Chapter 08: Identity Theft

“You’re hired. Welcome to the team, Lucy,” Charlotte welcomed Ginger with a sweet smile as she shook Ginger’s hand. Ginger was not thrilled to work as her rival’s secretary, but if she wanted to take revenge, she should endure her current situation. She had to get closer to Charlotte and Charlie, find their weaknesses, break them apart, and sabotage their entire life. Out of hatred, she wanted to ruin them. “Thank you, Charlotte,” Ginger said, plastering a smile on her face. “I am looking forward to working with you.” “How soon can you start?” Charlotte asked and let go of Ginger’s hand. “I can start —” Ginger trailed off when someone knocked on the door, and from the other side, Ginger heard a very familiar voice that made her heart ache. “It’s Charlie. Can I come in?” he asked. It’s been three months since she last saw him, and she missed him. Flashes of her memories with him from yesterday came back. ‘Stay strong, Ginger,’ she thought to herself. ‘That man betrayed you. He turned his back when you were fighting cancer. During your darkest days. Don’t be fooled by love.’ “Come in,” Charlotte responded. From behind Ginger, she could hear the door open and footsteps walking in. Ginger watched Charlie grab Charlotte by her waist and pull her closer for a forehead kiss. Witnessing that scene made Ginger’s heart ache. It almost made her run away, but she didn’t. Charlotte giggled flirtatiously at Charlie’s gesture, and Ginger had to stop herself from making a disgusted reaction. Instead, she just rolled her eyes in her mind. ‘Look at them, acting like didn’t hurt anyone,’ Ginger thought. ‘These two sure never disappoint, do they?’ Charlotte flirtatiously pushed Charlie away and giggled. “Come on, don’t be like that. Our new employee is here, so let’s give a good example and be professional.” Charlotte said. Charlie stepped back and composed himself. “Sorry about that. It’s just that you’re irresistible that I forgot that we’re at work right now.” Charlie responded. Ginger clenched her fist tightly, digging her sharp nails into her palm at the sight of them flirting with one another. ‘This must be what they were doing behind my back,’ When Charlie and Ginger’s eyes met, her heart fluttered. Charlie smiled at her and said, “So, you must be the new employee.” Ginger forced a smile. “Yes, that’s me. You may call me Lucy.” “It’s nice to meet you, Lucy. We’re really glad to have you on our team.” Charlie extended his hand for a handshake, which Ginger hesitantly took and shook professionally. “Likewise,” she started. “It’s wonderful to be in your team.” “So, can you start tomorrow?” Charlotte asked. “Of course, I’d love to start immediately,” Ginger responded. “Great! See you tomorrow, then,” Charlotte said. “It’s nice to meet you again, Lucy.” Ginger smiled, spun her heels, and walked out the door. She closed the door behind her, leaving the two traitors alone inside Charlotte’s office. Ginger took a deep breath, trying to stop the tears that were about to stream down her face. She didn’t run away and decided to stay for a while so she could eavesdrop and see if she could get more information that she could use for revenge. ᯓ★ “There is something about that girl that I couldn’t shrug off,” Charlie said as soon as Ginger left the room. “Something’s not right.” Charlotte raised a brow. “What do you mean by that?” she placed a hand on her hip and smiled. “I think that she would make a great asset to our business.” “You think?” Charlotte nodded. “She has the necessary experiences and skills that we need to grow our company,” she pointed out. “She also has a pleasing personality — she’s pretty, gorgeous, and confident. She could be a great representative to our partners.” Charlie was still in doubt about Lucy, who is Ginger in disguise, but he ended up agreeing with Charlotte. “I guess you’re right. Let’s just observe her first and see how long she could last in our company.” “Do you think she couldn’t last?” “Well, she looked fragile and needed a little bit of work,” Charlie said. “But then again, we should not judge a book by its cover. Let’s just test her.” “That’s true. She’s going to be under probation for 6 months, anyway,” Charlotte said. “Enough about work,” Charlie said and then pulled Charlotte by her waist and said using a husky voice, “Why don’t we take a break, if you know what I mean?” Charlie’s hand slowly traced Charlotte’s cleavage, making Charlotte smile. “You naughty beast,” Charlotte giggled. “I have a baby bump. You think that we could do it?” “Try me,” Charlie’s hand made its way inside Charlotte’s skirt, sliding two fingers inside her panties and started thrusting her hard and fast, which made Charlotte squirm and moan seductively in pleasure, making her panties wet and never wanting Charlie to stop. From the other side of the door, a broken girl’s heart was crushed even more upon hearing the noises the traitors were making. The thought of Charlie, making love to another girl tore her heart into pieces. ‘I shouldn’t have stayed here. I should go.’ ᯓ★ Ginger hired Mikael, an expert investigator, to investigate what happened to her business. She knew that her business wouldn’t get sabotaged by someone far. “I want to know why my business owed $30,000,000 to the bank. It didn’t make sense because, before I was confined in the hospital, my business was making a lot of money. It was growing.” Ginger told Mikael. Mikael handed over a couple of papers and responded, “Here’s what I found out so far. Someone stole money from your company.” Ginger took the papers and started flipping through each page; her eyebrows were furrowed, and her eyes were glued to the papers. Those are the statements of account (SOA) from the months when Ginger was confined and suffering alone inside the hospital. “How’s this possible? I didn’t apply for a card that anyone could use to withdraw my money,” Ginger continued flipping the papers. “I only have a checkbook to avoid this from happening.” Ginger was so cautious when it came to her money. She didn’t apply for a debit and credit card because even though those cards have a PIN, it is possible that someone can get access, unlike when you’re using a checkbook, the bank will require your signature and ID before withdrawing the money. “Identity theft,” Mikael concluded. “My theory is that someone stole your money from your bank.” “Even so, the bank has a way of detecting identity theft,” Ginger said. “I have a hunch who might be the culprit, but first, to find very strong evidence so we could fight and put the jerks behind bars.”
