They All Knew

Aurora’s POV

I stood in the doorway just staring at him. It was weird, I’ve known him since I was four but it was like I was seeing him for the first time. Like he was completely different yet entirely the same. His hair was more blonde than it’s ever been, from the sun on his travels I take it, longer on the top and nearly non existent on the sides. His eyes looking like the sky on a clear sunny day, freckles scattered across his nose and cheeks, his tanned skin looking like the sun kissed every inch of his beautiful body. His arms are much larger than before and I can see his abs through his tight work out shirt. His sweat pants hugging his waist and falling loosely around his legs. He’s towering above me at six foot five, a whole foot taller than me. I know I hadn’t seen him in four years but I never looked at him as I was right now. I was attracted to him. I could feel the sparks igniting between us, urging me to touch him. I can’t believe this, I’m feeling attracted to HIM! As I was lost in the thoughts of him he broke the silence.

“Ror?” He spoke quietly as to not startle me. My thoughts completely yielded at the sound of his voice.

“You smell like pine,” was all I could get out. He giggled at me, “you smell like honey.”

“No, I can’t. I can’t do this.” I took a step back from him as I felt the tears forming in my eyes. I turned my back to him and started to run, shifting into Harmony as I did moving as fast as possible from the house.

“RORY!” He yelled out to me and started to chase after me, only to have my dad, his dad stand in front of him. He placed his hands on his shoulders forcing him to meet his eyes.

“Let her go, son. She needs to work this out.” I heard my dad say as I sprinted away.

Harmony’s POV

“We need to go back, he’s our mate. We need to be with him!”

“NO! We need space, I need space. I don’t understand, how the hell can he be my mate!? He’s my fu**ing brother for Goddess sake!”

“Oh come on, he’s not your biological brother and you know the Goddess has a plan for everything. This is her plan. You know him Rory. Now stop panicking.”

I kept running Rory forcing me in any direction except the house when suddenly something occurred to her, “he wasn’t surprised.”

“What?”

“When he opened the door, there was no shock, surprise, nothing but concern for me on his face. Why wouldn’t he-“

“Rory, come on. I’m sure-.” Harmony started but I quickly interrupted.

“He knew. He knew before he went away.”

“Rory-“

“No no no no no, think about it Harmony, he knew. When else could he have discovered it and not been surprised?”

“Okay maybe that’s true-“

Aurora’s POV

I started blocking her out now, I didn’t need to hear her defending him anymore. He left right after he turned 18 so that had to be it. He discovered I was his mate and he didn’t tell me. I felt Harmony getting angry I was blocking her out when suddenly she slammed her feet against the ground, forcing me to stop and my block to drop.

“AURORA MAE!” She roared at me, challenging me within her mind.

“If Jett knew he knew, but the way you’re reacting is RIDICULOUS! This man has only ever loved and protected you from the time you were four years old until this very day, he only kept this a secret from you to PROTECT YOU!”

“Sure, okay, let’s run with that. Say he was doing it to protect me Harmony, I could understand when he left. Fourteen with no idea what the mate bond is all about but what about two years later? What about when I got you? How many mates have we seen discover the bond since my first shift, how many times have we seen and started to understand that pull?! He could have told me when I got you, Harmony!!”

“He could have but maybe there’s more to it than you realize. We need to give him a chance to explain. We owe him that. He’s important. Give me control, I know where we need to go.”

I relinquished control and allowed Harmony to direct us as I thought.

I see what she’s saying but it doesn’t change the fact that Jett broke my trust. He has always been the one person I could never keep a secret from, that knows me through and through and to find out he’s kept this from me for all this time it hurts. I feel a small tear fall from Harmony’s eye as we look into the water. She brought me to the stream just a few miles from my home, it’s the place I always ran to when I was upset. With how I’m feeling right now, this was the perfect place.

“I know you’re upset Rory, I know you feel like he broke your trust. But can’t we at least give him the opportunity to explain?” She asked calmly as she stared into the eyes of her reflection, letting me know she is looking at me. I forget sometimes how beautiful and wise she is. Her forest brown coat with her white chest and socks, those hazel eyes to match mine suiting her perfectly. I know she’s right. I start to shift back, now sitting by the stream just staring at the reflection I see in the mirror everyday. Every inch of my body glistening off the water when suddenly it hits me. Pine.

“Hi Jett.” I said smiling even though I wanted to be angry, his scent brought a calmness to me. I guess that was part of the mate bond.

“Hey Ror. I brought you some clothes.” I sat frozen, realizing I am naked in front of him.

“I guess Harmony knew you would find me.”

“Well this is where I always found you when you needed space, so I figured might be a good place to start.”

I slowly rose and turned to meet his gaze. His eyes never left mine as I walked towards him. I’m his mate, naked in front of him. Male wolves have a hard time controlling themselves when their mates are fully clothed so I’m amazed at his self control. As I close the gap between us I feel the sparks igniting again, pushing me to touch him. There’s barely any space between us at all now, so I reach up and place my hand on his chest. A small moan escapes his lips, “I shouldn’t, I’m sorry,” I say quickly as I remove my hand.

“No,” he speaks softly and his face falls a little, “please don’t be sorry.” We stand there for a moment just staring at one another in complete silence while the sparks are turning into flames being so close together. I find myself wanting to touch him which causes me to break this silence, “I should get dressed.” He starts to frown, but he lifts it quickly and grins a little.

“Yeah, yeah you should.”

I take the clothes from his hands only to realize they aren’t mine, they’re his.

“Sorry, you rearranged your room from how it was at the old house. No idea where any of your clothes are and I didn’t want you to get cold. ”

“It’s okay,” I say as I slide on his extra extra large tshirt over my small frame and his gym shorts literally are falling off of me,

“Can I help?” He offers kindly but not wanting to over step. I stand staring at him for a moment. As much as this mate bond makes me crave his touch, I shake my head and start tying them myself.

“Sorry, I wasn’t trying-“

“No I know. It’s fine,” I pause taking a deep breath “Jett, I need to ask you something.”

“Anything.”

“When did you know I was your mate? And do me a favor, don’t lie cause I already know it was before you left.”

He took a deep breath before he responded,

“The night of my first shift. Troy knew and dad kind of confirmed what I already knew.”

“Wait, dad knew? Mom, Pay, did they know too?”

His eyes became wide as dinner plates holding the most serious of expressions, answering my question without any words. I started to feel the anger in me rising, he started talking trying to explain but I wasn’t even listening at this point. Not only did he keep this from me, but they did too.

“Rory, don’t.” Harmony begged as I took control and made us shift again snarling at Jett.

“Rory, please we were only trying to protect you. Payton only just find out so don’t hold it against him, please. Rory, come back to me.” He was pleading with his tear filled eyes, I growled loudly and took off running towards Hayley’s. They all lied. The people I trust the most lied to me.
