Chapter 1: Eli's Birthday Wish
“...and that's it for today! Good luck for tomorrow's event. We got this, team!”
Loud cheers resonated the whole room, happiness and excitement evident to everyone's faces.
No one could be much happier than their team leader. A big smile was plastered on her face, indicating that she was very much happy with what is happening to them.
Elisiana Tan, known as Eli, the team leader of the Marketing department of Paradise Incorporated, was tasked to be the head of the upcoming welcoming party for the new investors in their company. After a year of being a lowkey employee in the company, here she goes, setting a new record to herself.
She is just an average girl—brown way hair, 5working as a regular employee in Paradise, Inc. for almost 3 years. Though, her life's still the same. Still having the same average salary and position in the company. But this year, she knew, it was different. This will be her greatest break to finally get ahold of her dreams.
She will make sure of that.
“Baby, I'm so proud of you! My little bunny grew up so fast~” Her friend, Diana, a sexy blondie, who is also a part of the Marketing department, fake cried as she ran to her and hugged her petite bestfriend, ending up squishing her.
“Stop—Let go of me, I can't breathe!” Eli complained while smacking Diana's back. The latter immediately obeyed, still wiping her non existent tears.
“I'm just so proud of you! You know the drill.” Diana wiggled her eyebrows, teasing Eli as she bumps her shoulders.
Eli rolls her eyes at ther friend's statement.
“I'm not in the mood to go clubbing. Shut up.”
"What?! Come on! Live your life to the fullest! It's your freaking birthday, let's go drink and find hot boys—"
Eli quickly puts her hand on her friend's mouth. Looking around her, she sighed in relief when she saw no one around.
She can't let anyone know it's her birthday today.
"No." Eli firmly rejects her friend, letting go of her and proceeds to place her stuff inside her bag, preparing to leave the meeting room.
"Ugh! You're such a kill joy." Diana huffs in frustration.
"You know, I don't wanna get wasted today. We have a big event tomorrow, are you out of your mind?" Eli says, walking out of the room with Diana following her immediately.
"Okay, fine! You won. But!—you have to go with me in the after party tomorrow. Got it?"
Eli rolled her eyes once again. "Do I have a choice?"
To be honest, she doesn't like celebrating her birthday with other people, even them having to know that it's his birthday. reason? She just don't want to. She prefers celebrating it with her super close friends. Plus, she can't spend a lot of bucks to treat her co-workers. She still has a lot of expenses to pay for.
"That's my girl! Let's go to your house already, quick!"
'She looks way more excited than the birthday girl herself,' Eli thought and smiles before following her ever-so-jolly friend.
Later on...
“Let's make a clink clank for Eli, our best girlie! Happy beer-day to you!”
Four people lifted their canned beers and made a toast for their lovely friend's birthday. They are currently at the rooftop of their Eli's apartment, drinking the night away. The only guest she has were of course Diana, Trevor—the only guy friend they have, and her sister, Evana.
Every celebration that Eli has, including her birthday, they only celebrate in her apartment, having ridiculous talks about random things and drinking beer. She doesn't like crowded and noise-blaring places. Of course, save, save, save.
“I heard your team leveled up, huh. congrats!” Trevor, the only guy in the group, said and ruffled Eli's hair as a sign of being happy for her. Eli smacked his hand and quickly fixed her hair. The guy only laughed at her as she creases her eyebrow in annoyance.
“How do you feel about that, Ms. Tan? You're now one step ahead of your dreams. Is it time to also level up with your love life?” Diana asked, pretending that she's doing an interview to her. She even used the empty beer can as a microphone.
Eli just rolled her eyes and went on with the flow and answered his question like she had won the Miss Universe.
“Thank you for that wonderful question,” she accepted the improvised microphone from off and dramatically stood up on his chair. The two seemed to enjoy the moment while Evana just rolled her eyes and took a sip from her beer. “I'm really honored to be chosen as the Marketing department's leader. You don't know how much I'm happy. Thank you for this wonderful gift, everyone. May you all— aww, Eve!”
The overly dramatic speech was interrupted when Evana threw a crumpled tissue on his face.
“You're ruining the fun, honey! It's her birthday” Diana complained.
“So? Should I ruin you, instead?”
Diana gasped dramatically with what she heard, "How dare you tell me that you little brat!"
Instead of riding on her tactics, Diana picked up a crumpled tissue paper on the floow and threw it on his Evana's face. An act caused by drinking too much alcohol.
Everyone was shocked with what she did but they eventually laughed their asses of because of how ridiculous it was. Evana was obviously fuming with anger, her whole face painted in rage.
"What did you just do?! Ugly monkey!"
And the war between the two began. Eli and Trevor just laughed with their bickerings.
“Oh my goodness. That's so hilarious” Trevor was still wiping his tears and calming herself from laughing. Even Eli, she almost threw up because of laughing too much.
“Can we just bring the cake out? I'm already hungry.” Evana demanded. They almost forgot about the birthday girl's cake.
“Okay, let's light up the candle!” Trevor volunteered to fix and place the cake on the table. They even made Eli wear a kid's party hat to add in to the fun.
Once the candle was lit up, they started singing and cheering for him.
“Happy birthday, bunny!”
"Happy 25th, sis!"
"Happy, happy birthday!"
Eli had a big smile on his face while they cheer for her as she prepares to blow her candle. She clasped her hands and closed her eyes.
1..
"Blow your candle, Eli!"
2..
"Make a wish!"
3..
Wait. What do I wish?
I don't know what to wish.
Should I wish for a car? Or a luxury bag? A house and lot? Cash?
I wish for...
... a lover?
Wait. What are you even thinking, Eli? You don't need one-
"JUST BLOW THE FREAKING CANDLE!"
Because of Evana's sudden outburst, Eli was startled and accidentally did the thing she shouldn't have done yet.
She just blew the candle.
“At last, she blew it already. I thought it would take decades just to blow a candle. ”
“Bestie, chill. Happy bornday, to my one and only bestfriend! ”
“Wooh! Happy birthday, Eli!”
Her eyes widened in realization.
SHE JUST WISHED FOR A LOVER JUST THE TIME SHE BLEW THE CANDLE.
What the heck?!
It wouldn't come true, right? Wishes ain't true.
Eli gulped out of nervousness.
I hope.
She shook her head and shrugged the feeling off.
“Ugh! We ran out of beer,” Trevor said when he noticed that the beers they bought earlier were already empty. Eli noticed too so she volunteered to join him in buying another set of beer.
They went to the nearest convenience store and grabbed what they needed. Once they're done paying, they went out of the store.
They were about to go back but Trevor suddenly halted and hit his forehead.
“Oh! I forgot to buy chips. Wait for me here” he ran back inside the convenience store before Eli could respond. As an obedient girl, she waited for her outside. She scrolled through her phone for the mean time to entertain herself.
After a few minutes, she heard footsteps in front of her so she hid her phone inside her pocket and faced the person, knowing that it's Trevor.
“What chips did y—”
“Don't get mad, please. I just need to do this”
Eli was taken aback when he saw a guy in a black hoodie in front of him instead of his friend. The guy held her shoulders and went close to her.
“W-what are yo—”
She froze.
A stranger just kissed her in front of a convenience store... on her freakin' birthday.
