It was unbelievable. I knew I shouldn’t have gone to town to see her arrive. My uncle had instructed me to wait until he sent a message for me to leave for the South. He promised to handle retrieving Laelia, but I had to see her. I had to catch even a glimpse, and I did. She rode through town beside Ashes—the dragon I despised more than words could express. He wasn’t worthy of riding alongside her or claiming her as his wife. I wanted nothing more than to “k!dnap” her right there and escape, but it wasn’t that simple. So, I remained hidden in the shadows, cloaked in an old, brown cape and hooded, watching her. She looked well—healthy. It seemed she hadn’t endured the same torment I had.
