The air rang with the sound of a shot being fired and one of the rogues took a step back as something hit its shoulder. Another shot followed, then another, pulling Jamie out of his stupor, enough to make him look behind the woodpile. His eyes widened as he stared at Nikki slowly walking towards them, a big rifle propped on her shoulder and eye staring at the rogues through the rifle sight. Lola walked a few feet behind her, face pale as a sheet and hands shaking as she squeezed another rifle and pressed the trigger, her jaw tightening every time the recoil of the rifle hit her shoulder. Three wolves moved in front of them, teeth bared and furs bristling, but judging by their size and hesitant postures, they must have all been omegas. “Move your ass, Jamie! This ain’t a goddamn picnic!
