The Reaper

Kanaan’s POV

I can’t believe what I’ve done, I attacked her. Our Luna. I made Maverick attack her.

“Why would you do this? She’s our Luna, we love and respect her! You’ve been meeting with someone for months, blocking me out, then you shift and take control of me. Why Kan?”

“I didn’t have a choice. He’s going to hurt her. She’s my family, the only one that counts and he said if I don’t do as he asks he’ll kill her.”

“Nat. Who has her Kanaan? Who has her!?”

I started to cry as the guilt consumed me causing my block to drop and allowing Maverick into my memories.

*Flashback*

“Kanaan, that’s a unique name.” The man said as he read my name tag at the JuiceShop.

“Thanks my dads a Christian and my moms an atheist. Had to compromise some where right.” We both chuckled. I couldn’t explain it but the guy gave me an eerie feeling.

As I was leaving work that night I saw the guy waiting by my car, “hey man I don’t have time to talk I’m late for this party I’m supposed to be at.”

“I know that’s exactly why I want to talk to you, there’s going to be a girl there that I need you your help with. I need her dead and you’re going to help me.”

“I’m sorry but you’re crazy, I’m not going to help you kill some girl..” this man had to be crazy, no way he was asking me to help him kill someone. I started to open my door when suddenly it was forced shut.

“Oh but you will.” He said in a tone I can only describe as evil.

“And why’s that?”

“Because I have the only person that means anything to you trapped and currently being tortured. Granted the torture will stop as soon as you agree to help me.”

“Your lying. She’s off at school out of state, you wouldn’t even know where to find her.” There’s no way he had Nat.

“See that’s where your wrong, the Harvard campus may be large but when you’re studying law specifically it narrows down the housing aspect of things. She was easy to snatch and even easier to cover up her disappearance as she does much of her studying and practice abroad.” He had her. I knew he had her now.

“OKAY OKAY OKAY! I’ll help you but you have to let her go man. She’s my family, the only one that actually cares about me anyway.”

“We will stop torturing her now, but you will not see her again until you do everything I say.”

“How do I know you will keep your word? How do I know she’ll be okay?”

“Because, young Kanaan, Natalia will do anything for her younger brother just as I know you will do anything to protect her.”

*Flashback Over*

I could feel Maverick’s anger as I remembered the man who took Natalia.

“WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!? I CAN GET HER BACK, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS FIND OUT WHERE HE’S KEEPING HER! I cannot believe you Kanaan. You may have killed our Luna over something that I could fix.”

“He said if I told you, if you tried to come for her he would kill her. I didn’t have a choice Mav..I didn’t have a choice.” I could feel the tears streaming down my face, tears of guilt, anger, hurt. I didn’t want to hurt her, I tried to find any other way to get her back, but he said there was nothing else that would allow me to see her again. I should have listened to his words carefully. He allowed me to see her and that was all. He kept adding conditions, errands and favors that I have to do for him before he’ll release her.

*Flashback*

She looked okay, healthy for the most part. Her wolf had done a good job healing her and I could tell he was feeding and keeping her hydrated. She was dirty from laying on the basement floor of this abandoned old cottage. I came to try and break her out, he wasn’t due back for our meet for at least an hour so I knew this was my only shot. Of course I was quickly defeated, he’s no i***t. Silver chains for the werewolves, that’s why she couldn’t shift and break free. I looked into her grey eyes , it was like looking inside a rain cloud, “I’m going to be okay. Just do what he says within reason, don’t get yourself killed Kan. You’re my life.”

I took her words and kissed her on the forehead. When I came up the stairs, he was sitting in the chair smirking. “Have a nice visit?” He said in such a mocking tone, I could have killed him right there.

“I will do whatever I have to do. Just don’t hurt her.”

“Fine, then give me an update.”

“I got close with that Rory girl like you said, she’s a nice person by the way, we met at the library and my wolf took control. I think he told her to be cautious of me. I can feel his suspiciousness, he knows somethings up even with me blocking him out and keeping things from him.”

“Da**it! Okay then we have to find another approach.” He sat quietly thinking, then he gave me a devilish grin.

“Screw the girl, we shift the plan. We start ruining her life. You will attack the Luna, her mother, if you kill her I’ll move your sister to an actual room.”

“NO,” I shouted at him, “no, I’m not killing my Luna. I know you’re not a wolf so you can’t possibly understand the connections we have to our leaders but it’s literally like a piece of you dies. And even if it wasn’t that way, she doesn’t deserve to die. She is the kindest most genuine woman to ever lead this pack, everyone knows it.” I yelled at him, I couldn’t believe what he was asking me to do.

“You will kill her or I will kill your sister.”

“I don’t understand. You said you wanted this girl dead, why are you wanting to ruin her life now? Why not just kill her and get it over with?”

“You see, young Kanaan, this girl is the reason one of my dearest friends was murdered. Her slut of a mother had an affair producing the girl. He killed her for her infidelity, as was his right. For my friends murder I will ruin her life. The reason I want her dead, I will never give you.”

“If I do this, I want a name. I want to know what I call you whenever I finally rip your throat out.” I was seething in anger at his long pause.

“Reaper. They call me The Reaper.”

*Flashback Over*

“What am I going to do Maverick?”

“Kanaan, for this we will be killed. As we RIGHTFULLY deserve. If she dies we do not deserve to live,” I felt him pushing me to the back of my own mind and starting to shift, “for what you’ve done I am taking control of our body, giving you time to grieve and process what you’ve done and pray that she lives. Because if she doesn’t I will make our lives together a living hell.” I felt myself dwindling in the back of his mind, he has full control now which I should have done to begin with. I should have trusted him, we could have saved Natalia, stopped the Reaper, hell maybe even kill him, but now I know that Maverick will run. He has to to save his own life, all because of me. I started to do the one thing left that I could, mindlink the Moon Goddess:

“All Mother, if you’re listening to me, please PLEASE save our Luna. What I did was unforgivable and I will pay for my crimes no matter the punishment, but please howl your life inside of her so that she may heal and be with those she loves. I’m so sorry All Mother. Just please save her.”
