. ‘I’m going to kill them. Every last one of them. ‘ A shiver went down my spine I as he spoke those words. I knew he was serious, but this was different. He sounded different. “We need to head to the Summit. I know there’s already a few packs there, we can’t stay here. “ Chase said as he put me down inside the house. I shook my head. “Absolutely not. If we run to the Summit, the other packs will think we are weak, that we can’t hold our ground against some Rouges. “ I was pacing at this point, both Macy and Chase watching me closely. “These weren’t just some Rouges, Bailey. They were the ones that nearly killed you six months ago. We couldn’t stop them then, what makes you think we’re ready for them this time?” Chase was raising his voice at me, something he never did. Macy was gawking at him, clearly surprised that he took that tone with me. But I didn’t blame him. He was partly right. Partly. I was about to open my mouth to say something, when Ty and Matt walked in. Both engulfing me in their arms. I could feel the fear, the worry, the sadness coming off them. They didn’t want to lose me again. “I do need to breathe, guys.” I said after a minute or two between the two of them. They both chuckled and let go, giving me space. ‘B, it’s time to tell them. They deserve to know more than anyone.’ Macy’s voice came clear as day, and I looked over at her. Her green eyes were begging me. She knew more than they did about what happened six months ago. I couldn’t bring myself to tell the boys. They were all so protective over me. The guys were chatting with each other, apparently Cam joined us at some point and I hadn’t noticed. I could hear them talking about how to prepare for something like this again. How to handle the situation better. I felt someone next to me and looked over. Macy had moved from the other side of the room to right next to me. ‘I’ll be right here, the entire time. ‘ Thank gods for mind-link. I cleared my throat and they stopped talking to look at me. “I have to tell you guys something. I don’t want you to say a word until I’m finished. And I swear if any of you, any of you, do something stupid, I will not hesitate to remove you from my pack.” ‘s**t just got serious.’ Macy’s mind link almost made me laugh, which would have ruined the serious moment. She was absolutely the worst with timing. The guys were just staring at me. I had their full attention, which was good, because they were not going to like what they heard. “I rarely believe the Moon Goddess makes a mistake. In fact, I’ve never thought she’s made a mistake my entire life. Until six months ago.” I felt Macy grab my hand and squeeze. Chase raised his brow, I could feel the intensity of his stare.  “Luther Gunthry. He was the Alpha we just encountered. The Rouge Alpha. “ I saw their eyes widen at how I knew his name. “He was my mate.”
