Jacob

I am Alpha Jacob Miller, Alpha of Laverne, and Caldwell Hill. I've been Alpha of this pack, Blue Howler, for fourteen years now. My father retired when I turned twenty-six. He wanted me to find my mate before taking over. He finally realized that my mate was not around. I traveled all over the country to different packs and attended lots of Alpha parties trying to find my fated mate. At twenty-nine, I decided to accept a chosen mate. That lasted two years. Zena found her fated mate while visiting a neighboring pack. We never marked each other, so we were not as heartbroken at rejecting each other. We bonded as friends and had each other for pleasure. Since Zena, I've had some hookups but nothing permanent. That all changed last night. "Counselor Margaret niece finally moved in. I ran into Zach this morning while getting Charlotte donuts." Nate, my Beta informed me. Charlotte is his mate. They have been my friends since we were pups. On our eighteen birthday, they discovered the two of them were fated. We kind of hoped for that because the two had a crush on each other since they were sixteen. Now they have four pups and one more on the way. It's nice seeing the two of them grow and love on each other. The thing I want. Someone to love and care for. "What do you know about her? Is she a shifter?" I asked. "Zach didn't say if she was a supernatural. But he did say she is a divorced mother of three." "Okay, let's sniff around during our run tonight." I said. We finished helping Kristen stock the store. It's one of the many businesses we had in our pack. We had one large school building for grades K through twelve. We had farming, a construction company, and a real estate company. We had funds generated throughout our community. A lot of the moms had online jobs if they wanted. Margaret was an elder in the pack and one of the members on the council. She owned a huge estate outside of town and allowed a few of the members to put cabins close to her property and a few on it. These are different shifters other than wolf. A bunch of shifters that didn't want to be rouge and were elders. They needed a place to call home and to be protected. Margaret allowed them to seek refuge on Caldwell Hill. I'm the protector, and they are a part of my wolf pack. Margaret was a very loving woman. We all loved her back. She only ever mentioned her half-sister and a niece. She talked about them a lot when we would come and help her around her estate. Margaret was a mystery, though we would see puffs of pink, blue or even black smoke come from her house and one maid that was fired claim to have seen a cauldron and a large spell book left out once. And that creature that lingered around. We didn't know if it was a cat or bird or what. It was strange, and I only saw it twice perched on her porch one night. Its eyes glowed red, and its skin looked like tough worn leather. It is a bit creepy. Despite all of that, Margaret was wonderful. She was fair to us all, and we all hate that she wasn't around. I was a bit shocked to learn that her niece was moving into the home. No one has ever met her before, even at the funeral. A few claim to had spotted her but said she left as fast as she came. Since I'm Alpha here in Leverne, including the small number of shifters on Caldwell Hill, it's my duty to see who is around our pack. It's my job to eliminate any danger that is around my members. We may have loved Margaret, but we knew nothing about her family. Nate and I will see you later. Later, after checking on other pack matters, it was time. Nate and I shift into our wolves. My wolf Kane and his wolf Rush. We packed clothing and carried it with us. Once on the property, we remained in the shadows. I couldn't pick up any strange scents. So, I decided to get closer to the van parked in the driveway. I sniffed around, and once on the driver's side, the most delicious scent hit my nose. Honey and citrus. Mate Kane growled. I regained control over Kane quickly. Once back in the shadows, I dressed quickly. Nate is doing the same. "What is it, Alpha?" Nate looked at me confused. "My mate scent is all over the van." "Holy shit.. Are you sure?" "Definitely, Kane was about to lose it." "What are you going to do?" I stood still before I eventually turned to the door. I knocked shortly after the door opened, and there she was. The most breathtaking woman I'd ever seen. Her golden blonde hair was pulled up into a messy bun. Big alert brown eyes, her cute little nose and full beautiful lips. Maybe she is 5'5 "or so with a shapely figure. She looked ravishing dressed in only a pink tank and little blue shorts that showed off her nice legs. I was so wrapped in my mate, and she was apparently feeling something too. After a poke in the back from Nate, I was able to hold a semi conversation. I was able to see two blonde teens behind her and a mini brunette version of my mate holding on to her leg. I remember Nate saying she was divorced and had kids. After meeting my mate, I managed to pull myself away from her house with the help of Nate. Her arousal drove me crazy. My wolf wanted her. After two cold showers and the help of my hand, I was able to get a quick release. I went to sleep and woke up early. It's harder than when I was the night before. After getting myself unworked up, I went into town and helped Kristen open her store. She lost her mate last year, and we all pitched in to help when we could. She was running a few minutes late this morning and needed someone to open the store. Kristen arrived shortly after I opened, and the first customer came in. I left for breakfast across the street at Neal's bakery. He had the best donuts and muffins. I picked up two donuts and a blueberry muffin. I turned to leave, and that's when I spotted my mate and her mini. She was holding her daughter's hand, walking from the book store up the strip to Kristen's store. I turned and ordered a coffee and a fruit punch smoothie. Once I got the order, I left and stood by the bookstore door. Waiting for her to walk back down. She had a few bags in her hand. She smiled at me, and my heartbeat grew faster. "Good morning, you two." I greeted the two of them. Her mini smiled. "Good morning." Melissa said, letting her daughter hand go so she could open the door. "I brought donuts and coffee." "Yay donuts. I don't like coffee, though." I chuckled. "You, my darling, have a fruit punch smoothie. I hope you like it." "Yes, I love smoothies." My mate cleaned a table off with her cleaning supplies she purchased. "Thanks a lot. I'm so used to skipping breakfast. I forgot to pack Ariel anything. She usually eats at daycare since we had to leave home so early." "I didn't mind." I helped Ariel, now I know her name, onto the high stool. I spread out a napkin. "Blueberry muffin or donut?" I asked. "Donut, please." She grinned, her eyes shining as I placed the donut down. Then I placed her smoothie beside her donut. "What do you say, Ariel?" "Thank you, Mr." I smiled. " It's Jacob and my pleasure, darling." I said, then spread a napkin in front of my mate. I placed the donut and muffin in front of her and sat her cup of coffee beside it. "I'll take the muffin only. The blue berry is calling me." She pushed the donut to me. "Thanks, Jacob, for breakfast." My mate Melissa said. I smiled at her, saying my name. "You're very welcome, Melissa." I ate the donut in three bites and sipped on my coffee. Mine is decaffeinated. My werewolf senses didn't need any caffeine added to my system. "So, are you planning on opening the bookstore back up?" "I'm thinking about it. Since I'm not working now, this could be something to occupy my time and extra income. I was just going to clean it up a bit first." "Everyone loved coming here when your aunt had it opened." I added, taking another sip of coffee. I handed Ariel a napkin her mouth was full of crumbs. I wiped her cup off as well. there were even more crumbs on it. I smiled at how happy this little girl was with her donut. I looked over at Melissa, and she had a shocked expression on her face. I frowned. I'm trying not to panic, wondering if I did something wrong. "What happened? Did I overstep? I know I'm a stranger to you both." I moved away from Ariel. Melissa shook her head before speaking. "No, no, I'm sorry. You're fine, thanks for helping her." "Are you sure I truly do understand if you want me to step away. You don't know me, you guys are new in town its.." Melissa touched my arm, causing sparks to erupt. She moved her hand back. "It's OK. I'm sorry to make things awkward. I will explain some other time." Melissa said, and I detected a hint of sadness. "How was that donut baby?" "Delicis, mom, thank you, Mr. Jacob. Can we have donuts and smoothies again tomorrow." "Only if it's okay with your mom." I smiled. "We'll have to wait and see. Now it's time to get to work." Melissa stood.
