Aurora’s POV
I mindlinked Jett to meet with me, there was so much I needed to tell him. I had waited to discuss things with him for a while needing time to digest everything that’s happened. From what his mom told me to the most recent events with my dreams/vision I just hoped I wouldn’t be overwhelming him. Especially when I told him my news.
Jett’s POV
Rory sounded serious on our mindlink, but I didn’t want to over think it in case it was really nothing serious I mean how bad could it be compared to all the crap with that Kanaan kid and Charlie showing up here?
“Hey Sweets!” I said as I swung our bedroom door open. Only to find her sitting on the bed with the most serious of expressions on that beautiful face. “Guess that answers that.” I mumbled.
“Huh?” She asked, not quite hearing what I said.
“Nothing, sweetness. What’s going on?”
“I need you to sit down and just listen okay? I have to throw a lot of information at you at one time and I need you to just breathe through instead of responding until I’m done, alright?”
“Well I wasn’t scared but now I am.” I said trying to lift this serious vibe this room was in. With no such luck, she took my hands in hers and took a deep breath.
“My whole younger life is a lie...”she started and immediately piqued my interest.
After listening to her talk for over an hour explaining everything: her dad wasn’t her dad, uncle Drew is her dad, she has the ability to become this all powerful alpha, her dreams have turned to visions. Oh, and the witch Faith is her aunt she never knew she had who also has magical powers and is going to train her to fight some great evil. Just when I thought she was done, she looked me dead in my eyes and spoke,
“One more thing...”
Aurora’s POV
“I want to surrender my alpha position to Drew’s pack and ask you and him to combine the packs.”
Drew’s POV
I am starting to get things in order for my trip to Mount Fern, since I will be extending my trip with no idea of how long I’ll be gone I am promoting my beta, Jacob, to be interim alpha until I return. It’s something not a lot of alphas have done in our history, but with Faith sending me dreams of Aurora and knowing that she will need my help is reason enough for me to put things here in someone else’s trusted hands.
“I just don’t understand why you are insisting you’ll be gone a while. You’re only ever there for two weeks at a time and now suddenly you don’t know when you’ll be back. I need to know what’s going on, Drew.” Jake had been pestering me about this since I told him I would more than likely be extending my trip.
“If I tell you this it has to stay inside of these office walls, no one knows this. Not even Helena.”
“Woah, okay now I don’t think I want to know. I know you and Helena aren’t close but you don’t typically keep secrets from each other, mate bond and all.”
“You know we never completed the bond by actually mating so it’s weaker than it would be if we had. It’s a little easier to keep secrets when we can only feel so much of each other being just marked in comparison to being marked and mated.”
“Okay, well spill.”
“The adopted girl, Alpha Dom’s daughter,”
“Yeah, Rory I think they call her.”
“She’s my daughter. Mine and my true mates. She and I mated when we first met but my father disapproved of her so I didn’t mark her, I didn’t know a pup came from it until I felt her death. The rumors spoke of a four year old girl, when I went there after Jenna’s death I knew she was mine.”
Jake’s jaw was literally sitting on the floor. I kept looking at him to urge him to speak but he just kept looking around the room as if this was a puzzle he was piecing together in his mind.
“So, wait. If that’s the case, she was young enough you could have petitioned the Elders for custody of her. Why didn’t you?”
“She was finally adapting to life without her mother. I didn’t want to rip her from the only place that had ever been her home as she was working through the loss. I couldn’t do that to her.”
“That’s why you visit so often, man I should have known. D*mn I lost the bet.”
“What bet?”
He looked at me in pure terror realizing the last part he had said aloud.
“Josh and I had a bet on why you were always going there. I thought it was because you found another true mate but couldn’t reject Helena, Josh thought it was just an escape from her. Guess we were both wrong.”
I wanted to be mad that my beta and gamma had a bet going but knowing them as well as I do, honestly I just thought it to be hilarious.
“So what’s different this time?”
Realizing I had never actually laughed out loud I brought myself back to our conversation.
“Well she’s becoming Luna, Jett will become alpha and I think she might be in trouble. I keep having these dreams that I think Faith is sending me.”
“Faith? The werewitch you have do spells for you sometimes?” I catch myself smiling at just the thought of her.
“Yes, she was my true mates sister. She and I also mated at one point after Jenna passed connecting us so she has the ability to send me messages in dreams. And the one she’s been sending, it means Rory is in trouble. Or she will be. So I need to go talk to her, tell her of my history with her mother and protect her from whatever is coming.”
“Well Drew, your dull life just got a lot more interesting. Are you ever going to tell Helena?”
“Honestly, I won’t have much of a choice with what I’m going to have to do.”
“What do you mean?” I looked at him with a nervous expression. I knew he wasn’t going to handle this well. I took a deep breath in and spoke as I let it out,
“Because I’m going to ask Rory to be alpha of this pack when it’s time to step down,” I pause for a moment trying to read his face, unfortunately it’s currently looking puzzled so I continue “which will mean she has options again. Helena can reject me to be with her true mate now or she can continue on as senior luna. I owe her that choice.” Suddenly his puzzled expression is pieced together, shock and anger are consuming his face. Here we go.
“She knows nothing about our pack, or being an alpha! Just because she was raised as an alpha daughter means squat! With Jett in the picture and her not being biologically Dom’s she had no chance of ever being alpha and now she’s going to be their luna, how the hell is she going to be both? We can’t be two places at once.” He is yelling at me, which I must quickly address and put him in his place.
“SILENCE!” I roared at him in my alpha tone causing him to wince and fall to his knee in submission,
“Rory will be alpha if she wants to be and if she does she will be alpha however she chooses. You and I do not get to make that decision for her. If she becomes alpha she can combine the packs, leave them separate, I honestly don’t care as long as she and this pack are safe and happy. Do you understand me Beta?”
“Yes Alpha.” He said in never looking up from the floor.
“I love you Jacob, you’re practically my brother but this is one that you don’t get an opinion on.”
“I understand Alpha, as long as the well-being of this pack is put first I am in full support of whatever you want to do. I apologize for over stepping.”
“It’s fine. Now, let’s get back to this paperwork. I want to get everything covered for at least a year so that if I am gone that long you know exactly what to do.” He rises slowly and makes his way to the chair in front of my desk, going through the papers in front of him.
I know there is a lot of uncertainty with telling Rory everything and asking her to be alpha. Without the training that Jett has gotten his whole life she will be next to clueless on what to do but that’s even if she wants it. If she doesn’t I have a bigger question to ask, what happens to my pack? I know that my leadership won’t challenge one another for my position and without an alpha Chesapeake will just dissolve. I can’t let that happen, so I need to get to Mount Fern and speak with Rory. Hopefully, she won’t hate me for this secret I’ve been keeping.
