I stared at the paper in my hand. My uncle’s message was still hard to believe, even after reading it multiple times.
“What’s wrong?” Serina entered the room where we had been staying for weeks. Her expression was filled with concern as she approached and settled on the couch by the fireplace, facing me. She glanced at the paper, and I held it out for her to read.
“My uncle… he failed to bring my sister back,” I explained.
“So, that means…?”
“It means the dragons still have her,” I sighed.
I rubbed my hands together, feeling anger swell inside me. I couldn’t bear the thought of my sister remaining in their grasp, but there was nothing we could do now. We had missed our chance.
“So what happens next?” she inquired.
“Now we proceed with the plan.”
